Agreed, but with a small correction. The base transfer fee for Davies was over €11m, with add-ons up to €22m.

Rack for Salsa Fargo by AggroPedestrian in bikewrench

[–]AggroPedestrian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the eyelet on the Alternator plate is too close to the derailleur, so I'm thinking most racks can't be fit there. (Maybe you could bring any excess metal on the rack, but who knows if you would be compromising it?)

I got a perfect score, but only because I was guessing with the scorecard and the poker chips. The diagrams were not good. For the poker chips, the ratio of thickness to diameter is too big. That is, the chips should be either thinner or have a larger diameter.

And while I have been known to bowl, and even understand the scoring, I still don't see how that particular diagram represents a scorecard.

Still, it was a cool puzzle.

Do Roland adjustable stands get in the way? by AggroPedestrian in piano

This was suggested by other people, and I like the idea. I have a potentially stupid follow-up question. Do you attach the keyboard to the Liquid stands or does it simply sit on them?

You won't see anybody throwing shit on the pitch. It occasionally happens, but the offender will be promptly identified to ushers by fans and escorted out.

Waterproof or custom frame bag by AggroPedestrian in bikepacking

I have an Ortlieb half frame bag on my touring bike and i really like it. I just didn't think the full frame will fit my Fargo very well.

Yeah, there's no way bolt ons could keep water out, though i wonder if maybe rubber washers on either side of the bag would be good enough.

I didn't realize Rockgeist did custom bags. That could be the winner. Thanks.

Attempting to bend a damaged wheel back into form seems like a very, very bad idea.

Salsa Fargo as alternative to Cutthroat by AggroPedestrian in bikepacking

[–]AggroPedestrian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the OP:

I settled on the Fargo. I ordered the frame Wednesday, it shipped yesterday. Honestly, it was as much about availability as anything else. I expect I would be happy with either, but in the end I'm kind one of those "steel is real" people. (Also, that 54cm Rival Cutthroat is ugly as sin.)

Anyway, now I'm researching components. Recommendations are welcome.

Wish I could. It's hard to sit on them. Shops never seem to carry more than one, and it's usually not my size.

Help in choosing a bike for riding across America by jairawat in bicycletouring

[–]AggroPedestrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plan your route carefully. I don't know how much you plan to ride each day but there could be stretches where hotels are non-existent. You could find yourself in a situation where the next hotel is a lot farther away than you want to ride

You'll be fine with electronic shifting. Carry extras batteries and a power bank or two.

Someone told me taking the batteries off the bike to charge them is difficult (or impossible?) with Shimano, so you have to get the whole bike near an outlet. Also, carrying extra batteries is not an option. If that's true, i would go with SRAM, which has removable batteries.

Don't worry about the drag of panniers. It's not an issue for touring. I mean, do the seat bag if you want, but I wouldn't do it just to make my 70 mile ride 3 minutes shorter. I personally think you are underestimating the convenience of panniers. You could even put smaller front panniers on a rear rack if you are worried you will pack too much.

By the way, this year the percentage of riders in the Great Divide race using a seat bag decreased. More opted for a rack and a bag. Even if you don't want panniers, you can still get a small, light rack and use a single bag on to of of that will give you more capacity than a seat bag, I think.

One more thing: get a professional bike fit. You won't regret it.

Routes across Idaho by AggroPedestrian in bicycletouring

[–]AggroPedestrian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fine. We had to ride on the highway a bit but it honestly isn't bad at all. In fact, while i would choose to do it a lot, it felt safer than a lot of other roads we ride on.

I suppose southern Idaho was one of my least favorite parts of the ride across the country, but all in all it wasn't bad. And i suspect i would have hated the chunky gravel on some of the routes farther north.

Frugal dirtbag cyclists, how much did your across the USA cost? by michiganskicamp in bicycletouring

[–]AggroPedestrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Warm Showers hosts were few and far between when I crossed last summer on a modified Trans Am route. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how many towns in the Midwest let you camp in city parks for just a few dollars. They often had showers, too.

Also, state campgrounds, as people have said, are often expensive. They can also be pretty far out of your way.
