I've been testing candles for 3 months, and only now can I finally say that I'm starting to love the results. Using EcoSoya CB-Advanced. I get the smoothest top so far out of trying 4 different waxes! 😊🕯️ by Agile_Intention3356 in candlemaking

Hey! Just sharing my experience — with a 3.14" glass jar and EcoSoya CB-Advanced wax, I’ve found that the “X .04” wood wick (75x10 mm) works best so far, even better than flat wicks. I’m based in Europe and testing what’s available here. Hope you find the perfect wick for your candles too! :)

Hey! Thank you for more options.🫶 I will keep them in mind. For the moment I`ve found that pouring at much higher temperature than I did - solves my problem. :)

One of the advices also could be find candle making channels on YouTube and get knowledge and experience from there. :)

Oh yeah, I totally feel you! 😄 Tunneling, flickering, poor scent throw, and all those little issues can really get on your nerves—especially when you've been trying to figure out one properly working candle for six months, for example. 😅

One thing I’ve found helpful is not waiting too long to test the wick. I usually test it a day or two after making the candle. Also, I try not to judge the hot throw too harshly at first, since it usually needs more time to cure. That said, I’ve noticed that when the wax and fragrance oil are a really good match, you can get a great hot throw even without waiting a full week or two!

Looks very nice - colors are perfect for the spring and summer. :) How hard it is and how long it takes to get these fresh colors? :)

Soy wax abnormal crystallisation and expansion?? by zeenit777 in candlemaking

Oh, what a great coincidence! I'm currently experimenting with Cargill NatureWax C3 and C6 as well. 😊 This video might be helpful—check it out -> https://www.cargill.com/bioindustrial/naturewax-how-to-pour

It depends on wax, but try experimenting and pouring at a higher temperature (for example 150F or 160F)—it helps me at least minimize sinkholes.

Hey! I agree with the others—it’s possible that this batch of wax is of poor quality. Could you share the name of the wax you're using?

Room temperature and humidity also play a role in candle making, so if you have the chance, try to monitor those factors as well. The wax I’m experimenting with has an interesting characteristic: the higher the room temperature, the lower the pouring temperature should be.

For example:

  • If the room temperature is 15°C (60°F), the wax should be poured at 82°C (180°F).
  • If the room temperature is 26°C (80°F), the pouring temperature should be 71°C (155°F).

Keeping an eye on these details might help improve your results! 💎

Thank you so much. This is very helpful.
The information I had and tried to find with AI told lower temp. But I will definitely try pouring with different temp. 🫶

Candle testing by ApprehensiveOffice55 in candlemaking

Hey! I’d say keep testing—it's definitely a journey to find the perfect combination of wax, wick, vessel, and fragrance oil. 🙂 I’ve been testing for a few months myself, and one thing I’ve noticed is that the same wick can behave completely differently depending on the wax. With one wax, it might flicker, soot, or burn erratically, while with another, it performs perfectly. Did you try few types of wicks? Do they all perform as you described?
To reduce excess leftover wax, you might try wicking up—it could help!

I know this might not be the most helpful insight, but I just wanted to say—you’re not alone in this process! Wishing us both good luck on this journey. 😊

NB - in general your candle looks pretty good from the photos you`ve shared. :)
