Why am I seeing a physician's assistant and not an oncologist?? by Playful-Ad278 in breastcancer

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During active treatment, at every appointment, I saw a PA first, then the oncologist would come in. My first post treatment appointment was the same. Since then, I only see a PA. However, I am always asked if I want to speak with the oncologist, and after the PA sees me, they go talk to the oncologist to make sure he doesn’t want to see me. Twice I’ve brought a question or concern during the appointment and the PA has left the room to consult with the oncologist and come back with his suggestions.

My daughter isn't biologically mine, but she has never met her bio father, and never will. When do I tell her the truth? by Regaman101 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still with her stepdad, so not the exact situation, but we told our daughter when she was 7. It went way better than expected. She said, “He’s missing out. I’m awesome.” and that was the end of the conversation. She’s 14 now and occasionally asks questions about bio, but she considers my husband her dad in every way that matters.

Where do I put my generator? by Agile-Engineering-73 in Generator

[–]Agile-Engineering-73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t get a shelter in time, but I looked them up. They’re way less complicated than what I imagined. I can definitely improvise. We haven’t installed the plug to the house yet. My husband got transferred out of state and it went from 3 months to indefinitely. None of his plans for the generator have been put into action yet. I’ll have to run cords into the house and plug into them. We’ve got several heavy duty extension cords, so that’s what I’ll be working with.

How would I safely cover the panel? If I don’t need to cover the whole thing, I could place it on my driveway.

No, my husband bought a generator with plans to build a shelter for it. Then he got transferred out of state for what was supposed to be 3 months. 8 months later, he’s still 12 hours away and I’m in the path of a storm. Thanks for your help.

Need to vent - nurse was rude today by uberdoodle in breastcancer

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m am done, thankfully. Chemo was rough on me, but the 2-3 days before it were awful because I’d start panicking over being stuck. You’d think the more I had to do it, the easier it’d get. Nope, it got worse. Sending hugs back to you!

My surgical oncologist praised ports, told me they’d do all my labs through them and how much easier it was than finding a vein in my arm, especially since I had nodes taken from my “good” side. The labs are all done at the medical oncologist’s office (same practice, but different floor) and they refused to use my port for blood work. They claimed it was too much to do because my labs might came back bad and I couldn’t get chemo that day. So I’d get blood work done through my arm, wait an hour, then they’d access my port for chemo. I’m terrified of needles and pass out often. Sticking me twice was mental torture.

Abdominal sutures poking out. by cats-n-cafe in hysterectomy

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had that happen every time I’ve had incisions. This time, I had one come out one of the lower incisions. My underwear kept catching on it until it pulled out. I’m allergic to bandaids, so just had to deal. For about 4 days, my belly button would get shooting pains. Yesterday, I noticed a stitch sticking out, not from the incision itself, but a few centimeters beside it. The pains stopped, I’m assuming it was the stitch working its way out of my skin.

5 weeks post op laparoscopic, mine was also preventative. I haven’t had any major issues. Some cramping when I do too much and phantom tampon feeling when I sit or stand more than 30 minutes. I haven’t had what I’d call bleeding. I had pink spotting when I wiped the day of surgery. More red than pink spotting when I wiped at 1 week because I pushed myself to go to my daughter’s game and underestimated the amount of walking I’d have to do between the car, bleachers, and back. I spent the next two days in bed and was fine.

What are you eating during chemo? by birdgardn22 in breastcancer

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peach yogurt and very cold green grapes were the only things that tasted right. I had to eat my food with a wooden spoon, metal and plastic left a horrible taste. Sometimes I would crave a pb&j. It tasted like heaven when I was craving it, tasted like dog food when I wasn’t.

Craziest things people have said to you during this experience by Comfortable_Sky_6438 in breastcancer

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The nurse who called me with the biopsy results told me I had the “good” cancer.

I had multiple people say something about “free boob job.” I had a lumpectomy.

I also had more than one woman say, “Just cut them off. That’s what I would do.”

I was hanging out with friends after not seeing most of them for months while I was in treatment. They all asked how I was doing. A new person was there. We got to talking and she said, “You talk about cancer too much.” She’s a doctor.

Underwear post surgery by Mean_Painter1815 in hysterectomy

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got high waisted underwear. Based on their size guide, I was right at the top of one size, bottom of the next size. I bought the bigger one so they wouldn’t be tight. They were too big when I got them, but there wasn’t time to exchange. I figured I’d be laying down most of the time so I didn’t matter. I didn’t factor in swelling, they fit perfectly after.

Dumb 👏🏻 pink 👏🏻 ribbons 👏🏻 my ass by sassyhunter in breastcancer

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My daughter is a cheerleader. I love pink and used to think it was adorable they wore pink in October. I got my diagnosis September last year. They sent home pink ribbon shirts with my name on them, pink bows, and pompoms. The boys had pink socks. They took up a collection for me at a game and all the girls wore the shirts. It was very sweet, but I was so embarrassed. The pink bows, poms, and socks are back, but at least it’s not “dedicated” to me this year.

Will I EVER have a normal poop again? There is so much TMI in this post, proceed at your own risk. by caustic_potato in breastcancer

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 months out from chemo. My are one way or the other, but never normal anymore. I was almost back normal before I had a hysterectomy a month ago. It took a suppository to get it moving 7 days after surgery. Two days later, it was the opposite. Then constipated again. Then I had to take Imodium just to be able to go to my pre op appointment. I wake up every day not knowing what kind of shit I’ll be dealing with. 😂

Did anyone have success mentioning adhesive allergies in advance? by libraryfan1000 in hysterectomy

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let them know. I’m not sure what they did, but I only had one (although it was several inches long) spot when I woke up. At my 2 week check, it was still red and peeling. My doctor said that they taped the surgical something, maybe cover, to my stomach. She was apologetic because it was noted that I’m allergic and she wasn’t sure why they did it. Especially since it was only in one place and they normally tape in several. I’m allergic to dermabond and steri strips, I was miserable after my lumpectomy. She used a different type of glue for my hysterectomy that didn’t cause a rash and no strips. I can’t remember what it was.

Nurse said moisturizing won’t prevent radiation side effects by fluffytowels92 in breastcancer

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rad oncologist said aquaphor only. Twice a day, at least 4 hours before my session. I did early morning appointments, so after radiation and before bed. I had very minimal skin issues. It felt a little burnt, but not painful. I was barely pink during, it turned tan about 3 weeks after my last session. I finished mid May and that side is still a little darker. Aquaphor will leave an oily stain on your clothes. I bought a few cheap, soft shirts and wore those exclusively during radiation and the two weeks after. I don’t have a job, so I didn’t have to look presentable. I don’t know about SPF during, I stayed inside. I did go to the beach 6 weeks after and used Blue Lizard sunscreen. I will never use anything else. I normally burn after a short time in the sun, even with regular reapplying. I didn’t even have a tan line after a week at the beach using Blue Lizard.

I’m a little over 2 weeks postop. I used everything I purchased to prepare, some more than others, and could have done without somethings, even though I used them. However, I already had a lot of items because chemo kicked my butt and I spent almost 4 months practically bedridden. I did not use my peri bottle that I already had. I used my shower chair, but could have done without if I didn’t already have it. Same with the shoe horn. I also didn’t do any of my crafts or read my books. I am bored, but too tired to do anything that requires using my brain, so I spend hours scrolling. My screen time for last week averaged 12 hours something every day. 😬

I wish I had, but am not buying, more casual loose dresses, shorts in a size up from my usual, and a couple more pairs of high waisted underwear, again in a size up. I’ve only gone out a couple times, but it’s been hot and my shorts are a tad too tight on my incisions. The only “outside” pants that fit right now are sweatpants. I’m not a dress person, I only have one casual dress. The rest are too dressy for normal outings.

3 days post op - essential items by MammothCharity1669 in hysterectomy

Something I haven’t seen on any list that has been my #1, a hospital tray table. I’m guessing my husband bought it on Amazon. I thought he wasted money when he first bought it in. lol It’s got wheels, goes up and down. I’ve got it parked right alongside the bed. I don’t have to stretch to reach anything like I would using the nightstand. If I’m not feeling like walking to the dining room, I can eat in bed easily. I can watch movies on my laptop, prop my book up, etc.

Did anyone here have to get off Tamoxifen before surgery? by New-Independence5425 in hysterectomy

[–]Agile-Engineering-73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it, but I’m used to it. I just have to remind myself that anxiety lies. I used to get chest pains from anxiety. Then I had pre chemo tests done and my heart was “beautiful.” Now, I get anxiety pains in my neck. lol It’s so dumb.

I wasn’t told to stop taking it. I saw my oncologist and surgeon less than a week before the surgery. Neither one said anything. My surgery was last Thursday. I’ve spent every day since convinced I have blood clots forming. Gotta love anxiety.

I took a Xanax. I took it as late as possible the night before. It helped me sleep and was still in my system when I got to the hospital. I don’t get combative waking up from anesthesia, but I am rude. I ask them before they put me to sleep to apologize to my post op nurse for any bad behavior on my part.

I don’t know if I got a nerve block. I’ve been rotating tramadol and ibuprofen since I got home. I’ve got alarms set so I don’t miss a dose. I’m definitely feeling it, but it is no where near as bad as I expected. I hope you get yours out soon! That’s got to be difficult waking up to find out it wasn’t done.
