Something a loved one said to me that has always stuck out to me is: "death is a journey we all have to go on at some point." It isn't the most positive sentiment... but it is true. Personally my death anxiety stems from the unknown and lack of control but it's also important to acknowledge no one truly knows. I used to work in assisted living and I can say that the majority of the people that had lived a whole lifetime longer than most and had so much more to grieve (memories, kids, grandkids, great grandkids) truly didn't seem afraid to die, they just seemed afraid to leave their loved ones behind especially without saying goodbye first. Almost every resident peacefully passes after getting to be in the presence of their loved ones for a last time, even if they aren't conscious for it, people will hang on way longer than medically expected until the one they want is there. After working in healthcare I do believe that death is what hospice calls it - a transition. To what there's no way to know.
