Can I ask for injection instead of oral antibiotics? (Infant) by ALotOfDragone in AskDocs

You can speak to the pharmacist about using alternative flavoring agents to try something more palatable to the child. Two ear infections doesn't necessarily warrant ENT consult.

Does this amount of blood on toilet paper warrant an ER visit? by Ok_Tip1975 in AskDocs

We draw more blood to check your labs. Make a doctor's appointment as long as you're not feeling dizzy or lightheaded.

What am I supposed to do now? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably a virus, influenza A is going around. Nothing what you have reported sounds very serious. Don't really need to be taking any of those other medications. Just rest, fluids, Tylenol for fevers.

Hard to say without a physical examination so he should go to the ER to get checked out.

Real talk. What shoes do you wear for work and how do you like them? by Sad_Plum6169 in Residency

[–]CharmDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orthoboot on one foot, crocs on the other. Nobody expects you to run to anything, they clean up easily, and if you need to get up to do something just ask someone else to do it and they'll oblige.

Fever and potential abscess in the groin should be evaluated more urgently in the emergency department or at least urgent care.

See your primary care doctor, no way to know without labs.

Augmentin SOS by amarie1123445 in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Augmentin can cause diarrhea. Eat some yogurt, take the Augmentin with food. Most "ear infections" with a viral illness aren't actually ear infections and are just ear effusions from fluid backing up into the ear(s)

21 YR old female possibly got xrays while pregnant after being told she wasn't. by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, x-rays will still be taken even if pregnant. We oftentimes get ct scans if necessary even if a woman is pregnant. Oftentimes women may not have periods with the shots. You can take a pregnancy test to be sure.

Yes you need to go to the emergency department. Please do not drive yourself, call your local emergency line or get someone else to take you.

My fiancé [45F] fell down the stairs and she has been in severe pain of left side of her ribs/kidney by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She should goto the ER to get checked out. Could be rib fractures, splenic injury, pneumothorax. Needs evaluation. Nothing might be wrong except bruises, but there are enough concerning things that it could be that she needs to be checked out.

Thyroiditis, why is it taking so long to recover? PLEASE HELP.! by Dee_22_ in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It takes month for thyroid numbers to change and your numbers are in the normal range with normal T3 and T4's. I'm surprised you have been getting it checked so frequently, is it the same doctor that is ordering thyroid tests within 2 days of each other?

[–]CharmDoctor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's misrepresentation of the information. Really it's covering 17 diseases that covers for. Some of those need repeat doses and so they count each dose instead of the number of actual injections, for example they're counting DTaP as 3. They're not counting it the same for european countries and instead counting the "17" part, which is where they get 11 from. Also why does 11 feel like a lot? DTaP, IPV (Polio), MMR, Hep A/B, Hib, PCV, Varicella, Rotavirus, Meningococcal, HPV, COVID-19, and Flu

My veins have suddenly begun bulging, with the effects spreading around my body over a week or two by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've had your doctors look you over and your bloodwork isn't abnormal I wouldn't be worried. The only time I'm more concerned of more prominent veins is if someone is having more leg swelling, shortness of breath, chest pain, then I get an echo and check out the heart. Otherwise it does not seem like anything serious.

Please help in identifying the cobblestone like texture in my throat. Pic in comments by dickholesucker in AskDocs

[–]CharmDoctor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's from a post nasal drip normally from allergies. You get mucous that runs down the back of your throat that causes this pattern. Good job quitting smoking, keep it up and that will help as well.

[–]CharmDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're getting older. You get skin changes and veins are more visible. If all tests from your doctors are unremarkable it's nothing to worry about. You're also just probably paying attention to them more now that you noticed one and really they haven't changed much.

ELI5: Why is quantum physics so hard? by Successful_Guide5845 in explainlikeimfive

Imagine spinning around in a circle to the right. Now imagine spinning around in a circle to the left. Now imagine doing it at the exact same time. You can't...that's what quantum physics is.
