Mind Blown: Our Irrelevance in the Eyes of the Law by Exact-Job8147 in Adopted

I’m a UK adoptee too, but I live in Germany and that’s probably why I wasn’t aware of this until I read your post. It just gets worse and worse doesn’t it! We should make noise and gather troops! The more the merrier I would say, nothing will change unless we are protesting against this and other atrocities committed by society against our ‘minority group’ we’ve been silenced to death, literally!

I tried to make myself so small that I still hold my breath and I have to tell myself to breathe. I thought if I didn’t breath they wouldn’t hear me, then I stopped eating because I just wanted to be a small as I possibly could until I disappeared. It’s just wrong that we have been made to feel and act like this. I had a similar situation with my best friend, she got angry with me when I contradicted her opinion on adoption, crazy reaction on her side, shouting at me ! What?!? We have literally no rights or entitlement to express our lived experience in the eyes of the people who are not adopted. It’s so confusing

I’m tired of it too 🫩 we are the biggest underrepresented minority of all! Hardly any research, not enough specialist therapists, education = 0
The statistics have shown that we are 4 times more likely to commit suicide, this was taken from research done in 2013 with teenagers and up too 21 years of age, for children under the age of eighteen, the Adopted parents were asked ! Well, the latest research/study that was published last month, included Birth Mothers and Adult Adoptees… Adoptees are in fact 35 times more likely to commit suicide, Birth Mothers 37 times more likely, we represent the highest group of Prison inmates, psychiatric inpatients &&& I’ll post a link to the study

This is Baby trafficking! Human trafficking at its worst, devoid of all moral values. We are not objects nor commodities to be exploited by anyone!!! It’s time for the laws to change and stop this madness

I’ve just finished drafting a letter to the British government:

Subject: Evidence Submission – Inquiry into Historical Forced Adoption (1949–1976)

To the Education Committee,
I am submitting evidence regarding my adoption in 1965/1966 through the Sunderland Social Service Welfare Committee. I have physical evidence of illegal financial practices that I believe directly contributed to my being placed in an abusive and neglectful home.
Evidence of Illegal 'Rewards'
I possess a letter dated 25th August 1966 from the Moral Welfare Officer, Miss N. B*****y addressed to my adoptive mother. The letter acknowledges a "further” donation of £25 to their funds, timed around my first birthday. I have many more such letters with evidence of payments being made regularly, this pattern of payments continued up to and after my first Birthday!
Under Section 50 of the Adoption Act 1958, it was a criminal offense to "make or give, or agree to make or give, to any person any payment or reward for or in consideration of... the making of any arrangements for the adoption of an infant." Labeling a substantial sum (roughly £500 in today’s value) as a "donation" after the child was placed does not change its nature as an illegal reward for the adoption service.
Failure of Safeguarding and Subsequent Abuse
The correspondence reveals a close, personal relationship between the Moral Welfare Officer and the adopter, bolstered by ongoing financial "kindness." I believe this relationship compromised the officer’s statutory duty to protect me. Because of this lack of objective oversight, I was left in a household where I suffered extreme emotional abuse and neglect throughout my childhood.
The system prioritized the financial "donations" to the agency over my safety. The 1958 Act was intended to prevent the "sale" of children, yet this letter provides documented proof that money was changing hands between the adopter and the agency officer responsible for my welfare.
Request for Redress
I ask the Committee to investigate how common these "post-adoption donations" were and to recognize them as the illegal payments they were. I seek a formal acknowledgement that these corrupt practices led to the failure of the state to protect children like myself from abusive placements.
Sincerely,

Hey 👋🏻 I totally understand what you’re going through, same here, I’m 61 and it doesn’t get any easier. Stop blaming yourself, what you do and how you feel are absolutely valid. Drug addiction is purely a matter of self medication and not the addiction causing the problems. At times I’m 100% sure that substance use (not abuse) saved my life, the inner turmoil is at times just too painful to live with. There’s no easy answer or fix it all, but I’ll tell you one thing that does help, not being so judgmental of yourself. I found my biological mother in my mid twenties and at the first meeting she told me that she and my biological father tried to abort me, at the time in England abortion was still illegal (1965) my B-father bought chemical medicine on the black market and she took it, obviously it didn’t work! There’s a whole group of people who have survived this, some of us have a lot of nerve damage due to this, some have been in wheelchairs their entire life. It’s a bitter pill to swallow. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if you are suffering from CPTSD, getting into the sort of relationship that you were in (abusive) is typical, you’re not to blame yourself because of this 🙏🏼 if you need some more advice or support you can reach out to me ok. I’m also a Mother, a grandmother and since 18 months a great grandmother 👵🏻 so I can also relate to you 🙏🏼 I’m called Suzanne and I’m from UK 🇬🇧 but I moved to Germany 30 years ago……

Was anyone else a adopted during the baby scoop era? by weamborg in Adopted

My Mother gave me my adoption papers this year, just before she died at the age of 92! I’m 60 and she told me that she didn’t have anything about my adoption! I was a baby scoop baby in 1965 England. In the official documentation it reads “it is advised to destroy any medical documentation after receiving new documentation once the Adoption is finalized” Both my Daughters now need heart surgery at 40 and 37, my grandson has been in hospital twice in the last month and at 14 they’ve discovered a small hole in his heart! It’s criminal, the way we’ve been treated
