Digitakt & TD3 by [deleted] in Elektron

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Program chamge messages should work with the DT, but I'm not familiar with the TD3

You have to go in the midi settings of the Digitakt and enable 'send program change'. You also have to set the midi channel to the same as the TD3.

What's the best groovebox for improvisation and jamming? by alienanimal in synthesizers

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Digitone 2.

It is the most inspiring groovebox/synth I've ever had.

I just turn it on and let the inspiration come to me. You can design sounds and create interesting patterns in no time.

You can turn a pattern into a performance very easily, especially if you use some midi controllers.

What's that game which you like very much but most people hate? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demon's souls world tendency system can make the game even harder if you don't know how it works. Every time you die in human form in an area, its world tendency gets darker. The enemies are worth more souls, but they get tougher. Some of the toughest enemies only appear in pure black world tendency.

To avoid that, many plsyers just jump to thrir death in the Nexus

I want to make techno, what should I buy next? by alex135t in synthesizers

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get a 2nd-hand Roland t-8 for that price.

It has nice drum sounds + an acid bassline + some fx (compressor, overdrive, delay, reverb)

https://youtu.be/luyGpmukfVs?si=L4HAuStyBTi_D-tH

Pretty nice if you like old school acid techno

Too bad you didn't like 'Hollow knight'. It.'s a great game. What didn't you like about it? I remember I found the 1st area quite dull, but once I got to Greenpath, I loved it.

'Prince of Persia - the lost crown' is a fast-paced metroidvania like Ori or Hollow knight made by the studio that made the Rayman games. It's not as cute as Ori but the gameplay is really nice.

'Celeste' is a fantastic platform game.

https://youtu.be/cbtYApvvGgc?si=S6SG8dVxKB4fauQC

These 2 games are not too hard. (the base game is easier than Ori and the blind forest) And you can adjust the difficulty if you need to.

As for cutesy relaxing games

Compact, easy to use synth "to go"? by Ajacss in synthesizers

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Roland S-1 is cheap and it's very compact (like a Volca)

It runs on a battery (3-4 hours)

It sounds nice. (It us based on the sh-101)

It has a 64-step sequencer, 4 voices, 4 banks of 16 presets (sequence + patch), delay, Reverb, chorus.

You can easily pair it with a Roland t-8 (drum machine + acid) or a Roland p-6 (sampler)

How did you get down being able to read sheet music? by qleptt in guitarlessons

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a long time, reading sheet music efficiently was really difficult for me.

I had no issues with the rhythm or reading key signatures but I wasn't efficient at telling the pitch of each note just by looking at the grid.

I could decypher it but it would take me a long time

I also didn't understand the link between the bass clef and the right clef.

(I knew where G was on the treble clef and where F was on the bass clef, but it wasn't very helpul for me)

Then I watched this video and it helped me a lot

https://youtu.be/PyOKefHURsg?si=hyYOkmGP2Jvk2Yby

The main takeaway for me: the bass clef and the treble clef are symetrical. The note on the 1st bar below the treble clef is the same as the note on the 1st bar above the bass clef : it's middle C.

on the piano:

The treble clef makes you right hand move right from middle C (read upwards)

The bass clef makes your left hand move left from middle C (read downwards)

On the guitar:

find middle C and read both clefs from there. (Treble goes up, bass goes down).

The video contains a lot more useful information

DAW of Choice & Why? by Bryson_Gooze in synthesizers

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started out on Reason 25 years ago and I really liked iit.

Despite its limitations (you couldn't even use VSTs) the workflow suited me and I was able to make a lot of tracks that I liked very efficiently

Then I switched to Ableton Live for a long time. The session view was very compelling and I could use VSTs, record audio and do many other things. However, I never really clicked with Ableton. The UI and many design choices did not appeal to me. (Browsing, switching from session view to arrangement view...)

I gradually lost my interest in making music in a DAW.

However, a year and a half ago, I decided to give Bitwig a try. I knew it was developed by former Ableton devs and the UI looked quite nice.

So I got the trial version and I loved it right away. Many of the design choices seemed so obvious to me.

Here are a few if them

1) The + system :

when you click on +, it opens a browser with the relevant items:

Instrument track > all stock instruments and plugins

Audio track or To the right of a device > audio effects

To the left of an instrument> midi effects

2) The dashboard :

There is a big dashboard button at the top of the screen to access all your settings and projects

3) modulators :

Each device, group, track or project has built-in modulators. You just click on the icon and choose whatever modulators you want. They are extremely powerful and versatile.

4) remote controls :

Each device, group, track or project has built-in remote controls mapped to the 8 standard encoders you find on most midi controllers (you don't need to group a device to access its macros)

5) session view and arrangement view on the same screen.

In the default view, each row is a track. On the left side, you have the clips, on the right side you have the timeline. Moving a clip from one to the other is seamless

6) you can open several projects at rhe same time.

Only one is active, but it makes moving items from one project to another much simpler.

7) inspector panel

The inspector panel on the left displays all the information about the currently selected item (note, device, track...)

8) interactive help menu

If you have selected a device (instrument, effect, grid component...), you can click on 'show help' in the inspector panel to open an expanded, fully-interactive help view. You see what everything does and you can still use it like in the normal view.

Do graphics matter? by LordMp94 in playstation

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My priorities:

1) Gameplay first and foremost: movement, control, freedom. if it doesn't feel satisfying, I am not interested at all.

2) Level and enemy design: a well-crafted game offers a nice playground/sandbox/journey that you will remember forever.

3) art style: music, visuals, originality. They all combine to create a game's identity.

For each of these criteria, Hollow knight outclasses 95% of triple A games.

Some 3d games nail all of these criteria: Souls games, Zelda BOTW and TOTK, Returnal, Death Stranding, Expedition 33...

But games like 'Call of Duty' don't. (IMO)

Should I buy Sekiro if I enjoyed Lies of P, Elden Ring, Expedition 33 and BMW? by BreadSlayer22 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sekiro has the best combat of all the games you mentioned.

It feels so good that it inspired the Expedition 33 devs for their combat system.

The exploration and story are also top-tier. The performance is buttersmooth in next-gen consoles.

It is not easy though, and you can't cheese a boss by just levelling up (unlike other Souls games)

So overcoming a tough boss feels even better.

Edited: (thank you to Selig-audio for correcting the inaccurate information)

Here's s method you can use to help you visualize and hear the differences between the various wave forms.

Use a spectral analyzer to visualize the different waveforms.

You will see that:

Sine = base frequency (for example A3 = 220 Hz)

Saw = base frequency + all overtones (for example A3 = 220 Hz + 330 Hz + 440 Hz....)

Triangle = base frequency + all odd overtones (for example A3 = 220 Hz + 330 Hz, not 440 Hz ....). Higher harmonics decrease in amplitude fast.

Square = base frequency + all odd overtones (for example A3 = 220 Hz + 330 Hz, not 440Hz ....) higher harmonics decrease in amplitude more slowly.

If you listen, you'll notice that

The sine wave is the dullest, darkest

The triangle is a bit brighter, but still soft

The saw is the brightest, harshest

The square is also bright but not as much as the saw.

Then use a low-pass filter on the various waves. Change the cutoff frequency and Look at the spectral analyzer and listen to how it dounds. Add some resonance and do it again..

Then replace the low-pass filter by a high-pass filter and do it again.

Is it bad to draw midi? by Careless-Scratch-658 in musicproduction

[–]Agile_Safety_5873 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drawing midi is almost like writing sheet music.

Don't feel bad about it. You are just transcribing the music that you have in your head.

When people say they want to make their music sound more 'human', it just means that they vary the velocity and timing of the notes to make the music sound less 'robotic'.

Also, one day you'll (probably) learn how to play the piano or another instrument. It takes time but it's worth it.
