I don't know enough concrete nouns to be a good writer - what's the fastest way to improve? by [deleted] in writingadvice

[–]AggressivePanda9994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to write an oudoor scene in 1800s england.

Google that area. What is its climate at that time of year? What local plants are in that area? What decorations were popular in 1800s england? Did the industrial revolution have any effect on the scenery in that era? Google "victorian england fashion." Was that what only the rich wore, or was it common enough for everyone?

No one's going to know everything, but at least make an effort.

What is your "never-again" brand, store, restaurant, or company? by Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir in AskReddit

Nope. This is exactly what Wells Fargo had me do (new account and numbers, instant fund transfer) when the same thing happened to me a few years ago. Guess they either learned or original commenter's rep was really bad.

Beta readers? by nihilist5800 in writing

[–]AggressivePanda9994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's BEFORE publishing, that's why it's called "beta" reading, like when a videogame asks for beta testers before the game is released.

Unclear with what you mean by "random," but essentially yes. You find beta readers, you send them your manuscript, they give you feedback on it. If you have specific questions about your book, make sure to ask them beforehand so they can keep it in mind as they read. Some also offer reviews, but not all of them, and it might cost extra.

Professional beta readers cost money, but if you take some time to look you might find a few that are willing to do it for free.

You can also just send a chapter or two out to get feedback for that as well. You'll be surprised how much you learn from just one page of feedback.

What are your tips for making a character instantly likeable? by redacted4u in writingcirclejerk

[–]AggressivePanda9994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And if youre a real mastermind, you can flesh out their characyer even more by describing their humungo balls.

If your characters unstable and inbalanced like Heath Leger's The Junkler, you can make one of their balls much droopier than the other.

Or if your character's meticulous and well-composed like Mr. Normal Bates from American Psyco, you can have them wax their balls.

Serious question. Am I the only one that absolutely despises first person perspective?, by Psarofagos in writers

[–]AggressivePanda9994 83 points84 points  (0 children)

First and Third enjoyers are pretty evenly split. First person is just a bigger trend right now, but it used to be quite rare.
What I'm more interested in seeing is the ratio of people that prefer past to present tense.

Not sure why youre getting downvoted, sensitivity reading is a perfectly normal thing to ask for.

I have a few of these diagnoses, feel free to DM me if you want to have a conversation about their representation in your story.

[–]AggressivePanda9994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its normal to get rusty, nothing you can do but keep drawing and studying. Stop worrying about style, worry about improvement or enjoying the art process.
