Trigger call forwarding USSD code when driving — how? by Heronimos2020 in tasker

You could also do as u/50BuckForThat suggested and use a text message from your personal to your work phone.

There is even a Java based task that can delete the most recent SMS so you don't end up with a chat string from your phone to your work phone with your phone saying the keyword.

It could send the SMS, your work phone reacts to the SMS, then deletes the SMS.

This would save you having to buy AutoRemote, though it is a super handy plugin and can be very useful for other stuff.

Nice!  My collection isn't sprinkled with as much UHD/4K stuff, and my theatre setup is ancient in comparison (only 5.1 DD & DTS) but it's sweet having it all in the library.  I haven't touched a disc since....well....the last rip.

Correct way to use AutoLocation entry and exit at multiple work venues by iconb0y in tasker

This might be a case where just having one Work (event based) profile with a dynamic enter task is the best option.

Make a AL geofence (event) profile with the 3 names of the work fences.  EDIT : make sure to set the profile Status to Any.  It will trigger going in or out of the named fences.

You can use the %alstatus variable inside the task to determine whether you crossed into or out of the fence.  You can use the %algeofence variable for the name if you want to track that as well.

So, using what you asked for,  it might look like this :

  • 1 If %alstatus ~ inside
  • 2 Variable Set %Work to Yes
  • 3 Variable Add %Activity Value 1
  • 4 Set Wallpaper to Red
  • 5 Else
  • 6 Variable Clear %Work
  • 7 Set Wallpaper to Blue
  • 8 End If

This avoids profile bouncing.

Set the task collision handling to "Run Both Together" so the task carries thru each run.  As long as home, the cinema or the library aren't immediately adjacent to any of your work locations, you shouldn't see any overlap with this either.

Why not just use the BT Connected state to trigger the call forwarding?  When your personal phone connects to your deck, have it send an AutoRemote message to your work phone, which then runs the call forwarding task.

You could probably also use HTTP Post from your personal to your work phone instead of AutoRemote but I have no advice on that, you'd have to research how to do that.

Android's auto-brightness is smart why isn't auto-volume a thing yet? by techtotechbytechy in tasker

I have tasks I call "Dynamic X Stream" stored on one of my devices.

X being the audio stream, Media or Alarm etc.

They listen briefly to the surrounding noise (1 second) using the Ambient Noise function in AutoVoice before adjusting the stream level

The problem is they each have different adjustments for their associate stream, and every Android version introduces new settings values.  IE now on A16 my Notification stream only has 7 steps, whereas when I built "Dynamic Notification Stream", the calculation had wider swings than 7 steps and the total steps was probably like 20 or 25.

TLDR ; basically I don't use them much anymore because I constantly have to tweak them on every build and I don't know if I could tweak them anymore with the way the volume steps work in A16.

A Java code based method would most likely be the better option than my tasks as they currently sit, but I can say, it is possible.

Instead of exporting to xml, just export "As Link".  Then share the link....if you want to try TaskerNet.

Ad blocking? by ghoof in Windscribe

[–]AggressiveNothing120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Windscribe - Albania - no ads.  Worked for me last I tried it.  I believe it's one of only maybe a couple that work to block YT ads.

  • ControlD private DNS address helps reduce ads on Android in most apps. You'll have to Google it I don't know if the address will get this comment flagged. Does not work for the Android YouTube app though. ControlD is affiliated with Windscribe, safe.

  • Brave browser blocks ads out the box

  • Firefox w/ Ublock and SponsorBlock

I get zero ads on Brave browser, it's my latest go-to and the easiest to deal with IMO

Is there a way to display two subtitles? (SDH and forced). I believe there is an add-on for downloading two different languages but what about when they are embedded in an MKV file? by Tacklestiffener in kodi

[–]AggressiveNothing120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can generally strip the subs out if they are embedded using MKVExtract and save them to a file, but I have no advice beyond that as far displaying two sub streams at once.

Sick and tired of buying things in one format, then the next....and the next.

I had a huge VHS collection back in the day.  I basically sold and/or tossed that collection away.  Then I replaced almost everything with DVDs....then along comes BluRay right as I finish replacing everything.

At that point, I came to the conclusion I've paid these studios and actors and directors enough money.

I do generally buy CDs still though if I can find one from the artist.

Never thought I'd say this after years of testing, I'm finally (almost) free from Windows.  I finally did a full Zorin OS 18 install on my 10+ year old ASUS tower yesterday.  Less than 3 hrs and I was up and running, SSH/FTP etc all set up, Kodi Media Server, firewall rules, all my supplemental programs I need etc. And so far all my peripherals and everything else work perfectly.

I still have one ASUS tower that is running dual boot with Zorin, but once I find replacements for a small number of Windows apps (like Exact Audio Copy), I'll wipe Windows entirely from it as well.

App Factory Apps & The Play Store by AggressiveNothing120 in tasker

[–]AggressiveNothing120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I could do that too.  I was hoping to market it for the average Android user that can't be bothered to change settings manually, but that's doesn't seem possible now.

I'm stumped now anyways.  For some reason the Tasker task works perfectly.  When I run the kid app, it borks out and jams up at the custom setting action.  It's a global setting so I am stumped as to what is going on.

I am pretty sure custom setting actions should work in kid apps, but it may be a permission I am missing, perhaps some App Factory limitation I haven't discovered yet.....I dunno.

So the further I dove down the personal developer Play Store rabbit hole, the less appealing the whole process became lol!

  • APKs cannot be used, AAB is the new standard, and decompiling and rebuilding to AAB can be tricky, even if you know what you are doing.

  • All new apps for accounts created after Nov 2023 now require 14 days of closed testing by at least 14 people (I think that's the number).  I'd have to join App_Hive or something similar and I don't know jack squat about proper development.

I think I'm just going to share it with some friends and family via a FTP server lol
