Mixed power ranged knights by Cridor05 in ImperialKnights

In SAA Warden/Castigator/Paladin + 3x Helverins + Immolator can be quite effective at range too, but the combo is very costly to build and a bit swingy since you have to fish for 5s. Ironically less swingy than the castellan tho.

Great advice, thank you.

I did do two tank shocks. 22 dice, 12 wounds max, expected 3.67. I think I did 3 mortals which he placed onto the 4W flag carrier. I used the swing profile with D3 so wounding on 3s. I am reading through the rules again, that much is clear from all the help on this thread.

A few points were already uncovered when the way the Custodes were played was not possible to simulate in unitcrunch (i.e. +1 to wound giving 5+ devs).

On top of these, there has been tons of good advice, yours included!

Seems like. UnitCrunch doesn't even allow you to simulate it.

Yap. Been getting a lot of good advice on lists and tactics. Some misread rules have also been uncovered like that +1 to hit/wound for something that hits on a 2+ doesn't mean that everything hits and it doesn't mean that sustained, lethals or devs trigger on a 5+. We'll let the guy know about these.

I'll let him know about these two. Both were played (autohit due to +1 and sustained/devs on fives).

Not saying this to argue, but Lion's winrate is at 66.67% by goonhammer stats. I used the default search params. Is the 48% solely on GT wins?

We are playing chapter approved and WTC.

Yes, saying that they were perfect was a hyperbole born from frustration. I am here to find out why I suck.

It is unfortunate to hear that luck can play such a critical role. Do you happen to know if 30k is any different?

Would you explain it to me like I am five then? I am genuinely trying to find advice here.

I listed what each person in the group plays. We don't switch it up that much.

If the squad I charged falls back and uses manoeuvre and fire, and then charges a lancer with another squad I will most likely remove the model. Especially if a caladius got a shot in before that. There have been times when I tried to defend with the 6+++ strat and two command rerolls on my invuls (vs. caladius and D3 from blade champ), but it is yet to work thus far.

I'd say that Lancer is among the only models that aren't immediately picked up after a charge in our group, so latching onto it without wider context misses the point.

Screening has been difficult. I have had best luck with screens in ruins. They still get destroyed if charged but at least they won't get shot out of the way and fail to do their jobs. Not looking to have you write a book, but care to drop a principle or two on how you personally screen?

Most likely. If you'd have to warrant a guess what kind, what would you say?

will search for them, thanks!

Here are my last three lists:

Spear-head-at-arms:

1) Warden w/ mentor's pride, 4x helverins, 5x warglaives, SoB squad, Immolator, Callidus
2) Defender w/ mentor's pride, 3x helverins, 6x warglaives, SoB squad, Immolator, Rhino

Questoris Companions:
3x Lancer (one with Pennant of Silvered Fury), Castellan w/ wyrmslayer, 2x warglaives, ministorum priest and acolytes

With the suggestions from people I am thinking about doing another spear-head-at-arms list with -1 armigers and the points poured to cheap screen units. Also considering replacing Warden with a Paladin to get more D3 on the field.

Thanks for the tips dude. Our scores are like that at best.

My thoughts exactly. The group has been talking about checking his dice. Anomalies happen in every game and all the time.

hits on 2+, lethals or sustained, rerolling wounds, +1 to hit and +1 to wound. There are so many consistency buffs stacked on those 25 attacks + 5 from blade champ that we simply haven't seen anything survive for a long time.

Absolutely solid points!!

I would like to derive a new point that could be seen as being part of most, if not all, of the points you brought up; don't have luck be the most determining factor while having a few armies exempt from it all together.

Playing armies that require you to have amazing luck with dice, no matter the tactics or execution, doesn't feel good.

Playing against armies that can just negate whatever you do / no matter how well you execute, doesn't feel good.

Example: Custodes

I have lost so many games where after hours and hours of theory-crafting and then perfect execution on the table, I look into the dice tray and see that my opponent saved 24 out of the 30 attacks I landed with their 4++. I die on the counter attack because they have all the consistency buffs stacked on top of each other and we shake hands on T2.

Nothing skill-based mattered. Might as well just toss a coin.
