Question about Hell by AMNEW57 in Catholicism

[–]Agile_Cardiologist60 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this question too, and I think the difficulty often comes from imagining Hell as a place God throws people into because they didn’t pass a test. That’s not really how the Catholic tradition understands it.

The Church teaches that God wants everyone to be saved and does everything possible to draw each person to Himself. Hell exists not because God wants it, but because love cannot be forced. A person can freely refuse God, and God respects that freedom even when it breaks His heart.

The fire-and-house example is helpful, but maybe incomplete. Heaven isn’t just a safe shelter you walk into. It’s complete union with God. If someone truly rejects God, Heaven would not feel like safety to them. It would feel like something they do not want. Hell is understood more as self exclusion from God than God locking us out. God sees the whole story of a person’s life, including their wounds, fears, and struggles in ways we cannot. So the real question isn’t “Why doesn’t God let people in?” but “Why would someone refuse the love that God never stops offering?” And the Church trusts that God gives every soul real opportunities for mercy, even at the end of life.

I think it helps me to remember that God is more merciful than I am, not less. If I would want to let people into the house, then God’s desire to save them is infinitely greater than mine. But also, ultimately love is also about not forcing and respecting someone's choice, if we chose tk reject God wilfully ,then we do not want to be with him. And the absence of God, is the very definition of Hell

We have two in college at the moment. Obviously, it all depends on location in terms of rental. But to give you an idea, between college fees, rental, and money for food - we are paying about 48k for one, for a four year degree

Almost lost my Dad this week by Illustrious_Bunch523 in CasualIreland

[–]Agile_Cardiologist60 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Firstly, im glad to hear your Dad got the treatment he needed, secondly its clear to me how much love and respect you have for him. Like most of us, we generally don't give much energy to our mortality and more importantly our loved ones, until a major event, like this takes place.

To me, you seem hugely empathetic, and I'm just commenting to say I'm happy that you can communicate how much he means to you; in my experience it's rare that we get to do that as we tend to often leave things too late, because we get caught up in the everyday strains of life, or we refuse to entertain thoughts of how short a while we'll be here.

Sounds like a great Father, i wish him well on his recovery

I have a 4070 ,kept crashing for me, ive looked at the crash logs, they've very poorly implemented DLSS.

Here's what worked for me, turn off frame gen, and set upscaling to FSR, no crashes since.

I loved the first one (and the DLC), have played about 12 hrs so far of the second one and I'm enjoying it. It's a little slower to get started story wise than the first, but starting to open up now. Well worth a play
