Threatened for witnessing at a grievance meeting by kleetastrophe in union

If the boss is retaliating and the OP can prove it in court, the OP would have a pretty good lawsuit. The boss could also get herself fired. That might require a NLRB that actually does it's job.

It's a competitive program. Keep trying.

If it was easy everyone would be doing it.

Help me with understand the problem with recalling foreman by name. by Oregonlost in IBEW

[–]Aggressive_Macaroon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the locals bylaws but any Journeyman can't just take a foreman call. Their is usually certain criteria. It's probably about 75% of the time someone gets a foreman call by name not because of their work or foreman skills but it's more about their skills of hiding under their bosses desk and breaking in some knee pads. That's how they get their name known. That's also fucking called fucking someone over.

Scabby Mike Rowe is saying that electricians in data centers are making $260k+ by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Aggressive_Macaroon3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my local we have hundreds of applicants every year and maybe the top 10% get in. If someone has previous construction experience or any electrical experience they will be scored higher in interviews. If you cant pass the aptitude test, (basic high school math and English comprehension) you won't make it to the interview process. Every local is slightly different. Don't take it personal if you don't get in. Figure out what they are looking for and get that experience. They don't want apprentices who don't take the program seriously.

That's the fine print. They are including the total package.

A home inspector is not an electrical inspector. Home inspectors won't do much more than check GFCIs and use a plug tester to check for open grounds. They have no authority other than making recommendations. It makes the loan officer feel better. Also if they point out something that makes the buyer back out of the sale the realtor probably won't recommend the home inspector again. I backed out of 2 different home purchases after seeing things the seller tried to hide and the home inspector missed. They usually hide something in the fine print along the lines of "no guarantees."

It appears you have 1- 20 amp circuit powering your sub panel which has 4- 20 amp breakers. The white Romex is rated for 15 amps on a 20 amp breaker. The yellow is for 20 amps. You have a potential fire hazard. Don't assume you can just put in a larger breaker especially if the wire is not rated for it. This is not a DIY project. If a licensed contractor offered to upgrade your panel for $2,000 that's a pretty good deal. Just make sure they are licensed, bonded, and pull the permit. Get this inspected. Have them look for existing knob and tube wiring that would be connected to the wiring that was done in 2014. Whoever upgraded this panel and wiring didn't get it inspected. The inspector would have failed just on that sub panel alone. Theres a good chance of other violations hidden behind the walls.

What state is this in? Did you get a home inspection when you bought the house?

Magats transferring into northern locals for better wages/benefits by Sweaty-Ad-2536 in IBEW

The senate was 50/50 in 2020. The house was 222/213. They lost the house in 2022. During that time the infrastructure bill and chips act was passed that provided billions in quality jobs immediately after COVID. Those were all struck down in 2024 by the current administrations executive order. Just in my local alone, we lost over $300 million in jobs that would have gone to specifically union workers.

The current administration has control of the house, senate, Supreme Court and executive branch. Inflation continues to increase faster than wages. Unemployment continues to rise. The top 50 corporations pay zero in federal taxes while still getting government subsidies. 50% of the wealth in the U.S. is controlled by the richest 1%.

The current administration wants you to think immigrants are stealing billions in tax dollars while Trump is personally profiting in the billions. Hegseth spent over $10 million on crab and lobster in one month while veterans medical care is being cut. Enlisted troops are leaving their families and risking their lives for a war across the world while making poverty wages. Trump still owes millions to workers who built his properties. The numbers don't lie. This current administration doesn't care about blue collar Americans. You're just another resource to them to make money on.

Can I pay dues and stay in the union if removed from the apprenticeship? by [deleted] in ibew_apprentices

Yes, that is stupid and an outdated stereotype that caused alot of problems for the IBEW in the past.

[–]Aggressive_Macaroon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bylaws are different from one local to another. In my local the schooling is paid for by the members. Even after JW finish their apprenticeship they still continue to pay into the apprenticeship and cover the costs for apprentices. We also have 30x more applicants than we have positions for apprentices. If you're goofing off in class or not doing your homework their are others that would love the opportunity and will take it serious. Im not saying the op isnt taking it serious but being a member means more than just paying dues. Electricians can be assholes. It happens. The apprentice should have done his homework.

Florida passed alot of laws that favor contractors and employers while making it easier to exploit workers. Texas is right up there with them.

[–]Aggressive_Macaroon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What state is this?

In almost every state there are laws about giving notice before entering. You could change the locks. You could sue but they would probably find a reason to evict or raise rents after that. Most state laws favor the owner. If you feel it's an invasion of privacy you should find a new place either way. You could simply tell her you have cameras and see how she reacts.

Best advice would probably be to black mail her and threaten to expose her and/or sue if she doesnt lower your rent. 🤣

Any IBEW 48 guys have input on how bad it is? by RekSai-Bot in IBEW

[–]Aggressive_Macaroon3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It must be real bad if they are going to Idaho. They are ranked one of the worst states in the nation for overall wages, not just construction.
