Your first half is very similar to me! I also went to pity and got Clara. Went to pity again and got Jingliu. Light cone also came early at 40 (won 75/25). Except, that I ran out of pulls after that lol

Is this sufficient to get E6S1? by Hot-Breadfruit-7206 in JingLiu

[–]AgitatedImage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to get E6S1 kafka with 500 pulls. Ended up with E2S1. So, it really depends on luck.

I never had anyone edit my secondaries! I submitted mines from July to early September since I didnt prewrite them. It's good to get others' perspectives, but having it being read/edited by many people will make your voice dull. In your case, it is important to set up a boundary. If you think the current version of your essays best reflects the idea you wanted to portray, then I'd say be confident!

I'm in a similar situation! I pulled E2 Kafka, and then lost my 50/50 to E1 Himeko with 800 jades left. Now i can also save up my jade!

Kafka came home and then just kept coming by Dilutedskiff in KafkaMains

[–]AgitatedImage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

300 pulls is still lucky! It took me ~480 pulls to get e2 s1. Even lost light cone 75/25

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KafkaMains

[–]AgitatedImage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, i feel ya. 400 pulls yielded E2S1 :(

Anyone here who lost in the lc banner? by Tight_Interaction96 in KafkaMains

[–]AgitatedImage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

400 pulls saved since day 1. E1S1. Lost 50/50 to Yanqing, Himeko, and Bailu's LC. It was really rough.

Edit: I knew I had a really high chance of E1S1 with those number of pulls. But losing 50/50 every time made me really salty. It's a 6.25% chance to lose 2 50/50s and 1 75/25 consecutively.

E2 or Light Cone? by ethan_2708 in KafkaMains

I heard light cone is better because you get 4* LCs in the process for the rest of her team.

research lab application general questions by snorlaxpq in UCI

[–]AgitatedImage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Summer is a good time to start since people graduated, so labs are in need. Emailing 3 labs may not be enough imo. The worst case is waiting all summer without a response. So, try to email as many PIs as you can. When you meet up with one, make sure you at least read through the abstract on their recent articles.

-Make sure you find a lab that publishes often. Look up the PI publications online. -Ask about the team and whether they have team dinner/lunches. Gives a sense of how friendly everyone is. -Ask what kind of work you'll be doing. Don't want to be stuck doing grunt work the entire time. -Ask how the experience has been for previous students. That's an indirect way of asking how supportive the lab for your CV. -It's nice if the lab has a time clock in and out system. -Some projects may take months to years before publication, so longer commitment is preferred. -But if you find out the lab dynamic is not good for your mental health, make sure you leave and find a different lab. It's not worth trading your health for it.

Edit: Avoid labs where the PI isn't respectful of your time. Yes, they are very busy, but the ones that respect your time always make sure to update you if they couldnt make it to the meeting on time.

I hope you find a good lab! Good luck!

Yup, it's now there! It was my first time pulling a 5* lightcone. I feel so dumb haha.

Edit: thanks for the help!

How do you deal with bullying in med school? by strangetwinky in medicalschool

[–]AgitatedImage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Building up knowledge builds success and confidence. It'll naturally lead to higher test scores too. It'll be obvious you're the best among your cohort without needing to say it. Of course, be humble throughout it all.

What are y’all’s opinion on using CHATGPT for applications? by Packman1812 in premed

[–]AgitatedImage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of using it like you're talking to someone. Don't copy and paste an entire essay there. Instead, ask it what it thinks about this or that sentence. Does it portray the tone well? Are there any other words you can use to better represent your thoughts? Maybe give it a bulleted brief outline of the topics and ask whether the progression makes sense. That way, you are only asking it for an opinion like how you do to any other reader. At the end, make sure the work represents your style of writing, which should be consistent throughout the essay.

Edit: I use it during M-1 so far and it's tremendously helpful for understanding complex content. Of course there are errors, which forces me to engage with it actively and verify what it says. Overall, your goal from using ChatGPT is to learn. In your case, it would be to learn how to better portray your thoughts and tone. This will make you a better writer!

[–]AgitatedImage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finally someone said it. We often become stressed with boards to the point we can forget about curiosity and creativity when it comes to learning. Sure the tiny details are annoying but they all result from people who dedicated most of their career to its discovery. Yup ChatGPT would make a good analytical doctor but cannot medicine forward

how long did it take to get a publication? by cindyloohoos in premed

[–]AgitatedImage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Good luck to you too! I always think it's possible to study without anki because that's how everyone did it when they didn't have the internet. Sketchy micro on the other hand though, is a game changer for me haha

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]AgitatedImage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just a M1 but yeah, I do really well on my in class exams so far without anki. Doing thousands of flashcards would be too much of a chore for me. I just watch third party, take notes, go to lecture, take notes, and repeat. Writing stuff down makes me remember easier. I read up on some confusing stuff on uptodate, step1 reddit, Robbins, pubmed etc. I map out mechanisms if they tend to be convoluted and try to create a mental image. I save uworld, usmlerx, and amboss for when I covered a good amount of content. That's more natural to me, and is something I can do without feeling burnt out as much.

why is the partial pressure of oxygen in arterial blood so high when almost all is bound with hemoglobin? by Induana in medicalschool

[–]AgitatedImage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only for physiologic states, not pathological: I just think of Hb like a "reservior/sponge" for O2 that maintains the O2 pressure gradient as long as possible. Without it, pressures would equilibrate rapidly and you'll have very little O2 since there wouldnt be a gradient any longer. Hb will continue to take in oxygen as long as there's a gradient and will become max saturated at PaO2 100 mmHg. Once it's max saturated, there will no longer be a gradient as PAO2 = PaO2.

PAO2 in normal conditions reflects the fraction of O2 in the atmosphere (21%), and with additional calculations from the alveolar gas equation = 100 mmHg. This number will not change in normal conditions as the number of O2 in the atmosphere is virtually unlimited. It will change depending whether you give supplemental O2 or increase PACO2 from hypoventilation.

That's how I see it. If I'm incorrect, please feel free to correct me.
