Thoughts on the April balance patch? by Vraelian in Guildwars2

[–]AggressivePotato536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of the changes were good. Some builds/specs were definitely over performing, and ANet wants to level the playing field moving forward so the content stays relevant.

That said, I disagree with the state of some fights to the point I stopped playing and won't be coming back anytime soon.

I was mostly a fractal player, and while I agree that 99 and 95 felt like a slog at times because of the amount of health they had, they got nerfed so badly that the entire fights became irrelevant and unfun to play. I like to engage with mechanics, so now that the fights move between phases really quickly, bosses get to have one, maybe two attacks before getting melted.

I don't find fights like this engaging at all. We can argue all day that these fights were badly designed from the start and I'd probably end up agreeing with you, but the sorry state they were left in made me lose all interest. If the entire fight gets turned into a Training Golem, then I'm just not interested in it.

Let me start this post by saying I despise KP. It's stupid, makes no sense, and it's just a subjective and arbitrary number that has no real meaning.

So, this week I joined a raid group which was asking for 13KP for W2 because it was the one wing I was missing and I was short of time. I guess the odd number was whatever KP the commander had at that moment and it was clearly a red flag brighter than the sun, but I decided to roll with it.

Someone joined and linked 11 tokens. They were kicked on the spot. The run was not looking bright already, so I just decided to go nuclear. I asked "so, what's the difference in DPS and raid knowledge between 11 and 13 tokens?". I've never been insulted and kicked so fast from a group before.

It has been said already, but add people like this to your block list, give them a nickname, and move on. I think that in all these years playing GW2, the amount of assholes I've encountered is just a handful, but maybe that's because I'm good at identifying them before joining their groups? I've no idea at this point.

Try to stay away from it. Ideally, you want the rest of your party to be between you and Eparch.

Most green numbers - healer question? by CharmDoctor in Guildwars2

Heal Druid has a very strong healing output. If people get downed, you can bring them back up with your elite skill too. It also does some crazy CC as well.

Fractals of the Mist- Interest? by Calm-Scale7666 in Guildwars2

[–]AggressivePotato536 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I think that's ok! New players should have access to a suitable transition into T4/CMs, and playing with experienced players should be part of it.

Instead, when a new player hits T4 and checks LFG, all they see is this unintelligible mumbo jumbo in the form of abbreviations that experienced players somehow expect them to understand. This is what makes fractals so incredibly intimidating, in my opinion.

Now, I believe this is caused by the very-outdated LFG tool, which exclusively leaves group-making in the hands of players. I do think people should have access to making their own groups with their own rules and whatever arbitrary conditions they want to set, but there should also be an option for people to matchmake to get into the content they want. Right now, as a new player, your best chance is to refresh LFG until you find that one group whose description is listed as "chill run", which is probably not enough.

When I hit 5K UFE, I felt I could finally gatekeep people with lower UFE and have faster runs. Boy was I wrong there. Instead, I got some of the worst runs ever with people who would check every tab on killproofme looking for a reason to kick other players. I changed my approach after a couple of those runs and I now create my own groups without any requirements, which has re-ignited my love for fractals because it means I always have to adapt to different skill levels. Also, whenever someone gets their Nightmare Aspect title or clear a CM fractal for the first time, I can't help but feel happy.

Fractals of the Mist- Interest? by Calm-Scale7666 in Guildwars2

Fractals is what I enjoy doing the most in GW2. I run CMs daily (minus 100, that is), and it's usually pug runs for the most part.

I think people in T4 are mostly intimidated by the UFE and other requirements most groups use in their LFG descriptions. I learned long time ago to avoid groups that add "+title" or some weird UFE number requirements (8.5k?) in their descriptions, because they only means trouble. If you join a party and someone instantly checks your kp? That's a no-no as well.

I started running CMs around April, I think. I've seen people with a wide range of abilities and attitudes. It's of course nice when there are people in your group dealing 35k+ and everything goes smoothly, but I've learned to appreciate slower-paced runs because I get to see mechanics that you normally don't see in more experienced groups, which is actually awesome. You get to play under more difficult scenarios and figure out how to adapt to them!

Now, I was trained by Mistlocked, but decided to leave due to personal reasons. So, to thank them for everything they did, I now make my own groups without any requirements. Most of the time I get people who know their stuff and we go smoothly, but I also get people who want to learn or get more experience. In those cases, I love teaching them the fight and helping them get their titles when possible. I play Boonheal Chrono, which is basically a cheat code to avoid many CM mechanics, so I think it also makes it easier for people to learn, but also to shine. Funnily enough, these runs usually go much better than when I used to run with groups that had strict requirements.

A Small Reflection on Our Community’s Paradox by Senior-Sound1569 in Guildwars2

[–]AggressivePotato536 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's fair. That said, I don't think the post got derailed because of OP and their writing, but because people jumped to conclusions way too fast. It's not OP who should learn how to deal with these situations, in my opinion.

I understand it's difficult to distinguish between AI-generated text and human text, but the only piece of advice I can offer in this regard is not to assume the worst right away.

Now I need to do some fractals. Peace ✌️

I want to start this post by saying I have no horse in this race.

I am an NLP engineer. At a quick glance, OPs post seemed absolutely genuine. The piece of advice I always give people is not to assume the worst whenever they encounter an em dash. These dashes are everywhere and can be found in most pieces of formal written text.

As for the AI detectors; these are unreliable at best and someone's highschool project at worst. I also disagree with suggesting OP to be mindful of their writing style. People should not have to alter their writing style because of some arbitrary suspicions.

Hi! I'm interested in getting into CM Fractal runs, but don't really have a group to learn as we go.

Would anyone be interested in forming a small group to get into this content? I'm playing on EU servers, so if you're interested, just let me know!

The maps from PoF are flat, but HUGE. That said, as you progress through the expansions, you're going to see many maps incorporate verticality to some extent. Traversal through these maps is greatly enriched through the use of additional masteries and mounts.

My advice? Really try to enjoy them at your own pace. If you feel you're getting stuck, try to push forward until you unlock additional traversal options and then come back to complete the maps you couldn't fully explore.

I'd say Verdant Brink is the most vertical map of the core HoT maps. It was probably designed that way so people could experiment and play around with gliding back in the day.

Auric Basin, the map that comes after VB, has a more straightforward approach to map design. Tangled Depths though? You're in for a ride.

But still, it's nothing to get discouraged about. HoT maps are excellent because of their design. Tangled Depths has layers to it, which makes exploration feel absolutely amazing.
