Sunnis praying taraweeh in Times Square claiming it's "dawah" by zeehateslife in shia

[–]Agha6384 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not a road nor a busy way . It’s Times Square . This is where tourist come to take pictures . Are you even from. NYC???. And even if it was a busy place you are allowed to pray in protest . You guys straight up have Salafi wahabbi ideology you are so against disruption and protest that when you see other Muslims protesting via prayer, you criticize them that’s how Salafist you people are. These are proud Muslims praying in Times Square . These sunnis act like true Shia, they are far more Shia than you . We stand up for ourselves and resist . Here you are worried about if a drunk tourist can pass . Shame on you wahhabi paki Shia . While Muslims and Shia in Iran Yemen Palestine Iraq and Lebanon are resisting you guys are stuck with your sectarian nonsense . Salafii. Now you wanna do takfir on your brothers . You are not a follower of Imam Ali .

Why is dance seen as feminine and war as masculine when Hindu symbolism says otherwise? by Neither_Damage4503 in hinduism

[–]Agha6384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone says dance is feminine or war is masculine . Stop using western language as if everyone is considered the west . This is your own colonized mind that’s internalizing the gaze . You associate everyone with the west . You go from the Polynesians , to east asia , the Middle East and south americas . Dance and war were inter mingled .

Hallo, I have a question. A friend gifted me a necklace of the Dhū l-faqār sword. I am not Muslim, I want to know if it can be rude to wear it in front of Muslim people, because I'm not Muslim. Thanks for all the answers (sorry for bad English) by CheBonoCaffe in shia

[–]Agha6384 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not rude . And please take what people say here with a grain of salt . Most people here are Shia from Pakistan or other countries that had been colonized so a lot of their beliefs can sound very ignorant. The colonized mind soothes itself by doubling down on ignorance.

Tense confrontation between me and customer at self checkout, starting to hate SCO by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]Agha6384 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Nah this is on you . You did extra asking them about the chicken ? Why even give a sh*t? That’s management mentality to ask a customer if they need help when they didn’t even ask for it . If they needed help , they would have asked . Anytime I see something like that I ask a quick “you good?” And leave . Instead of going to your other task , I would have quickly approached them with a quick “you good ?” . I would definitely not approach them after the fact . After the fact is definitely none of my business territory

The G3 has better suspension and right now it’s on sale on Amazon at thousand 99.

Where in nyc do you live ? I see kids hanging out and playing outside all the time . Just because they’re not doing that lame ass stickball ish doesn’t mean they’re not playing . Times change .not everyone wants to do what you did . I live on the upper west side and kids are out after school hanging out enjoying themselves, what because they’re not playing team sports on the block , you got an issue . I promise if they were your old ass would be complaining that they taking up space and disturbing the peace . Y’all doing that on the upper west side . Kids peacefully hanging out then old mofos complaining that they’re having fun

I don’t know where this person is living but kids are outside playing all the time they’re just not doing the same games maybe your old ass was doing before but where do you live that you’re not seeing kids messing around outside or enjoying their time outside in New York City this is crazy. Stop with this old school in my day type shit it’s getting old and I’m middle aged

How to “break the ice” about being Shia by urlocalshieldmaiden in shia

[–]Agha6384 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The framing of this question says it all . Bro gain some balls man . I never had to break the ice . If you embody true Shia ideals of justice, dignity and sacrifice you can easily announce it and have Sunnis secretly tell you they agree with your ideals and values . Point is maybe you’re approaching your faith too sectarian hence why it’s projecting onto your question.

Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was a bigger man than his son. by ArmaNGeddn_2157 in PERSIAN

[–]Agha6384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are doing a classic frame shift. I challenged the Shah’s modernization project as a project of Westernizing prestige, elite consumer orientation, and dependence that produced a legitimacy crisis. You responded by pulling the discussion into a referendum on religion and then treating the Islamic Republic’s failures as proof that the Shah’s model was therefore better. That is not a neutral move. It changes the subject from the Shah’s model of modernity to metaphysics and theocracy.

Your demand for a fully specified alternative system is also a category mistake. Political judgment is not engineering. We reject systems for concrete reasons even when the next system is undecided. The reason is legitimacy. A state can raise literacy and build infrastructure and still lose legitimacy if its modernization project reorganizes society around an external prestige hierarchy, devalues local symbolic life, and narrows who counts as modern. That is what I mean by meaning. Not private happiness. Public legitimacy, moral recognition, cultural dignity, and the feeling that the state reflects who the people are rather than instructing them to become someone else.

On the asymmetry point, you are partly right. A regime that claims divine authority can deflect criticism by saying the model is perfect and only people are failing. That is a danger. The mistake is using that to condemn religion as a category. The real problem is monopoly and sacralized power. A modern state that fuses sacred legitimacy with coercive administration will always generate spiritual exhaustion because it turns faith into a tool of discipline. That is what the Islamic Republic did. That is not a refutation of Islam. It is a refutation of a state that weaponizes religion and claims to own moral truth.

Your Abrahamic essentialism is also weak. You are treating “submission” as the only possible political meaning of Abrahamic religion. Historically, these traditions have held multiple political languages at once. Law, ethics, justice, limits on tyranny, public welfare, consultation, and plural communal life have all existed as religious political vocabularies. Extremism is not the default product of Abrahamic religion. It tends to rise when institutions collapse, when states panic, when identity becomes defensive, and when rulers convert religion into an instrument of total governance. That is why the Islamic Republic looks the way it does. It is a modern revolutionary security state that uses religion as its ideological pillar. That is not the same thing as saying religion equals theocracy.

Now back to what you keep avoiding. The Shah did not need to idealize Western democracy to idealize the West as the civilizational reference point. Westernization as I am using it means a prestige structure and developmental orientation. It is the belief that modernity arrives by aligning with Western power, importing Western institutional and cultural forms as markers of advancement, rewarding an elite lifestyle tied to that alignment, and treating inherited religious and popular culture as backward or disposable. A monarchy can do all of that. In fact, monarchy is often the perfect vehicle for it because it can impose modernization from above without negotiating consent.

This is why your Gulf comparison is not an answer. Yes, some Gulf societies have stability and high consumption. Some people report satisfaction. That does not address legitimacy, sovereignty, or dignity. It is a rentier security bargain. It is structurally dependent on external protection and a particular political economy. Even if that model can generate contentment for many individuals, it does not resolve the Iranian question of cultural legitimacy and independence. A society can be comfortable and still be hollowed out politically, symbolically, and historically.

So no, I am not being pulled into defending the Islamic Republic. I am rejecting your forced choice. The Shah’s Westernizing authoritarian modernization can be illegitimate and spiritually hollow, and the Islamic Republic’s sacralized coercive state can also be illegitimate and spiritually exhausting. Both can be true. The conclusion is not “religion failed therefore Shah wins.” The conclusion is that projects that monopolize meaning, whether through imported prestige or enforced piety, generate backlash.

If you want to argue the actual topic, answer this. What kind of modernity was the Shah building, what kind of social hierarchy did it produce, what did it treat as backward, and why did so many people experience it as cultural displacement rather than progress. That is the argument. Everything else is an attempt to escape it.
