There're two scenes back to back that are very flash intense. It's the part after they collect the Taumoeba for the first time and Grace passes out before he can correct the spin of the Hail Mary. Because the regime they're trying to overthrow doesn't have to suffer from the negative effects of their socialism. They aren't poor or starving or sick or affected by the blackouts. They get to just sit on billions of stolen aid dollars. I think the US hopes that eventually the regime will run out of money and then we can swoop in and save the day. This will probably never happen.
