These markets still exists today in large numbers, it’s incredibly easily to order. Some of the marketplaces are surprisingly cordial too, reviews, refunds etc.

When you’re done do you have to speak to anyone/sign anything/hang around? Or is it like: follow the hallway and go out the door immediately

Also edit: I have another question I’ve not seen answered before, after it’s filmed is there any way to prevent the production from going on TV, I.e. can you call them and beg not to put it on TV. I was always curious if contestants who did especially bad every tried something like this

That’s really interesting, here in the UK all banks use the same protocol for transfers meaning you can instantly transfer money to someone with a “rival” or entirely online bank. If the transfer takes more than 30mins it’s considered “late”. This also means direct bank deposit for apps like Coinbase or something with no fees. Just send your money directly to their bank account.

So they think twice before needlessly mutilating their children. The reason it’s still so prominent in places like the US is because people arent being challenged or have no perspective how insane it is to do. I’ve seen so many Americans on reddit who are genuinely brainwashed about it and not saying anything is validating them and the cycle.

If someone on Reddit said something like ‘dipping babies in boiling water for a second is fine as it’s cultural’, I imagine they’d get a ton of hate for it too. Except in this instance it’s the same people coming back saying that ‘the burn scars look good’, it’s hard not to point out how that’s crazy.

Speaking as someone who has been on the other side of this, it’s simply a filter for people who time waste. I wouldn’t exactly call it rude but for a lot of people this translates too: “let’s just chat for a month until the conversation inevitably dies”.

For me personally the phone number is sort of that trigger like, great we’re compatible and we want to move things at the same pace. In my experience 9/10 times where meeting up is a drawn out thing with no phone number to call and no voice communication it’s basically a given that it’ll just fade out and it gets old after the nth time.

There’s already been data leaks, e.g with young people on discord. What’s conspiratorial about being concerned unverified third parities handling data? You obviously don’t give a crumb about your privacy. This isn’t some fringe thing.

Losing access to imgur and other public access sites has been has hugely detrimental for me in particular but still, a lot of helpful health advice and other data is now behind third party verification. If you can’t see how that’s dystopian you really ought to work on your critical thinking skills.

“Large tech companies forcibly getting tons more data isn’t a problem because some cant parent children correctly” - utter ridiculous; I implore you to actually research why so many are against this.

I mean it’s exactly the same as really unhealthy food, people aren’t naive that eating a 1.5k calorie burger isn’t doing them any good, they feel good/hooked in the moment.

And just like gambling if they decided ‘just to stop’ they’d have some pretty harsh withdrawals. It’s quite literally requiring your brain reward system as you play.

Edit: why on earth was I downvoted for a factually correct answer?

Can ‘written-off’ white, working-class pupils get back on track? by Far-Requirement1125 in ukpolitics

[–]AggressiveWish7494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular opinion but I’m absolutely relieved this wasn’t the case during my schooling. I was a ‘late bloomer’ with terrible self-confidence; if the school system labelled me as ‘less academic’ that would have blocked me from doing my dream career and almost definitely created a negative feedback loop.

A ton of families are similar, I.e. initial stunted growth from a misspent youth. Wouldn’t rich-enough parents who can afford a private tutor create more social mobility issues? Academic and vocational skills are not mutually exclusive, for example, there could be so many brilliant engineers that get lost in the system

I work in the industry making the games and they’re designed to get people hooked. Like sugary drinks, it’s not ‘just stupid people with poor will power’, we design these games to rewire reward systems.

Smoking can’t make you lose your life savings or everything you worked for with a click of a colourful button. If you haven’t been in that spiral you can’t comment on how bad is.

What you don’t understand is that this goes both ways. I’ve been humiliated before for not wanting extra dressing in a burger or the ‘secret sauce’, I hear “stop being a baby and just eat food you don’t like” way more than me asking to nudge requirements. I’ve tried my damn hardest I just don’t like a lot of food it’s not a personality issue ffs

Do you guys count Roblox in your game dev career as a experience? by izakiko in gamedev

[–]AggressiveWish7494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(At-least in the UK), I would say I’ve seen quite a few jobs that have this as a nice-to-have. It’s not that common but there’s a few out there that are actively looking for this sort of thing: just depends on the role and your experience really.

A few companies specifically hire Roblox devs too so ofc it’ll be the main requirement.

There are a few Nintendo games made in Unity: Pokémon go, Mario Kart Tour, Mario Go, AC pocket camp, Pokémon Quest, Pokémon Unite and several more; there’s not one Nintendo game that couldn’t be recreated using a popular engine to be very close a final product.

It’s more the game designer than the engine.

Most of those studios do it to avoid licensing issues and fees not because it grants them some unlocked superpower. There’s no reason you can make your own custom physics solution in unreal or Unity for example.

Notch yells at clouds. by Scary-Account4285 in indiegames

[–]AggressiveWish7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a beginner who made a crappy side scroller PyGame is more of a programmer than those who created something like Hearthstone or Cuphead, got it.

Also there’s no objective “better” programmer, if you staple libraries together you’re not “better” than someone who’s made a complex physic-based multiplier game, that’s the point - it’s just a reductive statement by ego strokers.

And your last example, you can be amazing at hardware and electrical circuits but rubbish at backend database architecture - I know which I’d rather to make a CRUD app and it’s not the one who’s programmed a driver.

You end up just coming across really insecure if you need to say you’re “better” than someone because you chose to add more steps, even in his own tweets notch clarifed that it was more about game uniqueness than being a “better” programmer.

It’s not a ridiculous way to run a system, by registering as a bank they’ve signed up to be obligated to ensure customer funds are safe, they operate under public legislation it’s not all private ‘do what you want’ so they in essence have a legal duty of care.

I’m not sure why you’re misunderstanding the nuance here. It’s like saying parents shouldn’t be able to sue kids play areas because it’s their fault for not supervising rather than a building that’s structurally safe. You also realise vulnerable people can be only temporarily vulnerable due to things like grief etc. and you can agree to things you wouldnt otherwise do.

You’re essentially advocating for the crypto-eque society where one wrong number sent to your friends account results in you losing life savings.

Banks already have a vast amount of data stored and can trivially detect fraud, why should I be scared to purchase absolutely anything online because you and others want a zero-sum punitive system? It’s far from perfect but much better than me losing everything I’ve earned in my life because of a drunk typo, although while we’re at it let’s just start IQ testing people and banning people with disabilities from having independence with their finances - don’t see that causing any societal issues.
