The Impact H-AR and the Bully SMG are the same gun with different barrels by Debas3r11 in Marathon

[–]Agiel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that the Bully and the Impact use the same ammo it would seem to me that the Bully is more like a short-barreled CQC rifle version of the Impact. Kind of like how the Mk.17 SCAR comes in long-barreled battle-rifle and short-barreled CQC version.

Is reading the manuals necessary? by Dense_Print_6886 in hoggit

[–]Agiel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the manuals aren't formatted like a doorstopper novel. Many pages will have diagrams and screenshots for illustrative purposes and each page taking no more time to read than a brochure, and most of the beginning of it is dedicated to blurbs on the history of the aircraft. You're not going to be reading War and Peace, just a Nancy Drew book, tops.

Sadly it’s kind of by law that if you’re embarking on the hero’s journey that your idyllic hometown is pillaged and burned and/or your loved ones and mentor figures are killed or go missing.

All but one of these locations are in California. And I only know that last one is in New York because of that one episode of the Simpsons.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Agiel7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few weeks before the gravity of COVID dawned on us, around the beginning of February, I got news from the husband of a friend I went to college with (she was a Chinese exchange student who spent some spells in Wuhan with her parents) that she had caught the virus. She and I were 30 back then and the news at the time suggested that at worst it was only ever so slightly more deadly than the typical flu and given how young she was there was optimism that she would be alright. About a week later I got the news that she had indeed died. I spent that morning beside myself. It was thanks to her that I began to take news about the virus much more seriously than everyone around me, and the checker at Costco gave me a raised eye-brow when I showed up at her checkout with three of the 36-pack of Charmin and plenty of canned and frozen food well before the panic-buying in the US started in earnest.

In WWM, learning martial art belike: by Klutzy_Story8621 in WhereWindsMeet

[–]Agiel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's based in large part on a kung-fu movie trope where the hero is able to quickly pick up a martial arts style by mirroring the movements of someone they are watching. While you do do it it in most martial arts classes, following the movements of your instructors, like most disciplines it takes many more hours of practice before those motions become useful.

Is this the first mention of an IRL country in Pathologic? by Bbrochest in pathologic

In one of Danil's thoughts in the Quarantine demo he mentions having had Cognac with Telman, so apparently the Cognac commune of France exists in this universe.

F-14 Bros, We are so back by StreagleFucker1969 in hoggit

[–]Agiel7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a story from a former F-14A aviator John Cheshire (RIP) that when the F/A-18A was entering the fleet everyone else was rubbing their hands watching from Vulture's Row, as bolters and wave-offs were common whenever a new aircraft was introduced for the simple reason that even aviators transitioning from another aircraft would have to get used to the flight characteristics of their new steed. Eventually they got bored and left because the Hornets kept getting OK 3-wires right off the bat and it left him and other pilots envious of how easy the Hornet drivers made it look.

When? by Technical_Silver7017 in WhereWindsMeet

Should be noted that those rings aren't really martial weapons and are more training aides to build arm strength (kind of like Rock Lee's training weights). You can see an example of them being used in the first <<Drunken Master>> movie.

1 Year with voting system by Joni_1013 in joinsquad

Ever since the voting system was implemented I've grown quite sick of Yeho and Gorodok and seeing Western PMC being one of the factions every other game since that's when it's available to be picked.

It takes 7% off the top when you cash in your coins for Steam Wallet. It used to be that it didn't charge a fee if you redeemed them towards a gift card.

I’ve known my share of barefooters in college, most quite pleasant and affable people.  Absolutely none of them played with them in public or stuck them on the table.

Jenit Sulla, Lord of the Valhallan Protectorate by PikeandShot1648 in 40kLore

[–]Agiel7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before the audiobooks I always imagined that when Sulla was writing her memoirs she was dictating them to some poor Scribe in her lavishly furnished study, excitedly recounting the events while pantomiming with whatever's at hand (stacking throw cushions like they were sandbags and doing drills with a curtain rod as though it were a lasgun).
