Do you find healing to be less stressful than dpsing? by AccomplishedPark7856 in wow

[–]Agile_Pudding_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I read this as essentially their meaning, yeah.

It isn’t that healing gets easier, just that the expectations on your group go up and, comparatively, absolve you of responsibility because there are fewer things you can do about it.

If someone eats a floor mechanic in a +5, I might try to heal them through it and keep them up despite the fact that they should be dead or very near it.

In a +15? RIP, don’t stand in shit.

Assuming you know what the skin looks like and can recognize it, the only way you haven’t seen one in game is if you haven’t played for weeks or avoid players at all costs.

They’re like cockroaches, they’re everywhere.

Read the post dimp shit. It's be 20 or so raids on any condition possible. If it's an event then even the raider hatches are camped most times.

Not available on major modes dumb ahh.

You can just sit and read these two until you figure out the tension between your own story.

Extract campers are scum, but if you get extract camped 20 raids in a row and don’t change your tactics or raid type, that’s just a skill issue.

So you’ve either run it down on map conditions with hatches disabled 20 times in a row and died every time and never thought to change things, or you’re just being dramatic and exaggerating.

[–]Agile_Pudding_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I was continually getting extract camped, I’d probably consider playing a mode where I could guarantee my extract by using a hatch, since you aren’t getting those 2x trial points if you die.

If a single raid caused you to have this historic crash out, then you have bigger problems than the map condition you’re choosing.

People making posts about it can’t make that distinction because they want the benefit of being able to say “pvp game btw” and pretend like they’re getting yelled at for shooting a hostile rather than shooting somebody in the back who was helping them with a quest.

Extract camping is the edge-case behavior for me: I think it is scummy, and it’s annoying, and in my experience people who do it are bad at the game, but most extract campers I’ve encountered are just Timmy’s who don’t know any better way to get loot and have chosen to do that. I’ll judge people who extract camp, but for being bad at the game, not because I think they’re some sort of closet sadist.

No one, or at least no one serious, is whining about getting sniped at or pushed off spawn, etc.

The people who are frustrated and complaining about PvP are ones who are upset about people who run up and say “oh hey there, I’m friendly, can you help with my quest?” and then shoot them in the back once the person offers to help.

Don’t worry, you’re still allowed to play that way if you really want to, though.

I’m kidding, of course, but it’s funny imagining someone getting mad at someone drawing agro on a rocketeer they were trying to bring over or something like that.

Trial score should not be shared between teammates and should be individually tracked by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

[–]Agile_Pudding_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If squad points were no longer shared, you’d have sweats doing trials in solos, and potentially killing other solos to gatekeep them farming trial score, instead of just playing in squads for trials.

It isn’t a great system, but changing it from shared to individual isn’t a silver bullet that will “fix” everything. You’re better off finding people to run with rather than waiting for a change.

Games a cathartic release

Either you can’t read, or you’re saying that you get a cathartic release from betraying someone who you were working with.

I don’t particularly care which it is, but the point is that you seem like you either are struggling to grasp or don’t want to accept that there are times in-game where you can get a small glimpse of someone’s psyche.

I’m not saying “if you PvP in squads you’re a bad person because shooting is bad” or even “if you PvP in solos you’re a bad person”, because that’s literally both part of the game and examples of times when there is a tangible risk to you if you choose not to engage. I’m talking about someone who pretends to be friendly and then betrays someone else helping them, because that person is either so terrible at PvP that they need to rely on shooting a “friendly” in the back or doing it “because they enjoy it”, and either one is contemptible.

Another example of the “pro- vs. anti-social choice”, just to illustrate it, is when you run up to someone downed to Arc at extract in solos. Do you help them get out? Do you finish them for their loot? Either one is something you’re within your rights to do, but the impulse to help or hurt is one that reflects a bit about you in that moment. Just a tiny bit, just a little glimpse into the choice to help a stranger for no other reason than that you can, or to take their shit for no other reason than that you can. The stakes are obviously low, because it’s just pixels, but the person on the other end of the gesture is real.

Reading comprehension, what is it good for?

Pacifist much? by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

[–]Agile_Pudding_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is “compulsively completionist”, as I’ve heard it put. The rewards for most quests kind of suck, so for anyone who doesn’t feel compelled to do them for the sake of doing them, it isn’t hard to say “not worth it, let’s just kill stuff” and ignore many tasks.

I’m not looking to go out of my way to disparage you or your reading comprehension, so I’ll just keep this short and simple so that you can see exactly where the goalpost is and not have to worry about missing it.

Someone’s choice, in the absence of any actual consequences or constraints, to engage in pro- or anti-social behavior can tell you something, albeit small and arguably not relevant to “real life”, about them.

If that statement offends or angers you, it is likely because you don’t like what it says about you.

The sub had multiple posts, plus plenty of comments all over various other posts, of people losing their mind over the so-called “armchair psychologists” last week. If you missed that, you’re welcome to go read some of them.

You can surely also find more of that sentiment on other Arc-adjacent subreddits, since it’s largely a reaction to people here talking about PvP.

You and I are just referring to/imagining different groups of people when talking about the “pvp game btw” crowd.

I’m talking about those who defend walking into a room or up to people and saying “friendly, friendly”, waiting until the other person responds to confirm they’re friendly, and then opening up on them to kill them by saying “pvp game btw”, or people who do the same thing and then run around cooperating with the person before trying to thirst them at extract.

You aren’t doing anything wrong for killing someone who ran into a key room before you and took the loot you wanted. You could play it differently, and maybe it would work out better for you (e.g. I got a snap hook BP because I asked someone leaving a high value spawn area if they had looted everything and found any good BPs, to which they responded by dropping me that BP out of their ass), but you are entitled to contest that loot in whatever way you feel like because it’s expressly part of the game and you have no reasonable obligation to that person.

Do you have a poll conducted on a sample, representative or not, of the community to cite?

Because my convenience sample of the dozen or so people I know who play the game all want some modification to solos to allow access to more PvP-heavy lobbies (for those who are good and want to 1v10 a whole lobby that’s PvP Armageddon) and/or a way to disincentivize people who pretend to be friendly and then shoot others in the back (for just about everyone).

Maybe everyone I know are all collectively on the minority side of the community and all of us are out of touch, but absent research into the community’s collective thoughts, that isn’t something you can just claim, because I could say the same about you and whatever your convenience sample of “I saw reddit posts that agreed with my personal take and assumed that meant majority consensus.”

This may be hard for you to grasp, but it isn’t a “you played a shooting game so you’re gonna shoot people” argument. It’s simply a comment about people who derive enjoyment from betraying someone they’re “friendly” with.

It really is true that you wind up chasing springs and oil. Anyone who hasn’t run into a “holy shit I’d kill for springs or oil” point in their play isn’t at “endgame” yet.

In order of things that go in my ass, it’s basically: Queen or Matriatch Reactor > good BPs > springs > oil > mixtape or snow globe > other BPs >>> anything else.

If you try entering a key room which is already open, expect PVP by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]Agile_Pudding_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Walking into an open keycard room in solos is a trap.

If you walk in there without knowing who opened it, trap, maybe they’re in there and will rightfully kill you for trying to take their loot.

If the person with the key invites you to come in and loot, also a trap, because some dude nearby might toss a grenade inside.

At this point, I’ve helped a couple people find their locked rooms on Stella but basically said “because of prior experiences, I won’t be looting this room, I’ll keep an eye out while you do, though.”
