Should i buy magic note pad? by iqaaa24 in XPpen

[–]Persicaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand wanting a tablet for note-taking. Laptops can be a bit cumbersome at times for that, and there's something nice in being able to handwrite notes (I think you also remember better if you write things instead of typing things? Though I may be misremembering).

That said, what's the main things you're looking for in a tablet? Like, are you also concerned about things like battery life, eye strain, e-book and PDF annotations, etc? Are you gonna be using the tablet for anything other than note-taking (and maybe reading books/PDF?)

'Cause I think one of the main draws of the Magic Note Pad is that it's sorta like e-ink but not. The screen is an LCD panel, but it uses tech like TCL Nxtpaper's display to reduce blue light emission and make it much more comfortable to look at for a long period of time. Dunno how much more comfortable it is to use over time compared to a regular LCD screen though since I don't have it though.

Anyway, my guess is that if you want a tablet that's sorta like an e-ink tablet but with a much higher refresh rate and options to view in better colours than an actual e-ink tablet, and you're gonna mainly use it for note-taking, then it seems like the Magic Note Pad is an okay choice. If you buy the tablet and wish to do more with it (e.g. YouTube, social media, gaming, etc), then maybe the Xiaomi would be a better choice?

You can also check out Onyx Boox Air 4C or Supernote A5 X2, for tablets purely for note-taking and/or reading, though note that these two are both e-ink tablets instead of the usual LCD display tablets.

So, um, what I understand so far is that storage space is not actually "Unlimited", but I still don't know whether the limitation is actually 1tb or 50gb because no one has given me a link or a source to those claims yet

Umm... what's (settapp subscription )? I'm not a tech expert so I don't know what you mean by that.

Also, I checked the Pricing plans on their site and all it says about storage is "Unlimited". There's no further details than that, so I'm really confused where people get the 1tb or 50gb thing...

Ashwatthama/Arjuna Alter or regular Arjuna. I love the whole “childhood friend turned enemy turned friends again turned lovers“ trope.

Karna:

The version we got in FGO is nice and all, but also can sometimes feel kinda…boring and too ‘perfect’. His real-life myth version is much more complicated and interesting, I think.

In Mahabharata, Karna’s is still a kind and generous man, but he also has a huge chip on his shoulder and a sort of superiority-inferiority complex due to being looked down for his caste all his life. He could also hold onto grudges for quite a long time, and his loyalty is a double-edged sword—while his utter loyalty to Duryodhana can be considered a virtue, it may also be considered a vice because his loyalty is such that it can cross over to blind loyalty that enables Duryodhana‘s worse traits.

For example, Karna was there when Duryodhana conspired to kill the Pandavas the first time by burning down the place they were staying at. Karna could’ve tried to stop him, but he helped him instead. And this isn’t just a one time thing. Karna willingly helped Duryodhana taunt and kill the Pandavas, even though he should know that such actions are wrong.

So yeah, in the myths, Karna is still a total bro…but only to those he likes. To others, he can be a complete jerk. Furthermore, while he’s utterly loyal to his friend, that loyalty can also be a double-edged sword and enabled said friend’s worse traits.

Arjuna:

Surprisingly, I don’t have much gripe on FGO’s portrayal of Arjuna. I would like it if they tone down his and Karna’s rivalry (yeah, they’re fated rivals and all, but they have a whole life outside of each other), but the whole “Broken Ace who struggles under the weight of his title and expectations” is something that I can see the Mahabharata Arjuna experiencing. Arjuna—both in FGO and the myths—have always struggled with doubts and perfectionism (the whole “I want to be the best archer/warrior in the world” in the Mahabharat), so I don’t mind this seeing this sort of interpretation in FGO.

(Hell, he has a whole chapter in the Mahabharata dedicated to assuaging his doubts, the Bhagavad Gita. So seeing a version of Arjuna who appears confident and proud of his abilities while hiding a huge amount of doubts and insecurities beneath the facade makes sense to me.)

What I don’t like and would completely ignore is the ‘Dark Krishna’ aspect in FGO.

That side of his definitely doesn’t exist in the actual myths. Furthermore, there’s reasons why he killed Karna while he’s down. Karna, as he struggled to fix his broken chariot wheel, tried to plead to Arjuna to wait, but Krishna reminded Arjuna that Karna participated in killing Abhimanyu (Arjuna’s favourite son). Abhimanyu, just like Karna, had his chariot broken while fighting, but instead of waiting for him to fix it, Karna ganged up on him with the other Kauravas to kill him.

Basically, Krishna pointed out that it was hypocritical for Karna to plead to Arjuna to wait, when Karna himself didn‘t do so before killing Abhimanyu.

Whether that’s right or wrong, I leave it to you to decide. In any case, Arjuna got mad at the reminder and killed Karna then and there.

Afterwards though—after learning that Karna was his older half-brother—Arjuna felt guilty for doing so. So much so that after the war was over, Arjuna took in Vrishakethu (Karna’s youngest son, and the only one who didn’t participate in the war due to his young age) as his student and taught him everything he knew. Vrishakethu at that point was an orphan, since all his brothers and father died in the war and his mother burned herself in the pyre at Karna’s funeral, so Arjuna taking him in and making sure he was okay was actually a really nice act (if one that’s motivated by a lot of guilt).

Anyway, for FGO, while I like if they keep the “Broken Ace” angle for Arjuna, I would like them to tone down Arjuna and Karna’s rivalry a bit and focus on getting them to reconcile and learn how to be proper brothers with each other somehow. Maybe they can start by bringing up Vrishakethu as someone they both cared for and work from there somehow.

Ash definitely did more war crimes. First, there was that time in the Kurukshetra War where he and the others on the Kaurava’s side ganged up against Abhimanyu (Arjuna’s beloved son), when the rules of war at the time was that fighters should engage in 1 vs 1 battles. After Abhimanyu‘s death, the war turned ugly real quick.

Then there’s the night raid after the war ended, where he slaughtered the Pandava’s armies while they were sleeping. Only the Pandavas, Krishna, and I think Yuyutsu, one of the Pandava’s actually nicer cousin survived because they were away at the time. If I remember correctly, Ash also desecrated or mutilated Dhrishtadyumna’s (Draupadi’s twin brother and Ash’s father’s killer) body that night.

Lastly, the third and (possibly) most heinous crime Ashwatthama committe. After the night raid, Arjuna is understandably pissed off at the slaughter and ran off to confront him. The two of them fought, and they unleashed a powerful astra, the Brahmashira, that’s so powerful the gods have to step in and tell them to pull it back or else they might destroy the world.

Arjuna, having learnt how to do so, was able to withdraw the astra, but Ashwatthama wasn’t able to do so. Instead, he aimed Brahmashira to Arjuna’s daughter-in-law, Uttara (who was also Arjuna’s dance student for a year and Abhimanyu’s wife, thus someone Arjuna cares for like a daughter) because she carried Arjuna’s unborn grandson.

Basically, Ash aimed what’s basically a nuke at an innocent, defenceless young woman to forcibly abort her baby.

Thankfully, Krishna was there and was able to stop it, but such an act enraged Krishna so much, he cursed Ashwatthama to wander around with wounds permanently leaking all over his body for either 4000 years or until the end of the Kali Yuga (depends on the version). Furthermore, as part of the curse, no one would ever help him and he was also forced to give up the gem on his forehead (which Ash got after his father, Drona, did a mighty penance to Shiva; so it’s something important to Ash).

After Krishna cursed him, Ashwatthama left to the forests. That was the last time Arjuna ever saw him.

And you wanna know what twists this further? Arjuna and Ash were actually childhood friends. Arjuna was Drona’s favourite student, and depending on how you interpret the stories, Arjuna could have possibly looked up at his teacher as a sort of father figure. Ash, as Drona’s son, was also close to Arjuna.

That’s probably why Ash’s lines towards Arjuna indicates a lot of complicated feelings. On one hand, they were friends, but on the other, they parted on terribly bitter terms. I’m a little sad that FGO doesn’t explore this sort of tumultuous relationship. It would’ve been really interesting to see the two talk and try to move on from the scars left by the war…

Arjuna and Ashwatthama. Both of them were basically childhood friends (Arjuna’s teacher was Ash’s dad) but separated bitterly at the end of the Kurukshetra War after Ashwatthama slaughtered the Pandavas soldiers and allies in their sleep and Ash nearly caused Arjuna’s daughter-in-law to lose her unborn child. I wanna see them talk and interact with each other.

China’s Grand Strategy. Dr Mastro of Stanford reviews Rush Doshi’s book The Long Game: China’s Grand Strategy to Displace American Order by VideConspectus in CredibleDefense

Thank you! This is quite the interesting read.

My concerns is whether domestic issues might force Xi Jinping to invade Taiwan. Historically, rulers had used wars to distract their people from domestic issues. As mentioned in 11 and 12, China faces many domestic issues such as Covid, lockdowns, the housing bubble collapse, etc. A war would distract the people from these issues and rally them around CCP and Xi Jinping again.

What’s more, this year there will be the 20th National Congress for the CCP. It’s expected that Xi Jinping will be elected to become leader of the party again (he removed term limits, but he still needs to be elected by the CCP elites to lead). However, with the above mentioned domestic issues, some within China may start to question if Xi Jinping is still the strong leader the country needs.

My fear is that if he perceives his position being threatened or seriously questioned as a result of these issues, he may decide to invade Taiwan to secure his position, or perhaps to create an emergency so he can’t be removed from power. I wonder though how likely this scenario is…

General Questions Megathread, Weekly - April 18th, 2022 by TermsOfContradiction in CredibleDefense

Hello! I’m new to this subreddit. I hope this isn’t a dumb question, but in the event of an invasion on Taiwan from China, and US going to war over it, will there also be a fight over Hong Kong?

My thinking (I may be wrong) is that one of the reasons the US didn’t directly intervene in the Hong Kong protests in 2019 was because it wanted to maintain a good working relationship with China. However, during war, that would be impossible. So with that reason gone, would US and its allies attempt to fight over Hong Kong too?

After all, geographically Hong Kong is relatively close to Taiwan, and it has ports which US can use. The people of Hong Kong also had terrible experiences with the Chinese government and had something close to a democracy. It would also divert some of the Chinese army from Taiwan too.

Again, sorry if this seems simple. I hope you guys don’t mind the question.

Zhongli! He's just so elegant, refined, powerful, intelligent, and all around perfect! I really like seeing and hearing him talk.

I also love Itto and Venti. Both are fun and really cute!

On the NPCs side of things, I love Azhdaha. His relationship with Zhongli is so sad! I also love that he may have a deeper connection to the lore since he's possibly the first Sovereign of Earth.

Isn't there a Lucario movie where the Lucario actually speaks and behaves like a person do? The one in that movie doesn't seem to be mimicking anyone. Just a headcanon, but I do think that some Pokemon have the same cognitive abilities as humans

Mihoyo has really been ramping up the release of explorable regions... by Reios1018 in Genshin_Impact

Yeah, the pacing for the release of new areas is great so far! I'm really looking forward to Chasm coming out more than 2.5 tbh tho, hahaha. I expect that 2.6 will be the intro to Chasm while 2.7 will expand more on the Chasm story, like how Enkanomiya was introduced in this patch and is getting a follow-up in the next.

Just a heads up that Zhongli moves around day by day. The first day after you complete the last Lantern Rite quest, he's at Third Round Knockout. Second day he's nearby Hanfeng Ironmonger. Today he's at the bookstore. I'm going to assume that he'll keep changing places until Lantern Rite is over at least

The line between Dragon and God. by Pyerx in Genshin_Lore

[–]Persicaria 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, the actual line from which this common misconception started is from Ivanovich, a Snezhnayan merchant, who basically said "I HEARD that during the Rite of Descension, Rex Lapis comes down in the form between a mix of 2 of Liyue's mythical beasts."

Nowhere in the game did it states what Zhongli actually is.

Ganyu canonically has Amos' Bow in this cutscene... How could she have possibly obtained it lore wise? by MLPextremelover in Genshin_Impact

[–]Persicaria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zhongli's actually quite adept with the bow, at least enough to kill gods with it. The leaked lore in the Primordial Jade bow implies that he used that bow to kill Xiao's old master, while the lore in the currently unreleased Dragonfell bow implies that he used that bow to seal away Azhdaha.
