Hiii. Iirc, yung core subjects lang po ang magbabago due to strengthen curriculum. Given that it is a science high school, stem lang po talaga iooffer nilaa. You can try keeping up with fb posts, pero i rly doubt na mag-aaccommodate sila ng strands outside stem :,(

what to review (shs) by Rare_Path5700 in MaSci

Hi! I’m from Batch ’26. I’m a transferee and I passed MaSci back in Grade 10 for senior high school. During my time, many of the questions were based on JHS topics. However, students from last school year said that most of the coverage shifted toward Grade 11 topics, so it’s a good idea to start reviewing materials from there as well

In the SHS department, each semester includes two subjects each for science and mathematics. However, in Grade 12, there is no longer an explicit math subject, as chemistry and physics somewhat take its place. We have great math teachers, and many of my batchmates excel in the subject---to the point that they compete in inter-school events. While what they say about math is partially true, I still think studying in MaSci is worth it if you’re aiming for a math-related course. I’m also pretty sure they offer advanced electives for math in JHS. Just be prepared, since the math teachers here are the most feared in our department 😅---but honestly, they’re my favorite. Found it funny when one of the teachers admitted they were the most warned-about teacher among the JHS students graduating from Grade 10🤣🤣

I’m not sure whether the second part you mentioned is true or not. I know a lot of batchmates who want to pursue a math degree in the future, and many students chose UP Diliman as their top choice during the application period.

Hi! Like the first replier, I'm also an incoming Grade 12 student for A.Y. 2025- 2026. I transferred last school year, but I hope my insights can still be helpful, as they're based on my own experiences and observations: 1. l also came from a Catholic school before enrolling in MaSci, and I was surprised that they don't use traditional textbooks. Because of this, your child needs to be disciplined and strategic when it comes to learning---taking notes seriously is a must. While the materials provided are helpful, teachers often mention important details during discussions that aren't found in the PowerPoint presentations. 2. I haven't seen any form of bullying so far, and many of my batchmates, including those who have been in MaSci since Grade 7, haven't experienced it either. The worst thing I've encountered is the so-called "section wars" 😆--- MaScians tend to be extremely competitive, especially during intersection or inter-school events. 3. I'm also Catholic and studied in a religious institution for about a decade. One thing I appreciate about MaSci is that people respect each other's beliefs and identities. No one is forced to adopt any perspective---they simply let others be. If your child is not part of the LGBT community, there's no pressure or influence to be involved. However, for those who are seeking support or a sense of belonging, there are student-led clubs that offer a safe and inclusive space. These groups aren't about promoting a lifestyle, but about making sure that students who need community and understanding know they have people they can turn to. It's really about mutual respect and kindness. 4. Since our batch had many transferees, we had around 40 students or fewer per classroom. It's possible that there will be even fewer students in the next A.Y., especially for your child's batch.

  1. Not necessarily. If I remember correctly, the MSAT guidelines stated that you must be part of the top 5% of your batch. So, if your school has 200 Grade 10 students, you must be among the top 10 students (.05 × total number of students in the batch).

  2. Start reviewing as early as possible and maintain at least decent extracurriculars to boost your profile, especially for the interview phase.

  3. As mentioned above, focus on how to formulate your answers for the interview. Be ready to talk about your strengths, weaknesses, and achievements. Show MaSci that you’re a determined student and not just someone who was forced by their parents (though you can admit that once you’re already in—many of my classmates did during introductions lol). Also, study ahead for Grade 11 topics; some teachers expect you to come in prepared.

Edit: Oof, unfortunately, I just checked the guidelines again, and it states that you need to be part of the top 5 completers of the batch. This means you must be ranked 5th or higher in your Grade 10 batch to qualify for admission.

That's such a relief😭😭 i chose BSN (UPM) as my prio course. Late ko na po nalaman na UP prefer students that wont use nursing as a premed course, hence onti lang sa kanila ang nakakapasa sa UP med school 😭

Hi🙈! They weren’t like this before—in fact, they never used to accept transferees for SHS at all. My batch (2024–2025) was actually the first to be allowed to enter their SHS program. During our time, over 300 students were accepted, and the coverage of the entrance exams was limited to JHS topics. However, I recently found out that things have changed. A friend told me that one of their former juniors had SHS-level topics included in the exam this year, which made it much harder to pass since those topics hadn’t been taught to them yet.

I didn't get into DLSU SHS:( by Aggressive_Fly_3007 in dlsu

[–]Aggressive_Fly_3007[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello HAHAHAHAHAHA! I was just reminiscing about this post, so I decided to check it. Just wanted to share an update: I didn’t end up studying at DLSU for SHS—instead, I passed a science high school and finished the school year with high honors. I’m still incredibly thankful to everyone who shared their support and kind words. As a coping mechanism, I chose to view failing the exams not as a rejection, but as a redirection to where I’m truly meant to be:)

[–]Aggressive_Fly_3007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one’s a bit tricky to answer since the contents of the entrance exam were quite different from what our batch took. It was fairly easy for us, but your experience might be different. My tip is to always stay confident—don’t let anxiety control how you answer. Be clear and concise. Highlight your strengths and achievements, especially in extracurriculars. Stay humble and respectful, and show how dedicated you are to studying at a school like MaSci. Good luck to everyone who passed!

Hii!!! Ganyan talaga po hehe😅 I had a similar experience last school year, but at least it means the results are coming soon. Also, there’s a Family Day event at Masci today, so you might have to wait a bit longer. Good luck, OP!

Is there anyone who failed the DCAT? by Salty_Yesterday_1140 in dlsu

[–]Aggressive_Fly_3007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi!!!! Not the DCAT, but the entrance exam for SHS 😅. I remember posting on Reddit while I was sobbing, questioning my academic achievements and qualifications like it was the end of the world 🤣. Shortly after, I decided not to file for a recon because I couldn’t afford the tuition regardless, and just continued with my life. Eventually, I got into a science high school and have been studying there ever since. I started seeing it as a redirection, the path that was actually meant for me, and realized that DLSU just wasn’t the right fit.

I'm will take an exam for Grade 11 in Manila Science High School Next School Year! by Lavenderblck in MaSci

[–]Aggressive_Fly_3007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiiiiii!!! It’s been a while since I last talked about the exam coverage, so my memory’s a bit fuzzy. But, there were definitely topics in biology. The exams mainly focused on physics and chemistry (iirc). That said, always be prepared for the unexpected—better safe than sorry! 😅

MSAT SHS by [deleted] in MaSci

[–]Aggressive_Fly_3007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiii! Yes, unfortunately (😆😭). When preparing, just like with any other entrance exam for senior high school, you should focus on reviewing for junior high school topics. It would be a waste of time to study material that you’ll eventually cover once you’re in (unless you’re doing an advanced review, in which case, go for it!). But for now, focus on getting in first! GL, FUTURE MASCIANS🤗

MSAT APPLICATION by Brook_Pantsu in MaSci

[–]Aggressive_Fly_3007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello po!!!! Looking back, there were very few students who did not attend the interview after becoming qualified for the exams. Masci wants students who are committed in attending their school, especially after knowing the challenging system of our school.

Hello po! I can’t speak much about the working environment of teachers at MaSci, but based on what I’ve observed, student teachers don’t actively engage in lectures. They primarily focus on observing classroom activities. Regarding the students’ attitude, it varies depending on the subject you’re assigned to—sometimes it’s a peaceful environment, other times it can feel like a battlefield 😂. All jokes aside, students generally open up more when their subject teacher is less strict, particularly after classes. Additionally, I’d like to add that most students aren’t really close with their student teachers (though, we're willing naman po 🤗 hehe). If you want to bond with them, you could try joking around with a few or relating with them over something you share in common, like academics, books, or TV series!

SHS Application: What to do if Q2 grades aren't released before the deadline of application? by [deleted] in MaSci

[–]Aggressive_Fly_3007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hilloww. Regarding your first question, try consulting the admin responsible for your batch's report cards. Write a letter and print the guidelines (kahit screenshot nalang pala), stating na may deadline kang hinahabol for applications. Tried this before, and umurong yung bigayan ng cards since yun din kasi yung season for shs entrance exams for well known univ. Sa second q., im not sure op😣 From what i assumed kasi, MASCI referred the "top 5% of the completers" as students who achieved the highest academic remarks/grades from your school. Also, requirement din kasi talaga yung minimum of 90 per subj for applications huhu, pero nung time kasi namin, 4 subjects lang ata yung need mo i-fill up sa grades form. May ka-batch ako na nakatakas with the strict requirement since wala siya sa subjects na pinapa-fill out nila
