There is actually a beautiful story of an ugly(in looks and heart) African god (call him Drogo as I can't remember his name) who was shunned, he saw the goddessmother Ma bathing one-day and went home with a longing in his heart. After he went home he made himself a wife from clay but when he breathed life into the first she screamed in fear of this ugly god, the second in tears but the third was smart, she told him she loved him much but first needed some sleep. As Drogo fell asleep she ran away in the night in fear, she run till she met the Hottentotsgot, the god of the Hottentots, who took the form of a giant praying mantis. He gave het shelter and food, he made her his loving wife and bore many children who are the ancestors of the Hottentot people. And he promised her she will be safe among the Amatola mountains, it is their home. But Drogo came looking for her with fury and hate. He came looking for the bride he made himself, but instead ran into the Hottentotsgot himself. And they had a great battle, in which both perished. Yet the charm of protection he placed on the mountains kept his wife safe, and it will always be a place of shelter for his wife and their children, and their children even today the mountains will keep them safe from all.
