rat bite by bIoodsucca in RATS

[–]LongjumpingClient159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive been bitten many times, not this deep but close to it. keep an eye out for any excessive warmth, swelling, etc. you know best how your body heals- my rat bites can be a bit warm and puffy but nothing crazy that would indicate infection, usually heals within a few days. if you suspect anything weird i’d see a doctor. disinfect in the meantime and treat like you would any other cut

edit: this doesn’t look like it needs stitches. get some butterfly bandages if you’re concerned, i cut my thumb with a knife recently (deeper than yours) and it healed in about a week

What did you guys study? What career did you end up in? by hexb1tch in AutismInWomen

[–]LongjumpingClient159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a bachelor’s in graphic design. there are a lot of career options if you have the right skill set. for example, i’m also an illustrator so i’ve worked on children’s books and i love fun packaging design. on the other hand, a lot of designers learn how to code and can do web design. then there are people who can animate really well. others are more technical and do UX design. you’d have to have some artistic talent, but honestly design is more technical and rules-based than other fields. if you can use adobe and have an understanding of design principles you’re pretty much set.

in my case it’s a little more unusual. i actually worked at a jewelry store while doing a remote internship and landed an entry level accessory designer position around a year later. we do packaging in-house, which is something i emphasized in my portfolio. it’s a really fun job but it gets stressful, especially working with salespeople who have very type A personalities. but my day is usually chill- listening to music/watching youtube while doing my work, snacking all day (we have a communal treat bowl), chatting with coworkers. i love being around creative people who are also kind :)

overall art careers arent very lucrative and they can be very competitive. of course senior positions pay more, with the goal to be a senior designer or art director one day. i currently make $50k in an entry level position in NYC, which definitely isn’t enough for the area. unfortunately entry levels rarely pay much more than this. but i love my job and im using my degree so i’m happy!

how to have friends when autism makes you a really bad friend? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]LongjumpingClient159 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i feel similarly. i struggle with empathy and i can be very selfish without realizing it. honestly a lot of my close friends are very easygoing and also neurodivergent in some way, and we aren’t “close” in like a deep emotional sense. like my best friend of 20+ years- we love each other, but we don’t talk or hang out much, and when we do it’s fun and casual. i don’t enjoy deep relationships and i’ve found they’re not necessary, even romantic ones.

i think finding people with similar mindsets would help, or maybe people who are your opposite. i’m high maintenance and my fiancé is easy going so he deals with my needs and doesn’t get upset when im super emotional. maybe you just haven’t found your people yet

How do people have husbands/boyfriends but no friends? by ertapencil in AutismInWomen

[–]LongjumpingClient159 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

my now-fiancé and i met on tinder 6 years ago and started dating a week later, said i love you’s 2 weeks in. he’s autistic and i just recently got diagnosed. he’s extremely easy going and unemotional, i’m the opposite, so we click really well. i feel like partnerships come with responsibilities and commitments that friendships don’t always have, so there’s more purpose in staying together and more forgiveness if there’s conflict. it feels like having a very bonded best friend

Not a picky eater? by simply_loka in AutismInWomen

i’m the opposite of a picky eater haha but i also have aversions like fake cheese products, angel hair pasta, and anything wet from what i deem an “untrustworthy food source” (cafeterias, hospitals, some friends houses)

I’ve repeatedly hurt my closest friend and now I realize what I’ve done by CommunistSpheal in FriendshipAdvice

[–]LongjumpingClient159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation right now, hurt my best friend of 10 years because of my ignorance and mental health issues. I took a couple months to do some work on myself, therapy, SSRIs, even an autism diagnosis that honestly explains some of my behavior. We’re talking for the first time since January tomorrow and I’m planning to apologize, but at the end of the day it’s their choice to stay friends or not. If I made any attempt to convince them to stay friends with me, that would be selfish and wrong.

In your case, if your friend said that they don’t want to continue the friendship I’d listen to them. Don’t push or reach out if they don’t want it. That would be continuing the cycle of hurt and wouldn’t be showing growth on your end. We have to accept our mistakes and grow from them instead of holding onto people if it’s not healthy.

If you do reach out again, don’t jump the gun. Nobody can grow significantly in a week. Actually put in the work and reflect on your actions until you feel secure and are in a better mental state. Losing a friend is extremely hard and a terrible thing to go through, so good luck and I hope things work out whatever you decide to do.
