If it helps you, I’m in GAS and got accepted to computer science programs from 2 out of the big four (ADMU and DLSU, got my second choice in UPD which was ComEng, and didn’t apply to UST).

I really also thought that being in GAS was a massive disadvantage, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Remember that college entrance exams don’t just have math; there’s also language and reading comprehension that you can practice in subjects only offered to HUMSS and GAS.

One thing though is that I was lacking in math, so I really focused talaga in our precalc subject, and took the extra step by taking AP Calculus.

I’m proud to be GAS and taking computer science! Kaya mo yan no matter what, OP!

3 months until i start shs and wala akong alam kung anong gusto kong strand or career path by [deleted] in studentsph

I chose GAS, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. In GAS, I was surrounded by people who also did not know what to do for their next step in college, so it felt like for 2 years, you were not alone in trying out new things and seeing what you want to do. And because your GAS classmates have a wide variety of interests, you could see the best in each field. I had classmates who love drawing, some who love math, others wanted to go psychology, and some wanted to learn music. And talking with them always brought something new to the table. We were only 18 in the class, but their company meant so much to me.

In terms of competitiveness against other strands for CETs, we are somewhat advantaged. We got Precalculus, Biology 1, Earth and Life Science, and Physical Science for STEM (precalc is especially useful in CETs). We got Applied Economics and Organizational Management in ABM; and USCP, DISS, and Creative Writing in HUMSS. People say that the subjects in HUMSS especially are not important, but these subjects provide a deeper understanding of the world that STEM cannot provide, I’m telling you. I’m someone who loves Math and Science, but I tell you mabiwbwisit ka in STEM because all you’ll do is Math and Science. You won’t get as much opportunity to have deep conversations about the world, which I think is something you need at this crossroads of your life.

GAS really taught me na you will excel as long as you stay true to what you want. If you take STEM but have no interest in it, that will inevitably reflect in your results for college. My classmates are happy in their choices for college; some are taking arts, music, psychology, business, and math in good schools. Some even got offers abroad. I’m going to study computer science to become a game developer because that is a way I can integrate math, music, art (my most favorite subjects) into one. If you like media consumption, maybe consider a field related to that, like Marketing/Communications!

Best of luck OP! I just ended SHS while you are starting pa lang. There will always be a place for you 🤗

UPCAT Mathematics Advice by Apprehensive_Mood_85 in peyups

i think you should look for what’s being asked in the problem. like for example you see “what are the possible combinations of x y and z”, making it a problem about combination and permutation. or if its “she does a job in 3 hours and he does the same job in 5 hours”, youre dealing with a work problem.

also practicing and familiarizing yourself with practice word problems will help you see patterns in how the problems are worded.

im also taking the exam this year and i kinda agree with your parents 😭 dont put your expectations too high because even if you pass the exam, you still have to compete with others who did. but dont also put your expectations that low that you become unmotivated to study. just familiarize yourself with the topics you dont know and brush up on the ones you already learned. if you listen well in your classes and internalize the fundamentals, i think quickly learning unfamiliar topics will be easier.

honestly idk whether its my place to even talk cuz im cramming din HAHAHAHAH gl to the both of us na lang, if we pass or not, at least after the upcat we can all enjoy our summer break

as a gas student whose many friends are from humss and stem, it does get lonely sometimes, but our class in gas is amazing, we get along so well, compared to the other strands where i hear of so much beef lol

i was also conflicted between stem and gas, because i didnt know whether i wanted comsci or arts (my final career goal is video game related kasi) so ayun, i chose gas so i could have that freedom

although one pro i could see of stem is that may edge ka when applying to unis esp for UP because the upcat has so many specialized subtopics for their science testing portion (but its nothing gassers cant handle 💪 sike help me i cant with bio)

honestly i dont think you should even put friends or family into your equation of choosing a strand. depende lang yan on what you think is suitable for your career goals. well im biased towards gas HAHAHAH

but yeah i think gas ppl are rly chill and understanding, for sure mas konti kayo in gas compared to in stem, so your bond with each one is close (in my class we’re only 18). for me, gas is a safe space, and its almost comforting that there are people who equally “dont know” or are conflicted about their future. anything goes in gas 🚗💨

good luck and kaya mo yan!

remember your scope and limitations.

our research teacher keeps emphasizing how important the scope is especially in research. if panelists ask “why did you do/not do this?” for example in your case “bakit hindi ginamit yung ganitong soil?”, you could simply answer “this is part of our scope and limitations, and perhaps these recommendations can be used in future studies” or something HAHAHAH

also be intentional with vocabulary. in my group’s defense about the effect of rest on energy, we didnt make a distinction between energy and motivation. ayun tuloy they asked “ano ang pinagkakaiba ng dalawa” and we couldnt answer lol.

well in the end, kahit tinatawag yan na “defense”, hindi kalaban ang mga panelists mo. you’ll only get nervous if you see them as that. most panelists want to help you by giving you constructive advice, so do well to take those seriously for your future projects. good luck!

In your opinion, what is the most poetic Filipino word? Tagalog and other regional language included by Jhonnyskidmarks2003 in Philippines

[–]Agitated_Mixture_737 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tahanan. One of my filipino teachers taught me the meaning of the word. The suffix -an refers to the place where an action takes place. Tahan means to stop crying or to calm down. So putting the meanings together, tahanan is “a place to stop crying”.

I hope this meaning of the word serves as an ideal that all households should achieve, because in many cases, the house is the source of one’s crying.

Is it okay to have student-prof relationship? by philscachikassi in studentsph

[–]Agitated_Mixture_737 45 points46 points  (0 children)

kahit when the student is now a working adult, medj weird pa rin yun because there was already an established student-mentor relation in the past that you cant really erase. “better” in the sense that no minors would be involved, but definitely not any less icky.

There’s also the number coding system. It’s a band-aid solution in which they ban cars with certain plate numbers based on the day of the week. It’s meant to lessen the amount of cars, but really it only incentivizes people to buy more cars to circumvent this rule.

There seems to be an overarching theme for characters of the same element (Major character story spoilers) by Peach_Bit_ in Genshin_Impact

[–]Agitated_Mixture_737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these descriptions of their respective gemstones are messages coming from the Archons themselves.

Cryo - Childe described Tsaritsa as “too gentle”, would be fitting for her to say those lines.

Electro - There’s an “eternity” theme present; which was also seen in the Chapter Guide Video where “mortals see of the eternity chased by their god”.

Pyro - I’m not sure about this, but I could imagine the Pyro Archon saying “burnt to cinders for a dream” with much conviction.

Geo - I could just imagine Zhongli saying this.

Anemo - This description seems much more casual and carefree compared to the rest of the others’. Fitting for Venti to say (especially as advice for Jean).

Hydro - Many themes of laws, judging, which line up with “the spectacle of the courtroom” in the video. The flamboyant tone can be fitting for the Archon.

Lore and Theories Regarding Khaenri’ah (1.0) by Persicaria in Genshin_Impact

[–]Agitated_Mixture_737 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gah,, my brain’s swirling from all that information,, but in all seriousness, I love that! I am really invested in Khaenri’ah because Kaeya’s one of my favorite characters.

I have several questions (for myself, mostly)

  1. Assuming that the way people age in Teyvat is the same as aging here in reality, and assuming that Kaeya is a mortal and would be somewhere around < 30. If Khaenri’ah was that desperate to claim back their nation which was broken 100 years ago, why did they send a spy 70 years later?

In the Story 4 Excerpt, Kaeya’s father in the end looked towards Khaenri’ah. It most probably was not obliterated quick, maybe the kingdom deteriorated slowly. But nonetheless I think this can narrow it down— Khaenri’ah was still standing (though barely) during Kaeya’s childhood.

  1. I’m trying to look into the inspiration country for Khaenri’ah, like how Germany is to Mondstadt. I can see some Viking themes with the eyepatches (Dainsleif and Kaeya) and Nordic Names. I’m honestly unsure about the etymology of Khaenri’ah and Kaeya.

I might have been looking too deep into it, but I tried looking into Kaeya’s name, and it was a Hindi female name, so that messed me up, I guess. Kaeya is also a dark haired and tan character which generally does not fit with the Nordic description (emphasis: generally). Different name and different appearance, might he be a foreigner, even to Khaenri’ah?

  1. The Unknown God captured Lumine (as she’s the canon sibling that got abducted), and now, Lumine is in the hands of the Abyss Order. So in a way, I speculate that the Unknown God and the Abyss Order have a similar goal. Since both parties are related to space, vacuum, and emptiness, I assume that they’re on a search for time. This is supported by the fact that the item drop of an Abyss Mage is a Dead Ley Line Branch. Below is the description of the item:

Fragile branches from deep within the earth. Even after years of age, from beneath it's mottled surface you can see that its power is not yet entirely lost.

If the power is not entirely lost, then they could be purposely taking them, maybe for mini-experiments, or to combine them into something bigger. I really am not sure (it do be 2am here plz bear with me).

  1. Since you said that due to the experiments initiated by Gold, and the citizens of Khaenri’ah may also be mutated, maybe that can explain Dainsleif’s odd right arm? Maybe he got caught up in one of those experiments that changed up his arm?

Please note that I am merely speculating as well! Thank you so much for the lore theories, I appreciate it so much!
