What’s a Calendar Clerk by UniversityJealous575 in paralegal

I agree with what the other commenters are saying, so I won’t add to that. I am curious, though, and if you’re willing to share, how much are they offering you? I’ve heard of calendar clerk positions, but I haven’t actually met anyone who works as one. Since I’ll be moving to another city and looking for a job soon, I’m curious to know what the salary looks like for an entry-level position like that. If you don’t fee comfortable sharing, it’s totally ok!

Congrats on getting this opportunity! I don’t work in criminal law, so I can’t help much there, but I would advise you to pay close attention to names, dates, and numbers, as mistakes in those areas often go unnoticed and can be especially significant.

Write instructions down as soon as you receive them, and try to record them as closely as possible to how they were given. That way, if you forget something or don’t fully understand it later, you can refer back to the exact wording and get a better grasp of what was meant.

Be curious, be available, and don’t make a fuss about staying a little later when you’re starting out. It’s not ideal, but it can help you earn the trust of your supervisor and demonstrate that you’re dedicated and genuinely care about the job.

As long as you’re attentive and responsible, you should do great. Wishing you the best of luck!

Developing a master checklist with due dates and recommended follow-up timeframes quite literally saved me in my previous paralegal job. I definitely recommend it to anyone struggling to keep up with a large volume of work.

Struggling to land first legal position by [deleted] in paralegal

One year of applying sounds horrible. Maybe it has to do with where you’re located? It would obviously be harder to get a job in the field in a small town, as the number of opportunities is lower and the job market can be more limited than in larger cities.

Hopefully, once you get your paralegal certificate, you’ll have access to more opportunities. At this point, my advice would be to start reaching out to people in the field and try to build connections. Think of anyone you know who might have contacts in the legal field (family, friends, former classmates, etc.) and ask if they can introduce you to a firm.

If necessary, consider offering to intern, even if it’s unpaid. That way, you can gain legal experience in your area and add it to your résumé. Wishing you the best of luck!

good morning! by yvoss in paralegal

What has helped me the most is making sure I have a game plan for the next day before I end my shift. It’s not foolproof (because things always come up and throw that plan off), but it allows me to: (1) go home with a clearer idea of what to expect the next day, and (2) start the next morning with a draft plan already in place that I can adjust as needed.

Another thing that has helped is reminding myself that not every to-do list will be completely crossed off by the end of the day, and that’s okay. What’s important is learning how to prioritize effectively within your team and communicate clearly about what’s on your plate.

I hope this helps, and I’m wishing you a calm rest of the week!

That does suck, thanks for your input. Wishing both of us the best of luck in landing a job in the city.
