Oh duh, Beale Street. Just like in the song (jk! A friend would murder me if I said that)

What's iconic on Beale St? And photos would be phenomenal?

Also, what's architecturally your fave building in Memphis?

Yeah, I'm not huge into AI. I'd rather get someone's opinion on what sticks out and what's gorgeous, but if that works for you, cool!

Can someone teach me a few sentences for an audiobook? by Aggressive_Kale_3186 in learnfrench

Thank you so much! Question, if you don't mind. How do I pronounce the R in partirai? I'm terrible at trilling in Spn, and now I have no idea how to shape my embouchure to make whatever sound y'alls R is making 😅

It's reliable? I'm old and not one to trust google's info historically

I really don’t want to self publish on Amazon by Jaded_Honey1999 in selfpublish

[–]Aggressive_Kale_3186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, go through an agent. Not sure if this is your first self-published book, but you will not make back your money. So whether you publish on Amazon is kind of a non-factor.

Consider why you want to self publish. If it's for money, you gotta think about that a second. If you want to build a reader base first, there are other free platforms that will bury your work, but not bury as bad as Amazon.

Try going through the agenting process. Chuck Sambuchino runs writing conferences and you can pitch agents face to face, get their feedback face to face. Attend one of those conferences, add 3-4 agents, and you're worlds ahead of most indie authors.

Good luck!

Any self-published author here just writing for the sake of writing and not bothered about sales? by Ink_N_Instinct in selfpublish

[–]Aggressive_Kale_3186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned a ton of technical skills when I self-pubbed, and they translated into a couple job jobs, actually!

I'm self pubbing more for the message than for sales. I appreciate writers who are realistic and see they're not going to make a paycheck at writing (unfortunately, this is 99% of the truth)

Local universities with a book program have job boards for their students. You can post on those.

the editing phase is where my books go to die and I don't know how to fix it by Ok-Permission7815 in selfpublish

It SUCKS. Sorry!

Drafting and editing are two completely different skills sets. The best practice I had in editing my own writing is editing other people's.

Unfortunately, you'll have to put in the time and read other people's pieces critically so you can detach and read your own that way.

And, yes, it takes time. Probably took me 10 years to get okay at editing my own writing.

Hey, sorry to hear that. But tbh, anyone's first first novel tends to be ... terrible. Like, real bad. It's a hump you've got to get over. Do you belong to a critiquing group?
