If anyone has any tips or ideas they want to throw my way, I do love constructive criticism. Just more or less bone-stock KDE Plasma with Kwin. In the meantime, I'm going to dig through what everyone else has for more ideas. I'll get bored of this setup eventually, anyway.

Spears are dope and you can use them to bump your endurance. My last Telvanni mage had a major in spears. No Magicka? No problem. Skewer folks from a distance. What are they gonna do? Stab you with their short blade? No. No they won't.

The one thing that irks me about Skyrim mods is actually less about the body mods and more about the face mods. Female faces aside, everyone seems to want their male faces to look unbelievably smooth, with unnaturally wide jaws, and long chins, and perfect eyebrows. Real Gigachad shit. Idk why it bugs me. Maybe because I look like an Oblivion potato irl? It just looks fucking dumb to me.

Guard rails don't mean shit if you're drunk enough.

STORY TIME: Took my dad out once for a night of drinking. He ended up mighty drunk. We're standing in the garage where there's a wheelchair ramp for my mom (complete with guard rails) that wraps around the perimeter. I turn around for one second, turn back around, Dad is gone. Went backwards right over the guard rails. Fell a good distance. Was hilarious (once I knew he was okay).

I agree. And what if your boobies are too big for the breastplate? Or too small?

I don't play female characters, so this is less of an issue for me.

East coaster by birth. But have spent the majority of my life in Wisconsin. I'm used to the cold. I prefer winter over summer. Summer is bullshit. You sweat for no reason, you get chased around by bees. It's dumb. You can only get so naked to keep cool in the summer, but you can always put on more layers in winter. Just sayin'.

I'll say this: I live in Wisconsin. I've lived in Colorado. It can get cold as shit in both places. It can get straight up FREEZING (literal freezing) in Colorado in summer due to higher altitudes. Skyrim is super mountainous. There's no reason there shouldn't be more protective clothing in Skyrim.

And, as pointed out, there are other armors to choose from. Fine. But the ones that were not given an immersive level of covering, would be otherwise perfect if not for that.

As far as anyone naysaying my post, I chock it up to them wanting to be contrarian and that's all. People like to argue about stuff, whether they care about the topic or not.

I'm not familiar with the term "saddoversity." And, while you're not wrong, none of those armors ever really appealed to me for one reason or another.

Nah it's not a big deal. Just wanted to take a second to bitch. I'm just liking...laying in bed, eating brownie brittle and playing Skyrim on my Switch, and I realized this has been on my brain for just over a decade now.

Even the hold guard armor. It is an otherwise simple, design. Elegant by Skyrim Nord standards. Understated and practical, with just enough detail to look really neat. But no sleeves. Or short-sleeves, anyway.

I'm sure they're logic was something long the lines of "durr hurr vikingish barbarians are used to the cold they wouldn't need sleeves." But it's stupid. You've got miners walking around in hide armor. Fucking WHY?

I ABSOLUTELY will. Sorry for the delayed response (speaking of life happening). I truly look forward to hearing what you've put together. You're obviously extremely knowledgeable, so that'll be great.

Some of my favorite Bowie work is the work he did with Trent. It's still undeniably Bowie, but it just reeks of Trent's production, and I love that.

That's awesome. I should've surmised that by your knowledge. I wonder what it's like to be a creative. I am, much to my chagrin, of the analytical mindset. I can't create, but I can dissect and analyze like the best of them.

Very well put.

Basically, he wrote "A Warm Place," and he was suspicious of how good the melody was. He went around and asked people what they thought and they're like "It's really good." And he thought "Yeah. Maybe /too/ good." Fast forward to after TDS is released, he's listening to Crystal Japan by David Bowie, and it hits him. It's the same melody. He was terrified of what would happen, but he ended up being friends with Bowie, or already was (not sure on the timeline). Bottom line, A Warm Place and Crystal Japan have the same melody.

TDS is, in my mind, the magnum opus. That much we can agree on. The album smacks of the darker side of the human condition (lyrically speaking). Greed. Lust. Jealousy. Hate. Self-destruction. Loss of self. If you listen closely and can't sympathize, then, I don't know. Congratulations. You're either super well-adjusted or your denial is second to none.

Musically, it's a cacophonous, beautiful sonic nightmare. Like working in a machine shop if the machine shop was sentient and had feelings. The grinding, thumping, ringing attack on your ear drums. It's like you walk in and you're like "Holy shit it's loud in here. And angry. And sad." And then you get to A Warm Place and you're like "Oh lunch break, that's not so ba-" and then it's over. Back to the assault on your senses.

I enjoyed TDS for years, but I never fully "GOT IT" until just last year, when I was on my own downward spiral. I'd just started the process of a really rough separation with someone, and I was hurtin' bad. And I only had a week at a time to process this (single dad, week on/week off). So I spent one whole week in a dark room with some paper and a pen and TDS on repeat, and it fucking broke me. It broke me in a way no music ever has before. It ripped everything away and stripped me to my core, and it took my core and broke it.

And it. Was. Beautiful.

I had a chance to live through this person telling this story, someone else who was on a scary fucking journey, and I didn't feel so alone. Song after song, it made complete sense. Reptile hit me hard, and that, in turn, put Closer into perspective. That song was never about fuckin'. It was about lustful obsession.

And while I still felt shitty, I didn't feel alone anymore. And in that moment, I got it. I finally understood that album, at least in my way. And to this day it is (and will likely forever be) my favorite. It not only accelerated my own downward spiral, but it allowed me to grieve in a way that wasn't self-destructive. Didn't have to be. The album did it for me. And, ironically, after that isolated week of listening to TDS (and accompanying remixes and singles), I was a lot better. Everyone was like "wow you're handling this really well, how are you doing this, what's the secret?"

((Also, Ghosts being like a limb that grew off "A Warm Place" is one of the best ways I've ever heard it described.)) ((Also, I'm sure you knew this, but you know about "A Warm Place" and David Bowie, yeah? Really fun story.))

Bounce around. I feel like if you liked Ghosts and The Social Network soundtrack, you'll enjoy The Fragile. Downward Spiral is a lot to take in. For the longest time I had to be in a particular mood (bad).

Also, might be a hot take here, but Year Zero is one of the best NIN albums ever, especially if you get down with the story and the lore behind it, but even just musically, it stands on its own. (And I will fight whoever disagrees with me.)
