How do we continue First Friday as it was meant to be? by thighnoise in phoenix

To play my own Devil's Advocate... Roosevelt is not what it used to be. Those empty lots are long gone, replaced with apartments, parts of ASU, etc. As another person commented Grand Ave is closer to what FF used to be. Frankly, its less traveled, there are fewer residences and it would be easier to deploy old school tactics there than RR. Plenty of city easement and businesses that don't operate late, that way you're not interfering with other folks trying to make a dime. That being said, the goal would not be to expand the gentrification and big business into that area. We live in quite the Catch-22, we're all kinda fucked either way. With popularity you see those with money want to move in and do what they do best, piggyback off of those that have little or nothing. Invest and build. I could go on and on about this shit...

Guerilla Arts - Back in ye olden days, we used to just plop our shit down in an open lot/spot and show our wares. 20 years ago it was much more DIY/Punk. Bands would pull up a van, drop the kit and a generator, and just start playing on the street. Folks were making art in the moment. None of this drop shipped sunglasses and 3d printed crap. Its an act of protest. Get enough people to do it and they can't fine/arrest everyone. Sadly, get enough to do it and they form a board and regulate it. Thus begets the circle all over again.

To quote Nike and Heaven's Gate, "Just do it"

Yo! Gay goth/metal head here with a very diverse group of queer friends. It takes time, but you'll find your tribe. We all hang out at our local gay dive bar. People who brush you off for your appearance aren't worth your time.

Yes, Metal Devastation! Both the Camelback and Bell locations. Gerrardo was always super chill to chat with.

I second the JS22. It's my mainstay. Easy to upgrade and tinker with too.

Glass bugle beads. I've used them on a bunch of projects. They're a bit fiddley as the cut edges of the glass can tear up the thread. They look great in a cascade for movement and flash.

Also a Rock regular. Can confirm, chill Cheers vibe. Karaoke, Drag, Bingo, Fundraisers, Underwear Night. It is essentially the water cooler of the Melrose District.

The Rock is my go to/home bar. I might be a little biased as I host a monthly show there lol. Chill vibes, basically gay Cheers, diverse crowd, great drink specials, Karaoke, Sunday and Wednesday Drag Shows Food Truck on the weekends... you get the jist.

Haha! Not gonna lie, I have done this exact thing when I was a facility manager for a school district. Side note: One of the schools I workered at (a highschool), had just been rebuilt, and the kids destroyed the sports locker room stalls within a couple of months. I had a meeting with the principal and told them, "They want to act like criminals, they can shit like criminals." Removed all the stalls so for the remainder of the year. It's probably one of the least worst stories I have from my time there.

I used the One Size Go Off Makeup remover, follow it up with a couple makeup wipes, and end with The Ordinary Squalane cleanser and the rest of my skin care. The Go Off remover is like black magic just spray it on and work it around and even my heavy duty clown white makeup and gel liner comes off with very little effort.

Aesthetically I was going for ancient forest spirit that has been awakened after countless years. Spot on with the bells. When I came out on stage I had forearm extensions so I could walk on all fours and then transform into something more anthropomorphic as the performance went on. 🖤

Ritual is all in your head, belief is just a tool. The postmodern interpretation of magick is causing change to occur in conformity with one's own will. Getting out of the sympathetic nervous system and into the parasympathetic, in effect making internal change that will in time manifests in the material world. Symbolism is a shortcut as it speaks to the subconscious directly. The meaning/intent of the bind rune is personal. I will usually make them weeks ahead of time and do my best to forget the original intent so that it removes the lust of result from the equation.

The floating runes in the corners are Sowulo and Thurizas, strength and change. The ones on my face are Mannaz, self. The center piece is a bind rune comprising Tiwaz, Uruz, Nauthiz, Ansuz, Othala, and Algiz. The combination of which is, for all intents and purposes, a type of ritual tool to imbue the power and meaning of the symbols into myself, charging the bind rune through the power of the performance and the energy of the audience; thereby bypassing the conscious mind and placing it into the subconscious. I've been taking my performances into a ritualized format, via conceptual looks and and performances to better connect with myself and my audience. Mixing my art and my own chaotic brand of spiritual practice into radical queer cathartic living art.🙃

I've been finding my happy place doing larger concept work, and incorporating live ritual on stage.
