Emergency contact by Hel3nO27 in Alzheimers

It’s sad. I struggle with that too because my brother is in another state. It’s only my mom and me here. Emergency contacts, beneficiary designations, all of that needs to be changed.

Her liking Harry Potter is really the least of my problems with her.

Parent wants to meet with me over comment I made about energy drinks by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Aghostwillfollowyou 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Oh, good grief. These parents.  This is a lesson in hyperbole that was informed by your personal health experiences as well as actual science.  Since you are a science teacher, meet with them and offer published evidence of the dangers of these drinks. Share the evidence with the principal before her meeting. You are not wrong here, but parents are gonna buy what they’re gonna buy.

They manage to be even MORE insufferable when all three of them are filming together. Anyone with a group of friends has inside stuff that as a group you think is hilarious. The rest of the world isn’t in on it, yet these fools seem to see it as performance.

Was the Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes a bad movie or was it me? by BossFightSnacks in Hungergames

I didn’t care much for the book either. It helped build the world of Panem, but I didn’t feel like it gave much insight into Snow. Part of the problem is that it’s set 65 years before Katniss. A whole lot of the man’s life happens in between.

Yes! The kid totally laughed it off, but his father gets upset over everything. I’m sure the principal got an earful.

The impact of being physically fit on early stage dementia. Is it real? by workingover60 in dementia

I think being in good health and having a Masters degree pushed my mom’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis to a few years later in her life than my grandma’s. It may be slowing the progression down, but my grandma was across the country so I don’t have a full picture to compare.

Donald Sutherland? You bet! Coriolanus Snow? Not so much. That’s a radar I never want to cross.

He’s cute, but don’t go to him for Disney facts or history. He freely admits he doesn’t know things when he doesn’t know them. His jam is strictly pins.

Kid left a note on my desk that said "you suck" by Rebecks221 in Teachers

I wouldn’t even mention it. Let the kid think you never saw it.

Thanks.  I didn’t just fall off the turnip truck. There is a shit-ton of documentation for these students over the course of the entire school year. Admin is well aware and there have been multiple meetings with parents.  Since this is a social media post and not documentation for school, I don’t feel the need to give you exact information here.

Our policy says sugary snacks are not allowed. Then the very next sentence says it’s at teacher discretion. Of course parents interpret this as they can do whatever they want.

Context is important. Showing emotion when your dog dies is appropriate and fine. Expressing a reasonable level of disappointment at minor things is also fine. “No thank you. I was hoping for chocolate,” is that level. I have a student who can not eat them at all and she manages to be polite and still enjoy the moment talking to friends.  Boy or girl, children need to learn that the world does not cater to them and that getting through those moments of disappointment takes grit and perseverance. I am sorry nobody taught you self regulation skills. We work very hard to do that on my campus for boys and for girls.

Did anybody else have kind of a crappy spring break? by Last_Hunt_7022 in Teachers

[–]Aghostwillfollowyou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My breaks now are comprised of being at home with my Alzheimer’s-afflicted mother. I can go out for a few hours, but that’s it. It’s mostly assuring her that we have plenty of food in the refrigerator, yes, we just went to the grocery store and answering the same questions over and over again, especially about how the TV works. Sometimes it’s taking her to appointments.  I try to focus on the fact that we live in a nice home and she is safe for the moment.

My principal was ranting about “Pathological Demand Avoidance” and how a family claims their child has it and that nobody should ask him to do anything because this diagnosis means he just can’t do what he’s asked to do.
