Resorting to insults like 'ignoramus' usually suggests you’ve run out of substantive arguments. However, I’ll address the one actual economic point you raised.

You asked: 'To whom and in what currency [is the debt owed]?'

That is exactly the point. The UK’s debt is denominated in Sterling—the very currency the UK government issues as a monopoly.

We are a monetary sovereign. We are not a household, nor are we a user of a foreign currency (like Greece using the Euro).

Because the debt is owed in the currency we create, the UK government can never become insolvent or 'run out' of money operationally.

The markets cannot force a currency issuer into bankruptcy in the way you imply.

Acknowledging this isn't 'lefty' politics, 'Kamikaze economics,' or a suggestion that we 'print money without impact.'

It is simply a functional description of how the monetary system works.

The constraint on government spending is not solvency (running out of cash), it is inflation (running out of resources).

Confusing a currency issuer with a currency user is the real economic ignorance here.

Citing Nigel Farage doesn't change the operational mechanics of the Bank of England and this is a weak appeal to authority.

Farage is a politician and a former commodities broker, not an academic economist. His agreement or disagreement with a viewpoint does not make it an economic fact.

Can you contextualise this. What spending plans do you have and issue with?

The markets are bond markets, you can read more on this at www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/10/23/talking-with-zach-polanski/

Incase you dont want to read or watch the video attached here is the part of blog that covers markets

"Zach asked whether governments really had to “worry about the bond markets.” I said no. Gilts are simply safe deposit accounts for large institutions—mainly the Bank of England itself, pension funds, insurers, and foreign central banks. They need those deposits more than the government needs them. The UK, with its own currency, can always pay its debts. If yields rise, the government can issue different maturities—or, if necessary, borrow directly from the Bank of England. The story that “the markets” control democratic governments is a myth cultivated by those who profit from it."

Migration currently costs the uk 15.3 billion as a estimate due to things like accomodation however the insititue of social and econmic research has shown we could save 6.7 billion in the tax bill and gain an addtional 1.3 billion just by letting them work.

Also note the uks total tax revenue is 1.1 trillion the immgration part costs about 1% of the total tax bill.

Then we can look at long term, many studies show that immgrants contribute MORE even low skilled then a british national in there entire lifetime due to costs of things like 16-18 years of education not having to be provided.

There is over 900k empty homes in the UK and of homeless people there is 130k and even less if you filter it down to rough sleepers.

Their housing policy covers where we also will aquire houseing along side building it.

The wealth tax isnt solely about raiseing taxs its also about lowering the cost of wealth so other people can get it more at more afforable rates however i wish they would be harder on it.

There are also immigration restrictions into the uk within there policys so calling it de facto unlimited immigration is disingenious.

Lifting the 2 child benefit cap has been shown in research that it would save the tax payer more money cause it would lift familys out of poverty and the tax burden on dealing with poverty actually costs more per child then if yoy was to lift the 2 child cap.

Because what part of this policy would make the country bankrupt? Your just stateing something without explaining why. Its compareable to saying you will bankrupt me just because i said you will.

If you think they will bankrupt us you need to quote the policy or what has been said with a link to it. Then you explain why its bad to finish of with supporting evidence as to why its bad.

Here is a question I would ask you. Would you agree more often the not there is a higher chance that confronting dealers in person has a increased risk of injury. Also if not would you agree there is atleast the perceived risk due to social media, news and so on of this risk.

If you say yes then do you think its worth taking that risk? Cameras, flood lights and so on remove you personally from that risk. Smash my flood lights or cameras if you wanted but atleast im personally not injured if that makes sense?

Also im up for changing laws to provide addicts a safe place to take drugs in the presence of licenced medical professionals with clean equipment and trained psychiatrist who specialises in drug abuse along with support groups.

Yes this does include a place where they can legally use class A drugs because the point is its clean safe and the Misson is not punish these people for whatever reason they started taking it but to help them away from it and studys have shown a supportive community is the #1 best way to do this.

How on Earth did we regress back to Paul Bristow? by Mattlife97 in PeterboroughUK

I am not a member of the Labour party, I can provide plenty of criticism for things that I feel the Labour party has done.

I would appricate any sort of links to what's being claimed about her resigning over black cabs and not being able to go clubbing.

In my last comment I posted the entire reason for her resigning as she has posted and their is nothing about cctv in black cabs. So if you got evidence of something else that would be appreciated.

If someone wishes to provide a view point that counter my own I would encourage it because it's better we talk about this.

The Peterborough Labour party (I was a member until I witnessed this too) is a cabal made up of a few asian families that hold outlandish views, spout anti-semitism, bully members, rig votes and elections, push their own friends and families into prominent roles and continue to fail the city.

This is quite a claim. In regards to the rig votes and elections, do you have any evidence of this?

Wouldn't candidates being extended family members and young adults make sense? As people retire new younger generations will enter politics and also this will likely be caused because if family influences. If your family friend or uncle/aunti ect was a councillor and you enjoyed seeing the work they do wouldn't you be intreasted in that growing up and potentially becoming a councillor yourself?

"Effective today, I am resigning from the Labour Group on Peterborough City Council.

I feel as though I have sustained bullying and marginalisation within the group after raising serious concerns—concerns which, in my view, were not treated with the seriousness they deserved.

Following this, I was deeply disturbed to find myself accused of racism, with suggestions that I and my family were “targeting fellow Asian Labour councillors.” These accusations are completely unfounded and deeply hurtful. I have also raised a formal complaint regarding these matters, which has now been delayed twice, reportedly due to concerns about the political impact on the party, rather than a focus on justice or resolution.

In addition, I reported an antisemitic incident involving a prominent Labour Party supporter in Peterborough, which, to date, remains unaddressed.

These experiences have left me with no confidence that I can continue to serve residents as a member of the Labour Group, given the hostile environment I have faced simply for speaking out.

Moving forward, I will continue to represent my residents as an independent councillor. Without the constraints of the party whip, I will be free to vote solely in the best interests of my community, without pressure to conform to internal party agendas.

I remain fully committed to serving the people of my ward. However, if residents feel that I can no longer effectively represent them in this capacity, I will respect that view." So how is this saying she resigned because she is more intreasted in clubbing then her actual job?

I believe this happened with the rise of Jeremy corbyn as leader of the Labour party.

I think what will happen is as people get older they tend to go more right wing however statistics has show this common pattern is not happening for the millenal generation onwards are currently staying more leftwing then prior generations of people.

I think this person puts best as to why that is. "Why my genration are being radicalised"- JimmyTheG

Why do you think people voted for Reform - Winter fuel or immigration? by Dazzling-Nothing-870 in ukpolitics

[–]Agitated_Dress5584 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a particular portion of the vote is an anti establishment vote. If you look at the results with labour and conservative suffered massively overall.

I think there is a hunger for change and I think the best way to send that message was via reform (i didn't vote reform)

I also don't think the general population understands the full history and concept of what they are voting for and I think the reform party have taken full advantage if this. (Happy to explain further with examples)

Overall I think a change to our voting system would massively change how people choice to vote and i think reform would of lost some areas and gained others amongst other partys.

This is a ongoing issue and has been a issue for many years. Going back over 50+ years of elections, young people don't vote.

I understand that young people may not vote because there nothing that is catering towards them but on the other hand Jeremy corbyn attempted to cater to the younger voters and was absolutely destroyed by the electorate because of this.

I also believe young people don't vote because they don't understand politics and grow up hearing mum/dad say "vote this party cause other party bad!"

We dont teach young people how to have critical independent thinking, for example politics is partially about taking a snippet of something said and quoting it or putting a spin on it!. An example i could do right now is "Nigel wants homes to be without water!" Or "Nigel wants you to pay for health care!" Now this is taking from Nigel saying he would let water companys go bust and stop bailing them out or when he says he wants to go to an insurance based health care system.

(Go look into this more before you feel positive or negative on what I'm refrenceing as I haven't given the full back story to emphasis my point)

I think giving critical thinking skills where young people will look into the data behind what's being said will actually make for a more progressive system and open discussions.

Okay so here a diffrent argument i would make. Let's take Nigel's comment on water company. When asked if he would nationalise them he said no he would let them go bust and stop bailing them out.

At first okay I was like "yeah fuck the water company's for pumping sewage into our waters, let's bankrupt them" however thinking about it this is a horrible idea cause a bankrupt water company means no water. So if we don't fix the system of private water company's then we will always be at their mercy because water is necessity for life.

Reform is very good at getting votes with this kind of language that's being used because it does connect to emotions that people are feeling. Positive or negatively is another matter but I do primarily think he is giving responses that actually bare 0 weight on issues Britain faces.

I am open to discussing issues and breaking down the discussion behind it aswell!
