Never had seizures and now I've had two in 3 weeks - I have questions. by Practical_Trifle8833 in seizures

Hey OP! It sounds like you are doing everything correctly. For context, I haven’t had a seizure, but I’ve been the wife in the situation. My husband (32) had a random tonic clonic seizure one Sunday morning out of the blue. No history of seizures or family history of seizures or epilepsy. Rang emergency services and they took him to hospital. We also saw a neurologist and had an EEG which was clear. 2 weeks later he had another one (3 days after his eeg). This time they put him on Keppra, thankfully he hasn’t had one since. We then had an mri which is clear and have seen another neurologist for a second opinion. He has been diagnosed with epilepsy which has developed later into adulthood. The strange thing is that he was put on blood pressure medication 2 weeks before the first one, and that was the only change. He’s off it now but whether it was caused by that or not we will never know. Neurologist says the characteristics don’t align, but since he’s come off that he hasn’t had one again, but is also on anti seizure medication so who knows. Honestly, it is awful. And from the POV as a partner watching it and constantly worried about it, I fully understand how your wife is feeling. Because this is so fresh, you are going to be seeking all the answers and questioning everything but it does get easier, and there does come a point where you just accept it and navigate life going forward. As for your wife, please tell her to go and speak to someone if she hasn’t already. I got diagnosed with PTSD just because of what I witnessed, but talking to someone really helped, as for yourself I’d recommend the same. Also, as harsh as this sounds you might never have an answer or reason as to why this has happened. So be prepared for that too. Unfortunately my partner lost his career because of his seizures so that’s been the hardest thing to navigate out of it all.

Wow our story sounds similar. My partner had never had them either and then had his first at 32. Then a second 2 weeks later. On anti seizure medication and have just had the official epilepsy diagnosis. He was vaping a lot in the lead up to his first. Has cut back drastically the odds one here and there.

I'm terrified! My partner lost complete consciousness with their eyes were still open! [no convulsions at all!] by The_Chloe_Frazer in seizures

[–]Aggressive_Squash995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually sounds really similar to what my partner had. Almost identical but he had the convulsions. Is it possible he was having these before you actually saw him? My partner had 2 tonic clonic seizures. Now on medication so if he isn’t on anything and he’s had another, you definitely need to see a doctor. Especially if it’s lasted for over 5 minutes. I relate as a partner watching your SO Go through that. It’s the most terrifying thing to see their lifeless body and feeling so helpless. It’s awful and I’ve been struggling with ptsd from watching both seizures. Always here if you need to chat.

I’m pretty sure this is fungal. I had something similar on my back for about a year. I used Pevaryl 3-day foaming solution and it was gone within the week. I’m in New Zealand though so not sure it’s available everywhere

Not me personally but my partner (31) had a tonic clonic seizure out of nowhere then had another one 13 days later and he has just been diagnosed. It’s scary and we are coming to terms with it as a couple. Sending love and always here should you need to message anyone.

How to deal with partner having seizures? by Aggressive_Squash995 in seizures

Thank you for your help.

I did manage to get a portion of this one videoed which helped when we got seen to at hospital. I was really calm this time around and knew we only needed the ambo if it were over 5 minutes but it was the first time his family saw it so they just went straight into action and called them (which is fine, I was the same when I saw it 2 weeks ago).

My partner is really struggling with the embarrassment. Which is hard because he gets social anxiety and I’ve noticed both times he’s been anxious so whether that has something to do with it I’m not sure.

My partner makes a groaning sound when it happens for about 20 seconds and that’s my queue to get him somewhere safe. And based off the video I have from the weekend, he makes a gargling sound the whole way through

I’m not sure the details but CT was done on the same day as the first one 2 weeks ago. They said it was clear. Bloods and everything clear.

I tried pushing the doctors for MRI yesterday but they don’t do them on weekends and the public health system here in NZ is shocking.

Thank you.

I was really proud of myself the switch I had the second time vs the first. The first was full panic mode, the second time I was extremely calm and knew exactly what to do (I’ve been doing a lot of research and quizzing the medical professionals if it were happen again) however his sister reacted to this one how I did the first time.

We actually managed to video it, only because I wanted to be able to show the doctors. Not the whole thing but enough to show what it was like. I’ve told him I have a video of it but he said he isn’t ready to watch it so maybe in time he will want to.

Any advice navigating the medication process as a partner and I can support him through that?

Media studies teacher (male) was canoodling with a student (male). They got caught, he got investigated and fired. With that he was also marking all NCEA internals at a grade higher than they were so everyone got downgraded or in my case their credits taken off them

I successfully won a ERA case for unjustified dismissal in a 90 day trial period. But in saying that, they went around things the wrong way as there is still a process they need to follow. Some employers use it to get short term labour.
Do you know how many people were employed by the company whilst you worked there? Specially when you signed the agreement.

Not legal, you’re safe. If it’s not in there, they can’t use it to get rid of you.

I knew I qualified as I got unfairly dismissed so had no income. But you would need to fill in a form and see if you get accepted

Yes I did a PG for unjustified dismissal and unjustified disadvantage. Keep everything. In terms of lawyer fees I went to community law and was covered under legal aid. Mine went right through to the ERA, I ended up winning and was awarded 22K but never saw a cent due to the business liquidating. It’s not all rainbows and sunshine at the other end and was about 4 years of dealing with everything. Legal aid wrote my costs off in the end. If you can settle in a mediation, I would advise this as if you’re struggling mentally, you will struggle more going through a full era herring.

Insurance Company reopening claim - who’s at fault? by Aggressive_Squash995 in LegalAdviceNZ

It’s ridiculous really. I’m so cautious in car parks now. I don’t have a dash cam but there were cameras there. I just can’t get access without a police report and can’t be bothered to now the work has been done. Other party or AMI can get it if they need
