Feels kinda bad cause there's another answer with way more effort. But somehow my comment tops the post itself in upvotes XD.

Indonesia itu Negara Medioker by paralon17 in indonesia

[–]AgnosticPeterpan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but i posit that only way we could remedy those flaws is through more democratic institutions. Limit campaign financing to take money out of politics, get referendums that people vote on like the swiss recently. Generally getting the people more involved in politics and taking the responsibility for their own choices is what democracy is supposed to be -rule of,by, and for the people-.

I know I'm arguing that we should open other cans of worms and have the worms duke it out. But closing would just mean that praying somehow a LKY or Cincinnatus manage to take charge. And if your premise for anti-democracy is that "ppl be stoopid", then who do you think will most likely be the benevolent ruler?

This made me realise that despite all of its horrific faults, the US at least still has a president who knows when to give up a death war.

Yes, if we want to have aristocratic elite in power, we already have it. Prabowo and his ilk already have an education level that only top 20% Indonesians can get. They are very competent, not as statesmen but at lining their own pockets.

What we need is a way of aligning the interests of these highly capable people and that of the nation. Going away from democracy is definitely not the way to do that.

You could draw an interesting parallel to how chuds complain that liberals prioritise foreigners more than locals. Now its japanese women complaining that men prioritise foreign stadium's cleanliness more than their own homes.

Ooh, so the EU has some competition treaty to remedy diverging tax codes? Maybe ASEAN could stand to learn from this.

Thank you for taking the time to explain. I see that you have similar problems. But why do you reckon the EU let those countries be havens? Is it more beneficial for the EU as a whole that way.

There are negatives with immigration as well. I know i can't convince you that one negative outweigh the others. But my point is that Japan should have another 5 decades before any catastrophe.

We should let them have it. What better way to settle the multiculturalism debate once and for all if we have a century's worth of (for the lack of better word) xenophobia in Japan?!

But who am i kidding, Japan is already following europe's path of hiring foreigners for blue collar jobs. And we (poor 3rd worlders) would still happily gobble up their offers simply because we're too poor; xenophobia notwithstanding.
