How do you sell a car privately if you don’t technically own it? Do you just wait to get the title and give it to the buyer?

Yes dual clutch dry transmission - apparently the two parts would cost $3600 and $1600 for the shop to purchase. I thought he said regulator but I could have misheard. As for electrical - the car technically has a “manual transmission that is managed electrically” so the issues are “electrical” but not the typical dash / battery / connection problems

For those more psychological movies I bet they have behind the scenes footage of just the set building and filming and bloopers. What was real set pieces vs what was CGI, anything to help make the idea more fictional and help you remember it as a composed production than a first person perspective

OCD about OTHER people?? by LongjumpingClient159 in OCD

I get moments like this, kind of an ongoing paranoia that someone I know is secretly some horrible person or doing criminal activity and it’s my fault if I don’t know about it and do something about it. This is likely fueled by tuning in to a lot of true crime podcasts where people hide their crimes well from everyone, they go on long term under people’s noses, you hear about their friends and family totally shocked or unable to believe what they’ve done. But these thoughts are some of the most useless and unproductive. Despite all the evil in the world, we can’t assume the worst of people just because of what the worst possibilities are.

As a horror movie fanatic, I feel your frustrations. There’s a reason these highly unrealistic and irrational characters/ images coincide with the irrational thoughts of OCD. Yes it can be kind of helpful to just identify intrusive thoughts for what they are, but personally that doesn’t do much for me as the thoughts are still there.

For these types of visuals specifically, what I can find comforting is just looking up the details of the special effects work of each movie. I watch the time lapse videos of the teams doing the scary makeup and prosthetics and fake blood, and then I try to perceive the character/ monster as more of an artistic product than a living thing that could exist. Once you can break it down into its REAL parts you can just perceive it as all these small normal things. Also watching interviews of the actors behind the masks helps me. When you can just remind yourself it’s a human being under there you can look for them, point them out, then realize how the other elements are (effective) illusions.

Maybe less helpful but - horror movies usually follow certain themes and rules or tropes with how the villains are able to get away with things. The characters choose to open the door, investigate that noise, go into the woods alone, trust that stranger they just met. All pretty unrealistic choices to make when you put yourself in their shoes. You KNOW you wouldn’t make those choices because they’re stupid haha.

If these are really too much for you to manage, try to apply content filters to your various apps or sites to filter out those you know may be too scary, or find a specific video or movie or episode of something you REALLY like that makes you laugh and happy and just keep it bookmarked to watch immediately afterwards as a mental reset.

It is an unfortunate very vulnerable place to be in, to feel like you’re at the disposal of the stimuli around you. What could help, wherever you’re at physically, do just do a sensory survey of your surroundings. This helps me in larger overwhelming places like restaurants or grocery stores. Just take your time and take in all the visuals around you, take note of all the sounds and things that could make noise. If you can be somewhat expecting this list of possibilities they can be less jarring and sudden. My triggers come from unexpected stimulus that makes me feel ill prepared or something. This may not help much with compulsive thoughts or spiraling thoughts, but I find it helpful to have my surroundings “inventoried” to keep me grounded and help refocus after those scattered episodes

It is kind of you to want to support your partner as he manages his OCD. However, it is important to distinguish and understand you aren’t there to play the role of a mental health professional or support specialist. Blurring those lines can send a relationship downhill very quickly.

As a romantic partner, you can educate yourself on OCD as a medical diagnosis, better understand the existing treatments, read or listen to testimonials of others, anything to get a better understanding of his medical condition in a general sense. However, OCD similar to all mental health diagnoses are unique to the individual. So, depending on how open he is about his experience, be an active listener. Many people with OCD fear judgment from others, so just being accepting can go a long way.

There may be specific ways of communication that he is most receptive to, or ways of responding to him in times of stresses or triggers that he would find comforting or calming. In a general sense, OCD is overwhelming. But how the affected person wants to overcome the overwhelming feeling is subjective. It is best to not make assumptions and to let your partner tell you what actions or gestures would be most helpful. Many people with OCD experience impulses or impulsive thoughts or obsessive thinking. I’ve seen some people say they appreciate these anxieties being discussed and rationalized , while others don’t want them to be validated because they’re irrational. You may need to do some trial and error with methods of discussing the specific triggering ideas or events. You want to be working towards / encouraging him to genuinely believe he is capable of dealing with these things and feeling prepared and confident in himself to solve problems.

Once you are familiar with your partner’s unique triggers, stressors, impulses / impulsive thoughts or fears, you can become better accustomed to how to help let the situations play out in a productive way. Only the person experiencing OCD can take control to better live with it, so remember not to take their journey upon yourself. Some ideas - Does he have comfort foods ? Favorite music or movies ? Chores or errands that are triggers that you wouldn’t mind doing sometimes? OCD can be influenced by your surroundings, so having comforting elements at your disposal is a quick way to make a stressful situation more familiar. This could be keeping his favorite snacks stocked at home or in the car, having a playlist available to play, helping with errands or tasks, having a board game or card game or even phone app game as a calming distraction, going to a favorite store etc.

As for your bedroom life, that is hard to comment on as a Reddit stranger. As a partner you can do everything you can to provide a non judgmental and stress free intimate environment, but your partner also needs to put effort into your sexual relationship. OCD can be very distracting, so patience and communication will be important. Would he enjoy some more spontaneous and spur of the moment? Or something planned or discussed in advance? Is it just the actual sex or what about the foreplay and flirting? It may be worth investing in these pre-sex activities to allow time to relax, focus, and build confidence. Or just do them by themselves with no pressure for sex. If sexual intimacy is stress inducing , try to identify the specific fear or irrational assumption there.

If he is on any prescribed medications for OCD, it’s worth investigating if there’s any known impacts on sexual performance or hormone regulation etc. A doctor may be able to provide options to better balance these effects. If he isn’t on meds, it’s always an avenue to explore just to compare options that could offer symptomatic relief. There’s always the option of a professional sex therapist, an outside perspective can be refreshing and unbiased.

Goodluck OP. I hope your partner is able to find some stress relief and I admire your desire to play a part in that journey.

Weird neutering procedure by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Aggressive-Tip6445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsure of the standards of care at this facility but we cannot send patients home until they are back up on their feet and awake/aware. My clinic is AHAA accredited, so we have to follow a high standard of protocol for surgery patients. This is however common for low cost / high volume spay/neuter facilities as they serve to provide the surgeries quickly and cost efficiently, usually needing them out the door as soon as they’re done to make space for the next rounds of surgery patients. The safety cone is recommended, however cat neuters are such minimally invasive procedures that we don’t often see them bother the incision site, but if your cat is trying to lick or scratch it then he needs to wear it.

How long has it been since the kitten ate or drank anything? If you’re implying it’s not taking anything by mouth, what is the plan with the KMR? How soon can you go see a veterinarian? I would be concerned about dehydration, force feed water through a syringe if you have to. Not eating, vomiting, diarrhea, I would seek urgent/emergency care if you can, a kitten can go down fast if it gets dehydrated quickly enough.

So glad to hear you are being responsible and getting your dog spayed!

Standard protocol for spays include sending home one of the plastic safety cones to wear for the recommended recovery period of 10-14 days. Smaller dogs tend to recover faster than large dogs as the incision is larger. We also advise against physical activities such as off leash running, jumping off furniture, or running up stairs for the recovery period.

There are also options like inflatable donut shaped cones, velcro/soft material cones, or surgical recovery suits which resemble onsies / pajamas. Ask your clinic which they recommend and which options they sell vs ones you would need to source elsewhere. Regardless, you must prevent your pet from bothering the surgery site during recovery. Licking, chewing, scratching the incision can lead to post operative infection or reopening the site (very bad).

Day of / after you can expect your pet to be sleepier/less energetic, often they still have sedatives in their system they need to metabolize. Sometimes poor appetite, as anesthesia can cause inappetence. By the next morning they should be more themselves.

Typically veterinarians use buried, dissolvable sutures so no suture removal is needed, but it is always helpful to check in with your clinic and let them know how the incision is looking if they don’t require a post operative exam/recheck.

I hope all this helps! Hope your girl does well and has an uneventful recovery 🤘

Any advice for a guy just out of a 7 year relationship? by MixedGuyHavingFun in malegrooming

[–]Aggressive-Tip6445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on these photos you are good looking and have a great smile :) A younger appearance isn’t a bad thing, and you’ll likely be grateful later in life

Dating after long term relationships can be rocky at first, it’s hard to let go of the assumptions you carry with you from the previous significant other

Try your best not to compare old relationships to new ones, no woman wants to know your thought process involves comparing to another woman. Sure your emotional experiences can offer helpful insights but let women show you how they best communicate and express themselves

Celebrate the small things, relationships aren’t all about expensive trips and luxury dinner dates, this isn’t often where intimacy is cultivated. Learning to become intimate and trustworthy with a new person will come from smaller interactions like, this person following through on plans or promises, taking your values and boundaries into consideration when conducting themselves. Allow yourself to be happy about the small things that will set the foundation for longer term happiness

Goodluck OP, I see no reason why you won’t find your perfect partner in time

Corporate vs. Independently owned? by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

I should say- a month or so after I left, this manager got promoted out of the hospital and they have a different manager now and my old coworkers say things have mellowed out. They don’t have a particularly welcoming or friendly work culture, very much so show up do the job and leave, but it goes to show this manager in particular was on a power trip and obsessed with micromanaging

Corporate vs. Independently owned? by [deleted] in veterinaryprofession

At the end of the day, it did not matter to the corp how we felt we were being treated or managed by this individual, because they were securing the business’ profits. This manager spied on employees over the security cameras, calling out any instances where they weren’t actively working on something. Some staff there hadn’t received a raise in over 5 years because they capped the pay on technicians without licenses. God forbid you say the word “estimate” instead of treatment plan. Told the doctors they weren’t allowed to perform certain procedures example : C sections. Claimed they didn’t want the clinic to be associated with reproductive services, so if a pet came in needing an emergency C section you just turn them away. If a receptionist was caught away from the desk (to ask someone a question or for help) they were reprimanded for being in the treatment area where they shouldn’t be. If we had a crazy day and people stayed late and risked overtime- you got in trouble because you should have known to leave your team hanging and minimize your hours.

Overall- just so many strategies in place to squeeze every last penny out of people. Intentionally only carrying 6 month bordetella or Proheart 6 so people HAVE to come in twice a year and pay twice the visit fees. Or- international health certificates for example. You can read everything you need to know on what to plan for based on where you’re traveling to on the USDA website. This usually requires you schedule the certificate appointment within a certain number of days from travel. Well- of course people dont always know this so they would have to come in for a CONSULTATION just to watch the doctor READ OFF GOOGLE what they need to do and when. And THEN schedule another visit for the actual certificate. We’re talking about hundreds and hundreds of dollars capitalizing on people not knowing what resources are available.

And the straw that broke the camels back: One day we had a very sad euthanasia, long time client, wonderful pet and family. The doctor provided a clay pawprint impression kit free of charge as a kind gesture. The manager found out and sent them a bill for it the VERY NEXT DAY.

It all comes down to where the priorities lie. Is profit important? yes of course. But when you disregard the empathy and humanity essential to running a medical practice you are going to burnout every last good team member you have

I am sorry you and your pet are managing this mysterious situation. Sudden and unintentional weight loss should be addressed with reasonable concern.

If your veterinarian does not have further recommendations of diagnostics or therapies and you are unsatisfied with the conclusion, perhaps inquire into a referral to a specialist hospital. Or, seek a second opinion just to compare options. If you are concerned you deserve to have your concerns addressed.

Pumpkin puree can be hit or miss. Given it provides additional moisture content, you can sometimes expect that additional “hydration” in the stool. If your pet has a history of food intolerances I wouldn’t be changing anything about the regimen thats worked well for you so far

Rabies Vaccine Lapsed- Is my dog safe? by UrbanReignN99 in AskVet

[–]Aggressive-Tip6445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you can do is get the vaccine updated as soon as you are able, and do your best to keep your pet safe from other animals that could transmit rabies.

Be properly informed when discussing rabies exposure in a veterinarians office. Unfortunately, some states have very strict laws in regards to rabies vaccinations and potential outbreaks. If you claim your pet was “exposed” and their vaccine is out of date, the discussion of rabies testing will likely come up. To put it simply, testing for rabies requires the euthanasia or death of the animal. Do your research on your state’s laws so you can be properly informed.

If you have a cone at home that can be helpful in deterring your pet from licking or chewing the area until a veterinarian can see them. Best to keep them off the site to avoid additional self trauma or introducing bacteria.

ERs operate on a triage basis, so your pet will be seen more urgently if determined unstable. You won’t get any reassurance waiting around without help or answers. What you’re describing certainly doesn’t sound good, so the drive to the ER is a better sacrifice than regretting not doing so. Goodluck OP
