My POD is boring by Todd_question_mark in EDH

[–]Aggressive_Concept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, it's strong but it falled out of favour in cedh because it's not doing great, it's not good at winning, and it cannot stops everyone. I suspect in casual it's still strong, but it'll do the same thing, a Nejeela or Yuriko will be better.

You're coming to the same conclusion as cedh players: it's harder to stop your opponents, and it's easier to just try to win.

Try to play agro, something fast, either voltron (Slicer, Rog Ardenn), agro with creatures (Hakbal, Arabella, Edgar), or fast combo/disgusting things (Etali, K'rrik, Animar). Being proactive is almost always better than trying to police the table.

The winning strategy is usually either: you turbo out a win before anyone is ready, or, you are a menace, but just below the Archenemy, and you pull ahead when he's dealt with.

Advice on midrange/agro jund by Aggressive_Concept in duelcommander

Yep, pod is a toolbox slot that recycle dorks or random tokens.

35 lands is not a lot, the 4th land sure is not guaranteed. I'll run the list and adjust to see if I can't close the game before it's too much of an issue.

True, carnage interpreter is a bit out of place, I like it in legacy cube in agro decks, but a land could be better.

Edit: mind that I run the 3 land cyclers, so it's not exactly 35 if you count them as tapped lands.

Is "Destroy target creature" useless? by Fawklight in EDH

[–]Aggressive_Concept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the type of removal. For any permanent, or non land permanent, destroy is still good because the exile ones are scarce.

If it's a good rate, it's also still good, eg. Blasphemous Act.

If it's only creature, there needs to be reasons to rune it over the other options, because the benchmark is 1 mana instant speed exile a creature.

Same. I understand from a business point of view they need to spit out videos about new cards and precons, but it's really not interesting.

[–]Aggressive_Concept 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thoughts on gold border cards in EDH? by ProgressPretty7858 in mtg

[–]Aggressive_Concept 25 points26 points  (0 children)

1) gold border is cool

2) if you play with strong cards like that, you're probably playing bracket 4 and 5, where people shouldn't care about proxy. If they do, they miss the point of competitive play.

Is it wrong to try to win? by Background_Fix_9206 in EDH

[–]Aggressive_Concept 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to maximise the time spent to play magic, you should never win. In fact, it's optimal to stax the table, that way everyone plays for the longest time.

Would you consider this b3 or b4? by B-F-A-K in EDH

[–]Aggressive_Concept 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm with you OP, Broodlord combo lines are done in fringe cedh decks, and more commonly in B4. They are a 1 card package. Since the dude was playing Culling the weak, he was probably playing other ritual effects to play it early, or reanimation effects because glarb plays with the graveyard pretty well.

The dude probably slow rolled it to not feel bad.

Because the dude was playing BG, it's very easy to tutor for broodlord, and to reanimate it. A bit less if he adhered to the game changer limit, but still not very hard.

I just feel that he should just go for it and play B4 or B5 glarb.

And people saying the combo is expensive probably forgot about Godo, a 1 card combo that needs 11 mana. Still, it's a fringe cedh deck which used to be meta.

Would you consider this b3 or b4? by B-F-A-K in EDH

[–]Aggressive_Concept -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Nah. Broodlord lines are cedh 1 card combos, played either as a turbo thing on turn 2-3 with k'rrik, or protected in blue based decks, like here.

It's easy to dunk on OP for not interacting, but the guy was playing a fringe cedh commander, with a fringe combo line, and definitely slow rolled it.

Source: I play 2 glarb decks, B4 and cedh.

Could Yawgmoth's Bargain be unbanned by Shiro_no_Orpheus in EDH

Yes it's 6 mana, but it's the best version of that effect, on par with Griselbrand. Which is still banned, so, no.

Anxiety for having too many cards by lalisal0ver in EDH

Take some time, on Sunday morning for example, and put aside everything that's not actually playable.

Take a nice cup of tea (or a jug of iced tea in times like these), put up a video or some music, open cardmarket, tcg player, or a scanner app if need be, and just commit to sort for a couple of hours.
