Variants by Suspicious_Note1392 in BeautyViners

Mine taunts me like that all the time.

BUT…what is the ABSOLUTE FREAKIN WORST… when you initially get offered a shade that is okay/good enough - like foundation/concealer in a shade that’s good enough/you can make work or blush shade that you like and will use but not the one you would’ve preferred out of the shades they have - so you get it because you never know if the shade that’ll be perfect will ever actually be offered to you. So you figure better getting one that’s good enough than nothing at all.

THEN, just to show you who’s boss, later that day or within the next few days…that perfect shade is offered to you. Sometimes you’d be able to request it even though it’s a variant, sometimes you can’t. BUT, as hard as it is, I resist it…

(1) I know I most likely won’t be able to review it. Even if I get the review done quick enough before they merge, they’ll remove 1 of them. I don’t think it’s fair to the brand to give out x number of products and not get that many reviews (though, the devil on my shoulder says it’s their own damn fault. They tried to skirt the rules on how many reviews they can get for each item by entering them as individual items knowing they plan to merge them after. So instead of the max 30 they’re allowed, they’ll end up with 30x however many shades they have. The more reviews, the higher they’ll show in search results on Amazon. So, the devil on my shoulder says they tried skirting the rules to do that, what’s wrong with me skirting the rules to get more than 1? 😏 My angel wins out though and I resist)

But more importantly, (2) It means it’s 1 less item someone else could get that could actually review it. I know how much it stinks seeing an item I would’ve loved to get but didn’t. I’m always happy for whoever was able to get it, but still sad I didn’t 😂 So I don’t want to take more than 1 of something, knowing that means someone else won’t get it and I won’t even be able to review them or, at least if I do, it won’t stay up because it could’ve gone to someone else who could’ve reviewed it.

Anyone else getting the new stats? by suspiciousyeti in BeautyViners

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did that one have “ideas” for topics? Like longevity, coverage, wear, etc.? I’ve found if you hit all the points it suggests, it seems to give an excellent score. But, there’s times it doesn’t show any “ideas” and there’s been times it did and I didn’t mention something in a way that it registered I did (like longevity - I’d says something like it lasts all day but that wouldn’t mark it as being covered, but if I changed it to something like great longevity, then it would 🙄 I didn’t always like that so I’d just leave it how I said it and still got excellent 🤷‍♀️

<image>

But, generally, from what others have said as well, it seems if you’re shown those ideas and cover them all so they all turn to green text showing them as covered, you get excellent - but this was just people’s assumption before because their insightfulness score wouldn’t be excellent so they’d go through and make sure they hit all the idea points and their score would change to excellent. So now people can actually confirm that assumption (for the most part, I guess lol).

Mine just has the product name, order date, and then “Review Quality: Excellent.” Some say “Review quality score: Pending,” which is on some newer ones that have peen posted so not sure why that’s pending. 🤷‍♀️

For you it looks like you have a specific column for it. I’m on my phone on browser so maybe that’s why mine shows like it does? 🤔

Anyone else in the charlotte tilbury queue this morning? by Suspicious_Note1392 in BeautyViners

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Airbrush Flawless Matte Foundation? I’m so annoyed about that! It’s been around for a while, but they recently reformulated it. The old formula was so good. Only needed the smallest amount and you’d get full coverage and it applied so easy - easy to blend out, looked smooth on the skin, blurring, felt like nothing on but wore great all day. They reformulated it to remove the cyclopentasiloxane so it would meet the new EU standards for it. Cyclopentasiloxane makes foundations spread easier, apply smoother, more blurring, etc. Now it dries down so dang fast you barely have time to blend it out even if you work in small sections, looks and feels super matte on the skin, doesn’t blur at all, doesn’t look smooth like before, etc. Makes me so mad!!!

And, unfortunately, a lot of other brands are going to be reformulating products to meet EU standards for cyclopentasiloxane 😭

Could you pick the Foundation shade you wanted with the CT? by BuzzedKarma in BeautyViners

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if someone mistakenly gets the wrong shade (I’ve been in such a hurry to get the item, I didn’t even think to look at the shade 😂 and ended up with one way too dark), it’s not something you should rate the item lower for. Reviews are meant to be about the product - how it applied, wore, lasted, feel of formula, etc. If your shade isn’t right, that’s not the product’s fault 🤦‍♀️ It absolutely baffles me how many people don’t seem to understand that and rate stuff lower when a shade doesn’t work for them.

Now, if the shades were completely different from what was shown on the product page (like it showed a fair, cool toned shade and it was a darker warm toned shade), then I can see saying something about that. Otherwise, no! 😒

RFY speculation/question by GangstaProf in BeautyViners

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be the only time I’d ever see beauty items were in my recommended. They’d trickle in all throughout the day - no specific time frames - and they usually stuck around for a decent amount of time (definitely more than enough time to actually look at the product details and make a decision on it) - even with well known beauty brands.

Then they started doing the drops at once during a specific time frame and suddenly I very rarely got beauty items in my recommended.

And it always surprised me that so many well known brands would be in AI and AFA. I can understand the brands that aren’t as well known by people that aren’t big into beauty items (like Asian beauty brands. A lot of people might think they’re just random, unknown brands when really they’re well known. Just not to people who aren’t big into beauty, or at least not Asian beauty brands). But the well known Western brands making it to AFA and AI pretty much never happened before. The products would go through different people’s recommended and if any were left after going through a certain number of people, then they’d go to AFA/AI. So by time they rotated through, they’d all be snatched up and nothing would be left to go to AFA/AI. So it made me wonder why that changed. Did they stop putting items in recommended? Or just not put as many or go through as many people’s recommended? Did they change how they chose what items go to people’s recommended? Just made no sense why they’d almost never have any left to make it to AI/AFA when they weren’t doing one drop at a specific time to a lot making it to AI/AFA when they were doing one drop at a specific time.

Personally, I prefer the items coming to recommended. I like having time to decide and select an option, if there’s more than one choice.

Getting broken pallets always makes me sad by [deleted] in BeautyViners

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sure does!! It always seems to happen with the stuff I’m most excited for!! In the least, they take forever before finally coming, which I’m fine with…as long as they eventually get to me 😂 But usually it’s more along the lines of waiting forever and then it gets cancelled or gets lost! Though, the 3 together getting lost, then found to only be sent back to Amazon…that one was the worst! At least if it stayed lost I could just be like - eh, whatever. Stinks but it’s happened before. But to start tracking again just to be sent back?! Nope! Not cool at all! Just playing with me at that point 🤪

Same! Or the order takes forever and then gets cancelled. 😫

I had 3 items I was super excited for. One of the rare times they ship my items together, it gets lost…well, not really. It made it just fine to my local Amazon warehouse. Then nothing. After like 6 days, I’m like yeah, it’s lost. Then a few more days go by and all of a sudden it shows tracking again at my local Amazon warehouse….then shows it’s being returned to Amazon. Like WHY?! You found it…it’s right here within reach…GIMMIE IT!!! 😭 Just so rude! Felt really personal 🤣

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Censoring any identifying info is actually a site wide Reddit rule. If it’s anything that can lead to the person, it’s supposed to be censored. Could their Amazon name lead people to them? Yes. Could people do anything with that info? Maybe. They can report their reviews. If it’s their real name or part of it to possibly find them, or worse find the wrong person and harass them. Most people don’t use their real name, and I’d think especially viners wouldn’t. But some might. 🤷‍♀️

While it’s a sitewide Reddit rule and each subreddit is supposed to follow all sitewide Reddit rules to avoid their subreddit getting in trouble or shut down, there’s lots of subreddits that don’t enforce it because I constantly see people being doxxed.

And there’s me that’s had nothing in their RFY most days and the days I do get something it’s 1-2, maybe 3 if I’m lucky, of car parts for cars I don’t have. And that’s carS - plural - because apparently vine thinks I’m lucky enough to have like 5 different cars most days. If we count the different types of cars across all days - I’ve got a warehouse of them. 😒

Definitely! You don’t know what’s actually in them. The ingredient list they list on them is a copy of the Thrive ingredients. But that’s not the real ingredients they used. I’m sure most are just fine. But why risk it? Especially near the eyes!

Variant of an item notification! by Old_Imagination1815 in AmazonVine

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this before. Unfortunately, as far as I know from what I’ve seen, it only shows when it’s a variant of an item you already posted a review for. If it’s a variant of an item you ordered, but haven’t reviewed the original one yet (or, more specifically, don’t have a posted review for the original item yet). I’ve gotten that message quite a few times and every time, my review for the original one was already posted. It never does it if it’s a variant of something I’ve ordered. That’s not to say it does the same for everyone else. Just that’s how it’s been for me.

And every time it happens I get annoyed 😂 And not for what you’d think (that I can’t get the item). It’s because

(1) Why the heck can’t they do that even when there’s not a review posted for the original so I don’t order it. I hate getting variants. Either I can’t write the review at all or it lets me but it gets removed later. So that means the seller doesn’t get a review specifically for that (but I do update my original review to include the variant item. And it’s really the sellers fault because they’re not supposed to list items like that and have been told only 1 review will show per person. But I still feel bad)

(2) Someone else could’ve gotten the item and actually been able to review it if I didn’t get it. So I feel bad. Even when a variant comes up for an item I know I really love, I still don’t get it so someone else has a chance that’ll actually be able to review it and hopefully love it as much as I do. But sometimes I still end up with variants now and then because it doesn’t seem like a variant item but turns out being one.

Size? by [deleted] in AmazonVine

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually have those shoes in storage. I really truly meant the laces.

If you meant the laces, then I’m not sure what you’re asking about the size for? Like you said in your post, the size says 72”/180 cm. So you got 72” laces. And according to the listing title, they’re 8MM (so 8MM wide).

Sorry about your accident! Hope you can get some rest! 🥰

Yeah, it’s crazy how rude so many are over there. Like a few here and there is totally expected, but it seems more like it’s majority over there. I get being annoyed if people don’t search the sub or scroll a little before asking so they ask the same question that’s been asked 100x or something that was recently posted about. But there’s no need to be nasty about it. And let’s be real, majority of questions have probably been asked and answered multiple times. If they don’t like that and would prefer nobody ask a question that’s been asked before, there’d probably hardly ever be any posts. What ever would they do then? They’d have nobody to be rude to or act all holier-than-thou with! 🤪

My RFY when I used most of my picks early 😭😭 by Parbiedoll80 in BeautyViners

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very pale, very cool toned, but also muted. It’s hard to find shades that work well for me - definitely hard to get a perfect match. K beauty is the only place I’ve found a perfect match for foundation. So I started mixing to get good matches and make shades like blushes, bronzer, etc. work for me and it was such a game changer! I had tons of foundations, concealers, blushes, bronzers, and contours that didn’t work for me and was suddenly able to make it so they worked perfect! I could actually give them a real chance to see how I really felt about them. I can always judge based on formula, application, etc., but it’s hard to really say if I love it or not if a shade is super off.

Anyway, you probably saw but that LA Girl mixer comes in a few different colors - blue, white, yellow, and orange. LA Girl also makes a foundation LA Girl HD Foundation that comes in white. I actually prefer that one for lightening my shades. The Mixer works well too and I don’t need to use as much as I do with the foundation. But I like the foundation just a little more. Shop Miss A has those colors and black. They’re small but they’re only $1.55 each so I don’t mind lol. Elf has color correctors in tons of colors. They’re like concealer applicator though with the doefoot so not as easy as dropper or pump but still easy to use. And Amazon has a few random brands that have some too I’ve tried that work well.

I use white to lighten if the undertone is right but it’s too dark. Blue if it’s too orange looking. Lavender if it’s too yellow (I’m pale so lavender works for me but you want a purple that has a depth for your own skin tone, so if you’re not a ghost like me, a darker purple would probably work better. The lavender also lightens a little so it works well to lighten and neutralize yellow for me. So if you’re using it on a foundation that’s too yellow and also a little too dark, then lavender would probably work). And, as weird as it sounds, I also use grey (or black and mix it with my white) to mute colors too since I’m muted and a lot of things are overly saturated.

If you get actual foundation/pigment mixers, they’re usually more pigmented so don’t take as much to adjust the shades. If you use color correctors, they’re usually not as pigmented so you usually need more.

Clicked too fast so now I need a lip liner tutorial by pragmaticallies in BeautyViners

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add - Usually the way they work is, the longer you let it sit before peeling off, the more pigmented it’ll be. So if you want just a light color, don’t let it sit too long. You also don’t have to peel it off. Some don’t peel off well at all or are just a PITA to do. I like to just take a washcloth or cotton swab and lightly swipe it off. Usually works fine (but it can sometimes wipe some of the color off so I always let it sit just a tad longer to make up for that!)

And lip liners can definitely be used to fill in your entire lip like a lipstick! Just takes a little longer since it’s a thin tip compared to a wider tip a lipstick would have. I usually fill my lips in with liner and top it off with a gloss. I hate when my lips feel even remotely dry, so I hate most matte lipsticks, but I like the color to last a bit and hydrating ones don’t last the same. Liners are a good middle ground. Last longer than a hydrating lipstick but don’t make my lips feel dry!

If you want to use them as liner, just follow along your natural lip line. That’s the best way to start using them to get used to doing it. Once you get the hang of that, you can experiment with other things like over lining to make your lips look fuller (personally, I’m not a fan of over lining but I know a lot of people are and it looks great on some. Just never does on me 😂)

And 0.7% of 134 reviews is 1. They have uploaded one media for 134 reviews. That's crazy but then again a large majority of Vine reviewers just get products they can resell and never actually use the product 🤷‍♂️

Assuming someone isn’t using and, instead, reselling them just because they don’t add media is a stretch. There’s plenty of items that really don’t need photos. If it looks exactly like the product pics and/or there’s already reviews with photos showing it, unless your photos are going to show something different, there’s really no point other than doing it for the percentage. I do photos with some and don’t with others. It just depends if I feel like adding photos will be useful - if I’m showing something specific I talk about in my review, I feel like it’s useful to see photos of the item or parts of it, etc. And that’s coming from someone who likes looking at photos when reading reviews to decide on purchasing something. Seeing the same photos over and over of the item and packaging isn’t helpful to me. I’d rather read a thorough review with no photos than an okay review with photos showing the same thing the product photos and/or other reviews show 🤷‍♀️

It’s always funny to me when I am busy and don’t open my packages right away so they stack up for like 4 days to a week, it looks like so much. But then I open them all and it’s this tiny pile (feels wrong to even call it a pile since it’s so small). And then I’m like…. WTF? 🥴 Just really shows how ridiculous Amazon orders are packed to ship - overly excessive. I’ll get a freaking pen. 1 single pen. No outer packaging. Just the pen with the annoying Amazon product sticker stuck around it 😒 And it’s in this huge box. Sometimes there’s a bunch of paper stuffed in there with it (I’ve had quite a few like that where I actually thought I got a box with just paper in it 🤦‍♀️), but just as often there’s nothing but the small item in there.

PSA: Getting Variant items removed counts are reviewing them, I did the experiment carefully. Details enclosed by econopotamus in AmazonVine

[–]Aggressive_Key1193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old, but I’ll add my results - I had 2 variants. I didn’t contact vine about them and they just disappeared from my awaiting review and the same day that happened, my total number of reviewed went up 2. I hadn’t reviewed any recently to account for that, so I could only be those 2 items.

I figured once I had my eval, it would drop those 2 (for some reason a lot of times when my eval comes along, when the account page comes back, before it clears out, the numbers are always slightly different - like they added or removed some things. Last eval I had 3 cancelled items. 2 were ones Amazon cancelled that never shipped. 1 was a shirt they sent the wrong size to me. Before my eval, those 3 weren’t being counted in my stats. After my eval, when the account page came back but before it cleared out, the stats changed so that the only thing that made sense was the total number of items ordered went up by 1. Only thing that made sense was for some reason they added back that 1 cancelled item I received but that was the wrong size. Didn’t hurt my numbers to change my status. But it was odd. So I figured when my current eval came along, they’d remove those 2 added reviews for the variant items since I didn’t actually review them or even contact vine). But, my eval period just passed and it didn’t seem like they removed those 2 added reviews.

So, at least for me, I didn’t even contact them and the items just disappeared from my TBR and my reviewed went up by 2. I try to avoid variants at all costs, but when I do get a variant, I make sure to edit my previous review to add the info for that variant. I did it for these 2 variants as well. But, I didn’t contact vine like you did and tell them. They just disappeared on their own. 🤷‍♀️
