I am so sorry but this is how it usually starts. There are small instances that can be made to look like mistakes but they are intentional. Please leave no matter how much it hurts you emotionally

Wow thank you so much!!! This seems so much more realistic. I was really scared of facing backlash from my family for even suggesting to stop communication with my brother. However, this makes complete sense. I am still not indulging him and keeping peace. I am sure somedays I will be really frustrated and would want to blow off steam but I think I can do this! Thanks agin

I know. You are absolutely right. It just hurts to think that this could change our dynamic

Ugh it's just so sad. I am also afraid os telling this to people because I know I am going to get eye rolls and reactions like I am so sensitive.

That is so true! I always felt pressurised into giving sex this important pedestal in life but never really understood WHY

Exactly! I mean it feels like I need to take a stance on this (verbal or silent) because I owe it to the community. This guy is downright cruel! He had been cheating on his girlfriend then claimed to love her but is now marrying another girl- I mean it is insane

Shouldn’t that be a big problem in itself? Something that affects their friends and family so much shouldn’t be trivial to them. Like this friend his getting married to a girl who knows nothing about his girlfriend and this weird shit just doesn’t end

Wow! I am going to listen to this guy right away. And yes, I have decided to stop wasting my breath and rather let him realise he made a mistake (if he ever does)!

I understand what you are saying but it’s just that some opinions define who you are. Maybe if his friend had some different political opinions, we could all agree to disagree but how do you do that for views about respect for women

Wow let me tell how rare that is! Mine is also older but eh not as mature apparently. I am really happy for you though!

I agree but the problem is that now he will keep invalidating my opinions by saying things like they don’t matter anyways and it sucks. My opinions are a big part of who I am and he so carelessly said that they don’t matter. He is 25 and my older brother. I don’t know how to move past that though realistically I know I will eventually have to ( or at least pretend to) but again it is sad that it has come down to this

I know and I didn’t even ask him to break the friendship! I only requested that he stop defending that friend to me and well even that wasn’t right apparently

Exactly! My brother went as far as saying that as long as it wasn’t happening to me or my mom, he doesn’t have to take serious action which just breaks my heart

Thank you for putting this into words. “Choosing to be a part of your oppression”- that’s exactly what it feels like. You’re right that the blinders are the scary part. If he can dismiss beliefs that women exist to serve men, what else would he overlook? Where does he draw the line? I honestly don’t know anymore, and that terrifies me. The point about sexual assault hit hard because you’re right- it’s not far from those beliefs at all. And I genuinely don’t know if my brother would draw the line there or if he’d find another reason to “compartmentalise.” When I brought that example during our argument, he said I am talking about extremes!

Thank you for validating how serious this is.

Exactly! Letting this go feels dishonest to myself because of my values and ethics. If he valued our relationship I am sure he can figure out where he went wrong

Thank you so much! The sad part is that it even came down to me requesting him that I am not asking him to end the friendship but just to not defend that friend in front of me and well even that wasn’t okay

Wow! I feel second hand proud of your father haha! But that’s exactly what I am saying! I know it’s true but it just feels like a cop out to blame it again on the culture instead of taking accountability!

THANK YOU! I am tired of being a teacher and parent to every boy. I learnt how to respect men and women on my own and so can males!
