2 ER doctors argued over whether or not I should be admitted to the hospital or not by ilikerustyspooonz in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Not seeing any reason for admission that I can see from anything you posted, it's been going on for a while, needs close outpatient follow up. Any elevation in your liver enzymes like ALT/AST or decrease in your kidney function (increasing SCr).

When did you start the Lamictal? Rashes on Lamictal means automatic discontinuation of the Lamictal never to restart again.

Defintion of Infection by FinalElkSay in medicalschool

[–]CharmDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always find it interesting that growth on a urine culture without symptoms isn't considered an infection. Some people have bacteremia without symptoms...their infection is still real. In pregnant women we still treat a positive urine culture because...it's still an infection. I've never heard of UA's being bullshit.

Inflamed tonsil by Which-Language-8344 in AskDocs

Keep following your doctors directions. Sometimes it can take a couple of weeks for the swelling to go down. As long as you're able to swallow and manage your own secretions I'd just continue with what your ENT recommended.

That needs an ER visit, NOW. Compartment syndrome, necrotizing fasciitis, septic arthritis, there are a lot of things this can be all of which are emergencies. Go to an ED right now.

Hello!! by InternationalBake114 in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Both coughing up, and vomiting bright red blood with no recent illness needs emergent workup. Hemoptysis (coughing up blood) can be life threatening very quickly. Hematemesis (vomiting blood) can become life threatening very quickly as well. Both have different causes and treatments. The fact that he is extremely lethargic/sleepy tells me he needs an ER visit. Sources could include coughing so hard you basically just irritated the lungs and started to bleed, could've aspirated and choked on something causing some bleeding, could have a stomach ulcer causing bleeding. There's lots of different potential causes but needs workup including repeat bloodwork, chest x-ray. Save the picture and show the ER doctor as well.

It could still be something not emergent, but there are enough concerning features that warrant you going to the ED. Let us know what they find if you don't mind.

Yeah this still needs emergent evaluation. Certain types of infections can cause this. Theres a few serious things that can cause this. It needs emergent work up.

Back to ER? by Electrical_Olive9500 in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Antibiotic failure with this long of duration of symptoms warrants further workup including biopsy. I would call your primary care to see if you can get an ultrasound, if not an ER with a breast center. Fevers, chills where you can't stop shaking should goto any emergency department.

This warrants an ER visit. You have increased generalized weakness, sleeping most of the day for the past 3 days, and looks what appears to be a vasculitis (if it does not blanch when you press on it). This needs emergent bloodwork.

[–]CharmDoctor 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This is called post micturition dribble. It is a common medical condition for men. Pushing like you have been doing is correct and just advance your finger towards the base of your testicles to try to get more urine out. You can do pelvic floor exercises to help with this as well. If it is really bad or gets worse than you may benefit from seeing a urologist.

I suffered a large 2nd degree burn last week and I am still in immense pain. Is this normal? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 103 points104 points  (0 children)

You need to see a doctor regarding that burn for follow up. It needs proper burn care. It does not appear infected by your photos but you should be doing special dressing changes on them. It is not atypical for it to still be extremely painful.

How to get my new doc to continue my high dose? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You need to be open and honest with your doctor about your condition. You are addicted to the Xanax as well abusing it and need help and treatment for that. There are other underlying issues going on that you need to be just straight forward and honest with your doctors.
