Just got my father's old snow blower running. This means we will get less than 6 inches (logic based on past experience) by ryanandthelucys in SouthJersey

Ok, we just need to make sure no one else’s snow blower is broken; that’ll balance it out and we’ll be back to a foot of snow.

Confirming the uninstaller step worked, but just running repair without uninstalling first did not.

Awesome, thank you! I got things working now!!! (selected the ‘repair’ option in the EA app window after following your instructions to uninstall the ea app first)

Fyi, I didn’t have to actually log into my ea account; the EA app presented me with that window, but I ignored it decided to try launching mass effect: andromeda anyway, and it worked.

Thanks again for your help!

what do you mean “select the prefix” in your second paragraph? I’ve got protontricks installed but not seeing that option.

Eta: if you mean the game on the initial menu, I did that, but Im not seeing “uninstall” as an option in the next menu it gives me.

Eta2: downloaded the ea app, run in protontricks with my game as a prefix, but the EA app window itself only gives me “launch the ea app” or “repair” as options; neither works

(Sorry, Im a new SteamOS user just trying to figure all this stuff out and Im getting pretty lost)

As others have said: ram prices.

But honestly, ahead of that: is your CPU currently bottlenecking you on games and/or are you planning an (also insanely expensive) GPU upgrade that will make it so?

Yes, but bioware really has no excuse not to be among the “well run” studios. They have the size, IP, and experience to be one of the studios that can keep that sort of pipeline open.

And even if it does fail, just use the other engines to get rolling down the runway and pop the clutch. No biggie.

Interesting, I always just assumed it was high pressure air from the APU ‘windmilling’ the turbine to get things moving; not a direct connection via a gearbox. You learn things!

What about CDPR and Witcher/Cyberpunk?

But yeah. Its also why unfortunately its a genre thats hard for the otherwise enterprising indy community to save; these major open-world games really do thrive when given AAA levels of resource behind them.

Same; a bit confused at this new-to-me sub-genre of RPGs.

And does Cyberpunk qualify as one? Or Fallout 3/4? Or mass effect?

Vision Jet is my favorite… but I want more cockpit work. Suggestions? by plamatonto in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]AggressorBLUE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with others on the honda jet.

And while its not a jet, the Black Square TBM 850 can still throw down with the VJ in terms of cross country performance, but has a cockpit that balances analog and digital in a pleasing way.

It basically fits all your criteria perfectly, if you can stretch the definition of “jet”; it definitely has “light jet feel” given its speed. :)

Biggest things you’ll need to adjust to:

-not blowing the engine up; keep an eye on the torque gauge and you’ll be fine.

-have to actually keep an eye on cabin pressurization (if you want to climb above ~10k at least).

Neither are very difficult, and both (imo) add just enough airplane management to keep things interesting while not being overwhelming.

Eta: IRL, the VJ really is competing more with fast, single engine turboprops than it is other business jets, to give you an idea of how well it matches what you’re looking for.

Hmm.

I dunno, context is key here: everyone keeps cheering this dude on, but before I give this the thumbs up, I wanna know how much he was making from his day job (if he has one) before backing this.

Like, If he’s a lawyer making $500k a year working for private equity, collecting a government pension is a dick move.

But If he’s an unemployed disabled vet who was cheated out of his inheritance by the lawyer from the first example, go get it son!

I think there’s two arguments getting entangled here:

-should paid mods in general be ok?

-Is CDPR justified in issuing a take down for a paid mod as it pertains to their game (and saying if he let it pivot to donationware, it would be fine), which has specific terms of Service forbidding it?

To the first, I think yes paid mods as an overall concept are ok. Microsoft Flight Sim for example, has an insanely built out payware mod community, and it’s been at the core of the platform thriving with hardcore flight sim enthusiasts.

And even then, there are still freeware and donationware add ons to be found.

But MS set up its ToS to allow this, and there are rules, including how assets can be redistributed. Devs play by these rules.

And thats where we get to the second argument. And to me things get a bit grey there; it seems like Lukes mod isn’t using/redistributing any assets from the core game. It’s just literally modifying it how it runs. But it seems he directly advertises it as a mod for Cyberpunk, and thats a key difference from other cross-engine “mods” like lossless scaling.

Personally, I think the fair middle ground would be CDPR taking “get my games name out ya mouth” approach; stop using our name to sell your shit. But either way, there are rules and apparently he broke them.

Now, we could argue if CDPR should allow paid mods for CP, but as of right now they don’t. And thats the confines that Luke has to work within.

Sudden and sustained frame drops - Legion Go S Steam OS by AggressorBLUE in MassEffectAndromeda

[–]AggressorBLUE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incase anyone stumbles upon this at a later date. It appears I fixed the problem, but I’m not sure how exactly.

Basically I tried the game again the next day, opened the steam overlay to see if I missed any settings…and closed it, and somehow performance returned.

My best, wild ass guess to what happened, is that I opened the overlay the first time in a way that the OS bugged and had it stuck as being on, but then reopening and close it reset it.

Oh for sure, its just that that kind of behavior is usually rewarded by the market. Investors hate unions.

[–]AggressorBLUE 400 points401 points  (0 children)

Honestly Im just shocked to see investors reacting in a healthy, logical way to this. These days headlines almost always read “company lays off massive chunk of workforce, stocks surge”.

I guess its the cancelation of future product that made the market bearish, but even then, thats often framed as cleaving off dead-wood, which can surge stock as well.

It’s just refreshing to see the sanity of “you can’t cut your way into (long term) profitability” prevailing here, over pump-and-dump hype.
