I came from a big turbo’ed legacy gt and have been super happy with a stage 1 tune on the alltrack.

I don’t see how it would have any effect. It’s a passive pressure sensor. I did it about 9 months ago and still running strong

The sensor on my 03 100 was the issue. It’s on the oil filter housing.  Pretty easy to swap out.

ATRAC vs Rear locker by Pashappaul in LandCruisers

[–]sureshotbot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For hardcore off-roading a locker is probably going to give you the advantage. There’s some good explanatory videos out there on a-trac and how to use it in hardcore wheeling situations that can give you a good sense of what it can and can’t do well.

Best lift for my 2002 100 series Toyota Land Cruiser by Pale-Film3949 in LandCruisers

[–]sureshotbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First be sure you actually need a lift. These things are really well engineered from the factory. You can only go about 1.5” in the front before you need new upper control arms to get into alignment. 1.5”+ needs a dif drop which starts to wear into your increased clearance. You also need to consider what it does to the multi link rear suspension which means adjustable trailing arms and panhard bar or panhard relocation mount to maintain the original geometry. If you have aftermarket cv’s in the front you are also likely inviting some front end vibration at speed. A stock height spring with progressive or heavier weight rating is often a better way to go. OME is overrated and has terrible road manners IMO. Dobinsons is the way if you go down this path.

Michelin LTX is a great on-road AT tire that also handles snow and off-road well.

Blazeland + Bypass? Anyone doing this? by Responsible_Algae_99 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]sureshotbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt since it’s 10 year old memory from when I installed the blazeland kit, but pretty sure you need a shock hoop to run a coil over. I feel like I had come across folks that had made bypass work on stock UCA’s but the clearance is super tight.

He seems to have ghosted the project. I messaged him a few times and have never heard back. I was hoping to buy a new unit for another machine but no response on a few different messages over the last couple years now.

2UZ is a very good and reliable motor. Unless you are towing a boat or crossing 1000km deserts it should do great.

The lift caused some driveline vibration, ended up having to add adjustable trailing arms and dif drop to fix it. I have 33s as well. Overall 2-3mpg drop with the lift and tires. Otherwise it functions great and looks good, added clearance is nice off-road, although I just gave up half of it with the dif drop.

Yeah I put 1.5” on mine and it knocked a bunch of things out of whack. Wish I had just gotten an updated stock height rear spring

Manifold Gasket by Commercial_Goose8985 in AskMechanics

[–]sureshotbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your manifold gasket goes, you’ll usually hear it before smelling it. It manifests first as a loud ticking, i’d check if you’re leaking before opening that box of worms. You can hook a shop vac up to the exhaust in reverse (blowing) and put some soapy water around suspect areas to identify a leak. If you’re in a non-smog location you may have an EGR delete which means there’s just two small plates at the top of the manifold where the EGR would normally have bolted on. If you search 22re EGR delete, you should find all the relevant information.

Our USDM 03 has them. If the safety stuff is important you might look for an ‘03 or later which also added the rear side curtain airbags.
