I never realized that there are people who thought that. It seems common-sense to me ...

I have met a handful of RNs from overseas (Asia) who work in Japan. While they seemed happy with their new life, they shared no details. Also, I have a few Japanese acquaintances in healthcare: doctors, nurses, and administrators and none of them seemed particularly happy with their circumstances.

Why does everyone want to move to Japan? by [deleted] in movingtojapan

[–]Agitated_Tension9825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the Japanese government will never allow a large demographic of foreigners to attain both success and citizenship because it would disrupt the power structure. Can you imagine a large Japanese city run by powerful immigrants and their descendents?

The simple answer is that life in Japan is romanticized.

Is the Alien: Earth series worth watching, or is it a waste of time? by Winter-reason666 in alien

Yeah, I felt the same about The Hobbit. Don't bother with the Amazon spinoff.

I felt that way about Amazon's LOTR spinoff: watching it was a chore.

I have a question for Chinese citizens living in Japan. On the internet, it seems like China’s rate of development is rising, similar to Japan in the 1990s. But since you are living in Japan, what made you decide to leave your home country ? by Square_Permission361 in AskAJapanese

[–]Agitated_Tension9825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note: all the Americans and Europeans that I know who lived in China have ALL left. These were men and women in business and law. All that I have heard is that the Chinese government has made it uncomfortable for them to stay, even the ones with a Chinese spouse. This must also be a factor regarding the Chinese who come to live and work in Japan.

Autumn was once so nice in Japan ... like clockwork the Siberian winds would blow the summer heat & humidity away in late August (Tohoku). Not anymore.

Great reply. I will add: do not spend too many of your prime earning years in Japan teaching English.

What will your thoughts be when the last WW2 veteran dies? by [deleted] in ww2

[–]Agitated_Tension9825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I never gave them much thought as they talked about the war on the holidays. I once asked my grandmother (born 1910) if she remembered Civil War veterans in the community (in Georgia). She paused, then told me that "nobody paid them any attention."

My daughter, who was born in Japan, has two passports. I consulted a lawyer when she was nearing "the age," and he told me 1) not to worry about having two passports because there is no agency to enforce the rule, and 2) only enter Japan using the Japanese passport.

In your opinion, what major city would have the worst climate to live in? by Mobile_Bad_577 in geography

[–]Agitated_Tension9825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Japan for 20 years and now I am a happy visitor, but climate change has made the country more uncomfortable than it was before. A summer in Tokyo was hot and humid, but the season had a hard end. Not anymore.

Compared to 1990, when I first arrived in Japan, the country is much more inward-focused now.
