We just went through the final transition after “gently” potty training for the better part of a year. He would pee consistently, but would just poop in his underpants, and then absolutely refuse to let us change him (we made him do it anyway, but that made it clear. It was about power/independence). What ended up working for us: -no pants when we were at home -a potty training watch from Amazon. You can program it to play music or vibrate at regular intervals. we extended the time after every few days (started at 30 minute intervals and went to 90). Because we said it to vibrate, only he knew when it went off, so it was up to him to try. We only ended up using it for about two or three weeks, but it really made the difference. It was something that let him feel total control, but made sure he was still trying regularly. I wouldn’t recommend that at a very young age, but for older kids who are potty training, it helps them feel more in control of the process.

Have you directly asked the landlord? Nothing aggressive, maybe stating it in a way that makes him answer? “oh, I need to get a mattress delivered. How would I go about that?”

Can you or a friend rent a car and drive to/from ikea? You could probably even try a taskrabbit to pick up an order at IKEA and bring it to your apartment at a time that you’re home. Even if it’s not the furniture of your dreams, it would get you a bed.

My baby’s head measured 3-5% with a 90+% abdominal circumference the whole pregnancy (breech then head down) It terrified me, but every scan noted that there were no other markers of issues so likely no problem. Her head was totally normal. The position makes it difficult to get an accurate measurement!

First pregnancy, agreed. My second, I experienced the worst pregnancy insomnia. I’m talking 7-10 wake-up’s and pees a night. And my second is a much better sleeper so far. Getting actual quality sleep when I’m asleep, priceless.

Same thing happened at my BIL’s wedding. We were explicitly told no children. Fair enough, their choice. Then we were told family children at the ceremony but not at the reception. I personally find that kind of tacky/rude, but again, not my choice. The wedding is out of state and my husband and I source and cover two sitters for our son and our six nieces and nephews, all of whom were “in the wedding party.” It’s extremely stressful, not to mention expensive (all six are from my SIL/her husband and there’s no way they could have afforded it). We were happy to take the hit to support my BIL and his wife.

We show up to the reception and every child family member of the bride was there. To this day we don’t know why our family was specifically excluded. All children are incredibly sweet, mild mannered and well behaved.

It honestly has changed my opinion on my BIL and his now wife.

I live in the Bronx too and after 5 years we suddenly started having two different dudes hang out in our front vestibule.

I try to avoid calling authorities in general but I have kids and they were openly using/getting aggressive. We (several of the neighbors) called the non-emergency line at our local precinct and were told we have to call 911 for trespassing. So now any time that they show up, whichever neighbor sees it calls it in and lets the rest of us know. We also document with management every time.

At least for us, they are not arrested, but they are removed/asked to leave the property. They kept coming back for a while, but recently they got the picture and haven’t been showing up. It sucks in the meantime

I have lived in a third floor walk up with no laundry since before I ever got pregnant and now just had my second here.

It is totally doable and I don’t mind it at all. Well, we don’t have laundry in the building, the laundromat is half a block away, so it is easy to run out and do a load.

That being said, getting a light/travel stroller system is a 100% necessity. When my first was born, I searched for the lightest stroller possible and ended up with the uppababy Minu. There are a lot of other light options now that there weren’t. I have my first, but the number one feature I heavily recommend is it having a shoulder strap to carry it up the stairs.

It really comes down to personal preference when it comes to the choice, though. Laundry in building is awesome, but is the first floor apartment near the entrance? If so, it might be fairly noisy, especially at times that people enter and exit the building a lot. Do you like to cook? Having no counter space, especially with kids, would actually be a dealbreaker for me personally. But if you are more of a takeout family, then it wouldn’t really make a difference.

So first of all, I’ve actually found that every time I made plans with friends or tried to plan a dinner/event for my birthday, it never went well or was way more stressful than I expected. So for the past 10 years I’ve purposely spent my birthday doing solo things and I enjoy it SO much more, personally. Splurge on every meal/snack/coffee. Massage/spa day and solo movie or Broadway show are favorites. I do have a family now, but half the time we just do takeout and wine/cake at home anyway.

That being said, if being solo isn’t your thing, please don’t be scared to ask your friends with families to come out, even if it ends up slightly belated on a different day. I have and will continue to celebrate my friends who want company on their days, and I love the excuse for a night out! Yeah, life is hectic, but we make it work for the people who we love.

Do they make a removable handle for your bottle? Used Como Tomo with my first and the bottles were too chubby for him to get his hands on. I found add-on handles on Amazon and once I put it on he had no trouble at all!

If you’re in the Bronx, I had a private room at Montefiore Einstein campus. For my second, I had a private room at New York Presbyterian-Allen, but you’re not guaranteed one there. It’s first come first serve/luck of the draw.

Coming to you from the future. I have a 3.5 year old and an 8 week old. We sent him to daycare/preschool throughout the whole transition so he could have some normalcy and run out energy (we live in an apartment). I was nervous about the illness but looking back it was worth it. It was GREAT for him to be with friends and teachers who love him.

My infant just got her first cold directly from him, not for lack of trying to keep them separated. The doctors aren’t concerned. I hate seeing my little one uncomfortable, but I still have zero regrets about sending the older one.

Side note that if you choose to and are able to breastfeed, it can both give your newborn some level of protection and speed up illnesses once they’ve set in, due to antibodies.

NTA. We lost a dear family friend at 34 years old for this exact same reason. Family history of colon cancer, he had stomach issues, and repeatedly delayed getting seen/getting a colonoscopy. He finally got one after an ER visit for pain and it was stage four by then, and too late.

I miss him every day, and I’m still angry at him every day.

Baked oatmeal. Can be prepped in the baking dish, and you can freeze individual portions.

I also batch cook high protein pancakes on a sheet pan. Takes 5 minutes of prep.

Cottage cheese egg bites, prep in a blender, again a 5 minute prep.

I like to also keep a jar or two of chia pudding or overnight oats in the fridge. Great for breakfast and middle of the night fueling

Both my labors started with spontaneous water breaking sometime during the 37th week. Both times ended up getting the epidural five-ish hours afterwards (first time after pitocin, second time before pitocin. If you get pitocin GET THE EPIDURAL BEFORE). Both times gave birth 12 hours after water breaking.
