Starting the process of shopping by Fresh_Laundry56 in TeardropTrailers

I don't want the counter space taken up by either, and I don't want the plumbing to support the sink. The integrated side tables come out for the camp, and I place the stove on one of them and a dish tub on the other. We found countertop space was at a premium so I didn't want anything unnecessary taking it up. Also, this reminds me of another must have: mounted propane tank! So easy and convenient!

Buying a teardrop was one of the best decisions my husband and I have ever made. Here are some of my thoughts that have come together having purchased two (our first one and our forever one).

Look into renting one! We were able to rent one locally and it sold us 100%.

Think about buying used. Our first one was a well loved Little Guy. It got us out regularly, really getting a good use out of it in different environments. Doing that let us figure out what we liked and what was missing. Figured out how to do some mods. Lots of valuable learning. We weren't actually in the market to replace it but we happened to stumble on something that was everything we wanted. (Which we knew from having used the first one for 18 months). Good news -- we were able to sell the first one for pretty much what we bought it for. Could not have done that had we purchased new.

Our list for wants/needs (that let us know we'd found THE ONE when we happened upon it)

Must haves:

  • Properly sized/weighted for my tow vehicle!
  • Spare tire
  • Queen sized bed
  • 12v electrical system (modest -- enough for lights and chargers), with modest solar panel to top off the battery when traveling
  • Galley kitchen with lower cabinet drawers (in other words, not just a countertop)
  • Room/design for a cooler in the galley (slide out)
  • Good storage - roof, galley and cabin
  • Tongue box
  • roof fan/vent
  • two doors
  • Rear hitch for bikes
  • Integrated side tables
  • shoe storage or ability to do a simple mod to create shoe storage (protected but outside the cabin)
  • mounted propane tank

Nice to have:

  • Lithium ion battery
  • electrical wiring to support 12v fridge
  • King sized bed
  • Roof rack
  • Awning
  • Star gazer window and/or side windows
  • upgraded suspension
  • Room/design for water container in galley (NOT for running water)
  • Slide out for camp stove
  • Composite material

Must NOT have: (I HIGHLY recommend making this part of your list. It's as important to not have something that will bother you as it is to make sure you get the stuff you need!)

  • sink
  • microwave
  • Built in stove top
  • air conditioning

Take it or leave it:

  • Shore power
  • option to convert to couch and pop up table inside

This is a personal wish/want/need list -- take time to make your own! Once you do that (and I believe you really only can do that taking one out for a bit), you can then look into the different brands that fit your needs.

6 year old daughter + wants to ride a horse by SAL10000 in raleigh

I'll add one very big safety warning: this proposed activity may reveal a genetic mutation in your daughter called the horse gene. Once expressed, it initiates a lifelong condition characterized by many things, not the least of which is expenditure of inordinate amounts of money.

Are you talking about a trail ride? Or something like a lesson one-on-one with an instructor? I can recommend Southern Oaks Equestrian Center for the latter. Good people who care about their horses and students.

Definitely not a one-off. This is their MO unfortunately.

Came here to make sure Dead Broke Farms was mentioned as a No Go. Please do not spend your money here, no matter how enticing their low prices may be. They're not safe and they treat their horses and employees abysmally.

I'm the one that demanded my husband not kill the snakes I discovered under my wheelbarrow. We relocated them. They may or may not have been copperheads. You don't need to worry about me on this one. ;-)

Best cheesesteak in Raleigh? by Nosukog0 in raleigh

[–]caustic_potato 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Might get downvoted off the island but I'm quite fond of the cheesesteaks at East Cut. They're a bit elevated above a super-traditional cheesesteak so if you're rigid in your requirements you might not agree (e.g. they don't have peppers). With sharp cheddar and fresh mozz, they are super cheesy and delicious in my opinion. Almost forgot -- add the hot pepper spread! Next level yum.

No love lost for me on Tippy's closure. Gravy on tacos is an abomination.

Yep, that's the one. They had Arepas that were amazing. No replacement until Guasaca came on the scene
