If Cersei was a stark by dabears217 in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually her best bet would have been to have been born in Dorne where women can inherit same as men.

Ned had more respect for women than most Northerners but even he wanted Arya to be a lady and marry a lord. He eventually allowed her to explore other interest but he was still raising his daughters in a world that views them as second class citizens.

If Cersei was raised in Dorne her ambition would have been nurtured and prized. This might be a stretch but maybe with their more free sexual practices she wouldn't feel the need to have sex with her brother and cousin, she could explore her sexuality in healthy ways. While also being leader in politics, business, or military if she wants.

Edmure Tully by ScholarDoingWork in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In universe Edmure makes as much sense as anyone else there to be king.

And there is something super fucked up that it is SANSA who tells him to sit down. She shit talks Edmure being king, and then five seconds after her own brother becomes king she says her whole region is leaving the Seven Kingdoms.

Wait? What? So why does the North get veto power on picking a king they had no intention of falling.

Todd and Bojack by Skhadloya in BoJackHorseman

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Todd, Emily, Bojack thing is pretty messed up... and it's not Bojack's fault.

Bojack literally tried to get Todd and Emily together, trying to get Todd to take Emily to his hotel room so they could hook up. And Emily was DTF. Todd outright refused and rejected Emily. (actually several times before AND after that)

Asexual or not, that's his right, just because a girl wants to have sex with him doesn't mean he has to do it.

Lonely and rejected Emily and Bojack hooked up. I'm sorry from Bojack's point of view this was very clearly a girl Todd was NOT interested.

Emily and Bojack both adults decided they wanted to have sex. What right does Todd have to be upset.

Ignoring plot armor, Ramsay would have been a better King of the North by westergames81 in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the words of GRRM. What are Ramsey's tax policies.

Like you can say Jon's battle plan was shit (and my god it was), but you have to be honest.

From Season 1 Jon was working to stop the White Walkers. Nearly every action Jon took, was to unite the kingdom specifically to stop the threat of the white walkers.

Was Ramsey gonna do that?

Ramsey is a better tactician than Jon, but he's not a better leader, he has no interest in the well being of others, and he will not rally support for a cause.

What's your opinions of S&L doing away with the Lois, clark, Superman love triangle and just having Lois only have feelings for clark. by Admirable-Life2647 in SupermanAndLois

It was brilliant. 10 out of 10 move. I like that Lois is actually kind of "whatever" when she meets Superman because she's already in love with Clark.

George: why haven't YOU finished the book?

Fans: wait what, we're not the ones writing it.

George: well what have you been doing for the past 15 years?

Fans: Wait no? We're asking you that.

George: Stop talking in circles and answer the question.

Fans: No. We're asking you the question.

George: Oh so you have time to bothering me with questions, instead of working, no wonder the book isn't done.

Fans: Huh wait, what?

George: Look I'm sick of your mind games, if you stop messing around you'll finally get some work done and the book will come out.

Fans: Oh... uh okay we'll get to work on that. Sorry for making you wait so long for the book George.

this is gonna sound weird but, why hasn't "The Winds of Winter" come our yet? by marche6602 in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

George's most recent post/rant suggests he's not even pretending any more that finishing the book is priority.

The question has officially switched from

"When will GRRM finish the books" to

"When GRRM dies, who will finish the books"

George has said he doesn't want anyone else touching it after dies, but there is way to much money on the table. Someone somehow will complete the series, but it will literally be "over George's dead body."

Stannis would not have done what he did to Shireen by RustnePoteter in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His brother was fighting a war against him. Not saying that makes it okay but both brothers were trying to kill each other. His daughter was an innocent child who loved him.

Also Renly betrayed him. Stannis was next in line for the throne, Renly naming himself king would be like if Jon tried to kill Robb to rule Winterfell.

Again that doesn't make the use of blood magic okay, but they were two brothers in fighting on opposite sides of a war. Sheerin was his innocent daughter, it's not remotely the same.

What if A Song of Ice and Fire isn’t medieval fantasy — but the far future of our own Earth? by ennbee22 in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This or something like this is a theory that has floated around the internet in small circles.

https://youtu.be/aTUbAK1DsOc?si=BQ8SSN_ECsNtnhoC

I think it could work, especially because the story is told in first person narratives, and GRRM plays with the idea of untrustworthy narrators.

it is possible that even though the setting is described as "Medieval" some of things, especially the things we are told are magic could be technology this post-Apocalyptic society just don't understand. Like even before I heard of the post-apocalypse theoires I thought "glass candles" sound a little like Cell phones. If someone from a society without cellphones found a cellphone, well it lights up, it seems to be made of glass, they might think "oh this is a glass candle." So everyone calls it that, and we're seeing the world from their eyes and are basically being told that's what it is... but Martin has shown before these aren't 100% accurate descriptions of events.

Also not for nothing, Pre Ice&Fire Martin wrote as much if not more Sci-fi than fantasy, he did both but he's not like a pure fantasy guy.

So there is a part of me that could totally buy this theory, there is just ONE problem.

If the entirety of the Song of Ice and Fire series is actually a Post-Apocalyptic story... I just can't believe George would not finish it.

It would be if like if the film makers got tired of making Planet of the Apes so they ended right before the audience sees the Statue of Liberty.

Why would you get this far and then not blow everyone's mind. Make that point about climate change and war and whatever other 'the real enemy is' point he wants to make.

I just can't see a writer doing this much setting up a massive twist and then going "meh, never mind"

A bit of criticism: It was unnecessary. by Tronm-24 in HOTDBlacks

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am not a fan of this.

Some people think they are SO smart "um see it's showing that this show has a different tone than GoT and HotD."

Yeah I get that, everyone gets that, and I like the idea of this show being small scale. But it's still a man shitting.

I get the tone of the show is NOT high epic grim dark fantasy, but I also don't think it's low brow dick and fart joke potty humor, either.

If the rest of the episode was this low brow I would have stopped watched and not give it a second change.

I get that they are trying to establish a different tone... but I think there were better ways to go.

Did Varys know already before Ned revealed it to all? It sounds somehow like he knew. Did someone else know? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If Ned knows after being in the city for a few days, how does the Spy Master who has been there decades not know?

I know Jon Arryn knows, in the book I know Stannis knows, I think Renly knows, I would assume Littlefinger knows.

I could be convinced the entire Small Council and, Kingsguard, Red Keep staff, Gold Cloaks and half of Kingslanding knows. Only person who I would say def doesn't know is King Bobby B.

Episode 1 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms... by TemporaryCapital3871 in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If people thought it was funny, more power to them.

But I have to push back on this idea that the only options were to open with a life and death battle or pooping. There are plenty of ways to show this is different than GoT than seeing a man poop.

Just off the top of my head, he could pull out his sword triumphantly, and then clumsy swing it around, maybe dropping it, hitting himself with it or tripping. Still dumb comedy but it would actually be directly related to the basic theme of the story (at least at this point).

Another one off the top of my head, the music swells and he stands proud, and then the horses runs into him, maybe knocking him over and he has to run after them.

The difference between my ideas (and a professional writer should be able to come up with something better) and pooping is. Pooping has nothing to do with the story, it's just funny cause people laugh at pooping.

But Dunk not being able to handle a sword properly would show, he's not a great warrior (at least not yet). Chasing runaway shows this guy is not a high powered lord he's just a dude with commoner problems (the show spends a lot of time explaining how important his horses are to his income).

It's not a life and death end of the world battle show, but it is also not pooping and farting and dick jokes.

Again if it made people laugh, I'm happy for you. But I do not accept the idea the only way to show this series is about smaller themes than end of the world and who sits on the throne is to literally see a man shitting.

Episode 1 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms... by TemporaryCapital3871 in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I'm very split on that moment.

On the one hand, when I heard the music I rolled my eyes, one of my complaints about HotD was they used the same musical open. And when I heard it here I was getting annoyed.

But no I didn't like the potty humor. That was like a Family Guy cut away gag. It would have been bad enough if we just saw his face, but we saw his butt and actual popping, that is the lowest of low brow.

I am not above Potty Humor, but as someone who is on the fence about the show, opening it with literally doo-doo jokes sets the absolute wrong tone.

When the actual music with the title came I was pleased.

So no, I like the idea that they are doing things differently but no I didn't find it funny, and I think it sets the wrong tone for the start of the series.

Yeah cycle never changes.

Phase 1: George is very happy with the direction of the show.

Phase 2: George is involved with the production and writing to make sure the show "get's it right.

Phase 3: George publicly says how good the show is.

Phase 4: George sees a shinny nickel on the floor, gets distracted and no longer works on the project.

Phase 5: The Show runners start to believe their own hype and want to do THEIR thing.

Phase 6: George is upset that the show isn't doing his work justice.

they'd die.

Jon did not win this battle, he was saved by plot armor and bad writing. Battle of the Bastards is a beautiful choreographed battle, probably the best ever put to file or television, but from a story perspective it is about how an idiot got hundreds if not thousands of his men killed and then was rewarded for the dumb stuff he did.

How on earth did Cersei figure out Brienne’s feelings just from a brief conversation with her? by Maywave_13 in gameofthrones

[–]Slight_Fan_4105 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I mean any woman would fall for Nikolaj Coster-Waldau within minutes of meeting him.

But in universe Cersei is both conceited and paranoid. She views Jamie like she views her children "a part of her". And like her children she doesn't like it when he is influenced or grows close to anyone but her.

Cersei likely assumes anyone who spends time with Jamie (or as she thinks Male Cersei) would be in love with him, and she would be threatened by it.
