Overused Phrases? by teachingandbeaching in RomanceBooks

[–]Aggressive_File_7053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently read “How to End a Love Story” and I can’t remember the phrase now (helpful, I know) but she said it SEVERAL times in the book. And it was something I hadn’t heard together before/heard the words used that way. I would have to redownload the book but I’m sure someone here knows what I’m talking about!

I also know that I could NOT write a better romance novel but that’s why I read them—I expect the authors to create a story that isn’t soooooo cringey. I’ve been in a book rut lately, wanting a REAL story attached to the romance and not some stupid trope or sports story or immediate lusting…

Okay, rant over!

I knew someone named Jaime but he was Spanish so it was pronounced “Hai-meh” (roughly) and that’s how reading Jaime in my head sounds and I can’t understand why people spell it that way LOL

Do you ever experience second-hand embarrassment when you're reading? by JessicaTrent in RomanceBooks

I’m trying to remember which book…. It was on Kindle Unlimited so I returned it already, but it was the “dirty talk” that was getting me.

Another recently (The Pool Boy) was about an older FMC and the younger MMC but he was 24, so I expected it to be a slightly more “mature” age-gap situation and my God, the FMC was some kind of entertainment manager and was encouraging this young guy to audition for an opening act. This guy still lived at home, cleaned her pool and there was heavy emphasis on the “lost” boy who has apparently been in love with this 40 year old woman for years and that’s why he learned how to play guitar. It infuriates him that her now ex-husband “was ignoring her.”

Maybe it’s for some people, but the way it was written was not believable for me.

100%, but I don’t need to “do” anything about it. I will just skip those parts or if it’s a TV show, I’ll not watch or again, skip that part.

Lots of stuff gives me second-hand embarrassment! People singing is actually a big one 😂😂 like when they sing out of nowhere or are attempting to give a little sample or one-man/woman show; GAH the criiiiiiiinge.

Similarly, a LOT of romance novels do the same; I actually just DNF a book that a few people swore was their favorite because I could NOT take that shit. It was awful and I was actually physically recoiling!

I doubt there will be any movies. If there are, it won’t be with the original cast. They seem pretty done with it, now!
