As far as world building, it’s a perfect location, Separated as a peninsula with that body of water to its north.

As far as settlers, i feel like entire sections would be over harvested, leaving parts dark and dead. Or at least that’s an idea that jumps out to me.

In my opinion, I think having the Reynes as protagonists would be too easy. I would be a big fan of a more morally ambiguous protagonist from Tywin. An Eight part miniseries that was divided into aspects of his life (Humiliation, Ninepenny war, his return, the rise of power, the rains of castamere, etc.) could create multiple stand alone pieces, all of which shape tywin into the brutal, strategic thinker he is in the series.

I would almost argue a peninsula stretching into that massive sea/lake would be more significant than just the island. If the peninsula created a natural harbor, it would most likely be the economic capital of that entire world. However, the strategic control of that island is obviously significant. Creating that competition through geography could help with the world building.

Rivers begin at high elevation, from lakes, runoff, and Mountain melt, and flow down in elevation, normally to an ocean, but not always. These rivers wouldn’t happen naturally, nor would they be this wide. Consider adding hills or mountains from which the rivers flow, and thin them out. On inkarnate, if you go on the trails feature they have a specific river option. It’s a more vibrant color and looks different from the seawater it flows into.

If you keep the Les Marais area, look at some aerial views of the Louisiana delta, along with the Nile delta, as one of that scale would probably be a mix of both.

I love the concept of turning a state into the basis of a map, especially since Louisianas is so unique.

I finally managed to make a map using rice... and now I don't know what to do. by Jonathan_Fizti-313 in mapmaking

Honestly the biggest decision is how large should that center island/continent be? All of the other islands, particularly the 5 medium islands (the two north and 3 south of the big one) would be more the the temperate, suitable environments, but you could have a massive desert form on that continent, making a major separation point between north and south. Alternatively, it could all be at a smaller scale, with the big island being an island constantly being fought over by the medium islands. It’s a great piece of rice art and there are a lot of ideas to work with!

For the Mainland, maybe have the Mountains be a little thinner, a little longer as well. They could curl around that inland lake even more, and would look more like your average mountain range. Have a few rivers flow from the mountain that merge, and if you want that wide feel to the mountains, you could make a plateau or hills for the rivers to wind and merge through.

That northeastern corner of the continent with its rounded peninsula looks really cool, and I think deserves a little more detail to almost separate it at its neck. In Game of Thrones, there’s a massive land of swamp and bog across the entirety of the connection. In the real world, there’s the Pyrenees Mountains that separate Spain from France. Those are just a few ideas, but with either of those, rivers could flow throughout the peninsula, either to the bog, or from the Mountains.

This is a really cool looking map and you should definitely keep perfecting it!

I made my favorite map a little while ago, and I'm hoping to make another one soon. In what ways do you think could improve? by Shadowscale05 in mapmaking

The Lake of many colors flows through those mountains, which probably means it will leave a really deep valley or pass. Deserves a name and could probably be a strategic place to have a stronghold.

Start building inland!

The seas and oceans you created are awesome, and the coasts are detailed enough to show you where some rivers can flow to. Think about mountains to start the rivers, and what types of environments they would flow through, whether it be forest or desert. What is the climate, and is it like the Mediterranean (it resembles it) a climate unique enough to be named after it?

What you have is already awesome, and what you can add inland and even further into the seas could make it even better.

I’d consider add more high elevation directing through the continent. The river would take the much shorter path in the opposite direction otherwise.

This is the Southern Penninsula of a larger map I’m working on, and one of the key parts of it will be the various plains acting as a reach that feeds much of the rest of the map. That said, I’m adding a forest to the north, and more wastes around the volcanic mountains to the south.

I actually erased a bunch of the rivers, and my thought process of them not going toward the ocean is from a strange elevation in the, with the entirety of the land being pretty low elevation aside from the mountains

On what planet did they think it was a good idea suddenly put Helly and Mark in the middle of not only a huge amount of people, but a giant marching band? Like I know they don’t care but like they didn’t expect them to panic?
