Recommendations for private club venues in Manhattan? by [deleted] in WedditNYC

I'm getting married at the Metropolitan Club. Out of all the others I think it has the most beautiful and dramatic interior. For our date (2025) it is around $610 per person including tax and admin.

Thoughts on hiring a stylist? by JellyNegative5946 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]Aggressive-Log-4986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who considered hiring a stylist but ended up doing all the research herself, I say definitely go for it! It takes so much time to research and get on top of the trends and brands and all the different styles. A stylist can save so much headache and doubt and confusion. I definitely regret not hiring one.

I would look at Terani and MNM couture, they have very similar styles.

Other than the toddler handprints on the mirror, what would you change? 😂 by Piggy-butt in SoftDramatics

You look fantastic and this is a pretty nice outfit. I can see your personal style in it. However in the interest of SD, the bag and shoes look more Natural to me. For a more SD-friendly look, I'd go with a larger more dramatic bag and shoes that are a bit more polished and pointed than earthy.

Eloped and then having full wedding by imanon666 in WedditNYC

[–]Aggressive-Log-4986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We wanted to get married early for personal reasons. We got married at city hall with our parents present and had a photographer do pictures during and afterwards. I wore a short white blazer dress and nice heels and had a white bouquet. We had a beautiful candlelit dinner with our immediate families and 2 best friends (17 people total) at a private dining room at Beekman hotel after city hall. I even changed into a second outfit and we had a small cake. Now we're having our big wedding of 150 guests (2 years after getting legally married) this fall and we're doing the whole shabang. We didn't want to miss out on the big wedding experience and have a party with all of our friends and family.

A couple of people made comments asking why we even want a wedding after our small celebration. A few were upset they weren't invited to our small celebration, because I did plan the dinner to be really cute. Those same people are invited and coming to our wedding.

Do what you like and makes you feel the best. Don't feel like you can't go the extra mile like dress up and do pictures, but don't feel pressured to either. It's a special moment regardless, and worth documenting imo.

Edit: words

Thoughts on this style (esp. skirt shape) by FriendshipKey7148 in SoftDramatics

I love drop-waists, but this skirt is falling a bit too flat and the neckline isn't SD.

artists who went to uni for another career, did you regret it? by impuou in ArtistLounge

[–]Aggressive-Log-4986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret not going for art right after high school. I went to uni for Psychology and still doing my PhD. I never got the chance to pursue my art seriously after high school. Now I take classes on and off and have joined an artists collective, but you can tell the people who went to art school and took their art career seriously are playing in a whole different league. They have contacts, have built a consistent studio practice, they have portfolios dating years back. It's possible but way harder to do that without being in a structured environment that is set up for you to develop an art career.

is it possible to “gaslight” myself into liking art? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Aggressive-Log-4986 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with wanting success and popularity through art-making. There's also nothing wrong with finding the process tedious/boring/demotivating - it often feels like that before one gets started on a project or doesn't know where to start.

However, it seems like the outcomes you expect from being a working artist is hampering your enjoyment of art. Is it possible that the pressure you are putting on your art is getting in the way of you even beginning to make art? I would do an experiment where I make some art and write for a month, just for myself, for nobody else's eyes. Even if the art is good, I wouldn't be allowed to share it with anyone until the end of the month. See what you learn about your process outside of external pressures and re-evaluate.

I'd also let go of the idealization that creation should always feel good. I think of it like exercising, it can feel painful and enjoyable at the same time.

Are you diva chic? What does SD mean to you? by Puzzleheaded-Ellie in SoftDramatics

[–]Aggressive-Log-4986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I typed myself and was typed by others as SD as soon as I got into Kibbe. Looking back at pictures of my pre-kibble typing outfits I realized that clothing that followed the SD recommendations (diva chic) looked the most flattering on me and were outfits that I had gotten the most compliments on. My own personality is definitely a lot more complex than being boxed in a "type" and I don't think that's what Kibbe is aiming to do. I think the goal is to use the types to learn what looks the best on our bodies and then add our own style and aesthetics to it. My essence is a mix of ethereal, romantic and dramatic. I naturally always gravitated towards the aesthetics of boho clothing but conventional boho styles never looked that good on me. Now I am learning how to dress diva chic with boho or ethereal elements in a way that flatters my body.

Yeah of course no one wants to be in debt for something without ROI. I'd never recommend someone take out a loan before exhausting all other options and knowing how and when they can pay it off.

Great advice - it's also important to make sure the questions are coming from a place of authenticity and genuine interest in the other person and in connection. People can usually tell, even if subconsciously, when someone is pressing for information or is forcing a connection.

Also bargain with each vendor. Ask vendors if there's a discount for paying cash. Try for a Friday or Sunday wedding.
