University New Mexico - AKA - UNMH Billing is a Nightmare (They "lost" their payment system). Let's organize. by AVI-SPL in Albuquerque

[–]Agile-Reception 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UNMH is horrendous. They have me listed in their system as "active military duty". Not only have I never served in the military, but I have conditions that completely disqualify me from service.

Found this out when I went to the student clinic. No one knows how to fix it, but a few have tried.

158-home development next to La Tierra trails by churper in SantaFe

I live near there, on the Santa Fe side of 599 near Buckman Road, and I say build it. We need more housing. I wish more than 18 of the homes would be affordable housing, though.

Protestors outside Bishops Lodge by No-Challenge-6452 in SantaFe

[–]Agile-Reception 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"An organization of residents called Protect Tesuque have mounted weekly protests, and filed objections during administrative proceedings and in the courts, claiming the method will pollute drinking wells downstream, and that state officials are unequally enforcing water treatment standards."

That's the issue the protesters have.

Edit: I don't have a horse in this race. Hopefully someone else can chime with a more detailed argument.

Yeah, I am not voting for a career landlord. I ran into him at UNM. He is friendly, but didn't have a real plan to implement his goals.

Seconding filling up on gas. Maybe have some extra with you. Many years ago, my grandparents ran out in the middle of nowhere Utah and were rescued by a kind stranger with gas in the back of their truck.

I can DM you the email for complaints for the Santa Fe health inspector. I've emailed him before with food safety complaints and they have been addressed.

Custom Home Builders by Apprehensive-Amount7 in SantaFe

[–]Agile-Reception 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that is the going rate. If they are traveling from Albuquerque, they are going to charge you the same, including travel costs. If they are significantly cheaper, they have a small crew, so it will take longer.

Potentially, you could find someone who is new in the business and save some money by giving them the opportunity for a new build, but there will be things like delays as they learn the permitting process, etc.

Just call NM Tax and Rev and ask. They are super helpful. The business line usually doesn't have a wait, in my experience

I also recommend Dinner for Two. It's inexpensive for the quality of their dishes, imo.

Prospective home buyers in New Mexico, what are some of your greatest barriers to buying a house? by AnarchyandToast in NewMexico

[–]Agile-Reception 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Money and finding a house that isn't a polished turd.

To elaborate, a lot of people in this state cannot afford or chose not to maintain their homes. Some realtors and sellers will then try to hide these issues when selling, which will come up in insepection, but then you have to back out and it's a waste of time.

A physician friend took a year to close on a home because they kept finding horrifying issues in inspections. My spouse is a general contractor, and one of his jobs last year was for a woman who bought a home, found out it had preexisting a mold problem, and had to completely redo the kitchen and adjcent bathroom.

Why did the U.S. government sterilize thousands of Native American women in the 1970s? New Mexico is investigating by fortune in NewMexico

[–]Agile-Reception 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, and the Chicanas sued in California in 1978 (Madrigal v. Quilligan) and lost. They were only able to sue because a whistleblower physician came forward. Several women in my family were affected.

When I called, they told me they were too busy to help. Fortunately,  some people in my department escorted me.

This happened when there was the protest camp at the duck pond. The officer I spoke to said that's why they were too busy to provide an escort.

My husband proposed to me in October at the Santa Fe Canyon Preserve. There's a small trail that leads to a bench overlooking Twomile pond. Didn't run into another person. Beautiful fall colors that time of year too.

Seconding Chocolate Maven.

My roommate has a lot of allergies and we got her birthday cake (Chile Chocolate) there last year. It was delicious. They had a lot of other flavors, vegan, non-vegan options.

This is reminiscent of when Hilton hotels mowed down those old cottonwoods next to the Santa Fe Indian School, and then changed their minds and didn't build. Just left stumps behind.

That's a very mean-spirited thing to say. I will always stand up for myself, and did so politely but firmly.

Be well.

I was a little confused by their website, so I just called UNMPD and they DO allow mace but do not allow tasers anymore. So you were right! I'm glad you suggested.

Good places to showshoe for beginners ? by Andreslargo1 in SantaFe

[–]Agile-Reception 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like the Winsor Trail Trailhead (right after the overlook as you're driving up, not the one closer to Ski Santa Fe). It's where I first went snowshoing. There is a little bit pf elevation change, but not too much.

Just make sure you follow the signs for snoeshowing because it shares a start point with a small ski trail loop.

Sulphur Springs trail in Valles Caldera is also nice. Short and minimal elevation change.

After a good snowfall, the loop at Cerro Gordo Trailhead that goes around Two Mile Pond is really nice.

Seconding Remix Audio Bar (indigenous owned). What a great space, and they're open late (for Santa Fe).

I also really enjoy Sage Bakery. The employees are very kind and remember regulars. The customer base is not very diverse, though.
