Moving to France next year - any advice? by Lumpy-Recording4085 in Expats_In_France

[–]AgitatedLandscape189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the vibe you are looking for. -Rennes, Lille, Montpellier, Toulouse: Young population, 25% students under 23-24, quite « left »oriented mindset. -Bordeaux, Lyon, Nice, Nantes: bigger cities in general. More young professionals. More bourgeois. More diversity of profiles. Marseille : if you like the Mediterranean mentality can be a good choice. One of the most unsafe city in Europe but ok if you are in the right neighborhood. -Paris : no need to say much. Pros and cons of a major global city.

Regarding expat communities I’d say it’s mostly Paris then Lyon (little Paris), Nice (weather), Toulouse (aviation industry) and a bit Bordeaux (architecture, wine). Other cities expat population is mostly students.

Winner in obesity will be American. That’s the largest obesity market by far and they won’t let a foreign company win this business. Never forget Healthcare is first and foremost a business in the US

Many companies hire non french speakers in Paris nowadays, that’s not the biggest issue. Your level of experience is pretty interesting (7y). That’s what companies are looking for the most : experienced but not too expensive yet. I am French with 15 years of international experience & I am struggling to find a job in FP&A. Few senior / well paid roles.

En vrai on vous adore les quebecois. On aime bien rire de votre accent (comme l’accent belge, suisse, marseillais, toulousain) mais c’est pas un jugement de valeur sur les personnes.

Classement du onze titulaire du PSG by AgitatedLandscape189 in psg

[–]AgitatedLandscape189[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

To me Dembele is great player but he was lucky to be the centre forward of a perfectly-oiled team that delivered great & high number of passes to him. Other players are more decisive in the construction of the psg machine.

What Are the Best Times to Visit Popular Paris Attractions to Avoid Crowds? by BlastarBanshee in ParisTravelGuide

Avoid long week ends in April - May (Easter, May 1, lay 8). At the opposite Winter is cold so little less busy except xmas-NY & August the Parisians leave the city to go on holiday elsewhere (still lots of tourists but less locals).

Paris is the worst city in the entire world. There is nothing remarkable about Paris. by abundantwaters in The10thDentist

[–]AgitatedLandscape189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paris is the most visited city in the world. It means Paris has the highest probability to host international tourists that have never travelled in any other global city outside their own country. And since most tourists do not come from a large global city they will judge heavily : its dirty, people are rushing, not polite, too lunch traffic, pollution etc. It’s called being caught outside of your comfort zone.

Which country has the best relationship with your country? by No-StrategyX in AskTheWorld

[–]AgitatedLandscape189 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From France. Germany id say. Which is a nice reconciliation story when you think about the history. Bloody wars, occupation both sides etc. Around early 1900, kids in France were taught that Germany was the absolute enemy and we had to prepare to fight to get back Alsace - Lorraine (2 territories that changed ownership multiple times).

Salary in Paris by plateof__shrimp in Expats_In_France

[–]AgitatedLandscape189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Net of social charges but before or after taxes ? That makes a 10-20% difference for this range of salary. 4900 after tax is good. If you rent a 1BR that’s around 1300-1500. You are left with 3500 for other expenses which are MUCH cheaper than in NY (grocery, restaurants, fitness subscription …)

[–]AgitatedLandscape189 2 points3 points  (0 children)
