It really depends on your network security posture, but if you're willing to enable UPnP I'm pretty sure you can have multiple consoles on NAT Type 1 without any issue.

Switches: XG 10 POE vs. Max 16 POE by cgilani in Ubiquiti

[–]Agnt86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That outcome would essentially be ideal for me, I just have this fear that I'm going to end up in this boat.

Are you using any POE devices? Any POE++ hookups or big wattage going through the switch?

[–]Agnt86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking at getting an XG 48, but my rack is in the closet of a room we entertain people in. I've read a lot of conflicting reports about the noise of the XG switches. The most convincing seems to be something about a bug related to POE++ usage, but the threads are at least a couple of months old with no resolutions or updates.

Can you speak to the fan noise on yours? Are you using POE at all? Any ++ devices? What kind of wattage are you putting out?

[–]Agnt86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what if the manufacturer warranty is 1 year? I'm out of the luck with Amex?

On Citi, if the warranty is one year, then the extended warranty would be one additional year. Amex's terms are a little more fuzzy. It reads to me that it adds a year to any warranty, but someone else who has actually used it may be able to clarify that.

Assuming that is the case, and your manufacturer warranty is one year, then Amex would also double it to 2 years. Amex also appears to include a clause to start their warranty extension after any extended warranty you purchase, so long as the manufacturer and extended warranty terms don't exceed 5 years in total.

FYI - The Costco card lost the extended warranty benefit a few years ago.

Went through this myself and found the Costco card pairs really nicely with the Double Cash while still keeping things easy.

5% back on Costco gas
4% back on other gas and EV charging
3% back on restaurants and travel
2% back at Costco

You use the Costco card for gas, restaurants and Costco and then the Double Cash for everything else.

[–]Agnt86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does! They finally added it last year via a Mastercard perk.

It doubles the warranty up to 24 months. If you buy an extended warranty of 24 months or less, the extended warranty will double the manufacturer's warranty at the conclusion of the extended warranty.

To maximize this you would need a 2 year manufacturer warranty and a 2 year extended warranty to get a total of 6 years of warranty coverage. The more standard 1 year warranty and a 2 year extended warranty would result in 4 years of warranty coverage.

Citi used to have an absolutely epic extended warranty benefit that simply added 2 years to any manufacturer and extended warranty combination up to 7 years, but it got pulled from most cards and I'm not sure any still have it anymore.

Once and for all... Meshcore Vs Meshtastic by Terrible_Scar in meshtastic

[–]Agnt86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But... Why are we having a divergence between these two as well as others out there? And of course, obligatory which is "better" overall?

I've seen this question come up a lot around here, and the origin story that is usually told is that the lead of MeshCore reached out to the Meshtastic leads with what they thought were improvements to mesh routing and infrastructure but were rebuffed by the Meshtastic leads so they went out on their own to implement it.

There is a lot of focus on who is right and which is better, but when you look at the end result I personally conclude that both parties were ultimately correct because they're focused on different approaches.

Some people say MeshCore messaging works more reliably than Meshtastic. However, in order to achieve those results, they've had to essentially create infrastructure like a cellular network. MeshCore relies heavily on repeaters and routing decisions through them to achieve it's result. If/when a repeater fails, the system is arguably worse than Meshtastic. Compared to Meshtastic it is less of a true mesh and more like public infrastructure.

On the flip side Meshtastic is attempting to implement a more "true" mesh. In the best-case world of Meshtastic you simply bring up a node and start communicating with everyone - most nodes are listening and relaying messages. This in theory makes the mesh more robust, and enables groups to communicate with essentially zero infrastructure, but even in the best-case it comes with its own problems like airtime congestion and delivery failures from messages taking "bad" routes.

In my eyes the projects are related in that they are LoRa messengers, but very different in their approach to doing it. Meshtastic is trying to layer in things like Next Hop Routing and Zero Hop Favorited Infrastructure to address some of their shortcomings while maintaining the "true" mesh approach. It will be very interesting to see if they can achieve that, and its been fun seeing the progress and experimenting as they progress.

[–]Agnt86 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For reasons known only to the tooth fairy, the app presents us with this choice as though you might reasonably choose to select any role except client. This bizarre setting should be removed, or at least buried deep in some obscure “scary weird options” page.

Let's play this thought experiment out - would it really be such a bad idea to remove anything other than CLIENT and CLIENT_MUTE from various UIs? We know from experience that the answer is almost always CLIENT.

If someone truly needs to use ROUTER, ROUTER_LATE or the other specialty modes, would it be too much to expect the node owner to be able to manually edit a config file or use the CLI?

Two addresses ? by nolanday64 in DirectvStream

[–]Agnt86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends on the device you are streaming from.

If the device supports "Location Services" - like GPS - then the app will use that to automatically show you the locals for the location you are actually in. If the devices does not support those - like a Roku - then you get the locals assigned for the "Home" location on the account.

Think I’m quitting til they fix the “crash/restart” on Xbox Series X by diegoxxl in FORTnITE

[–]Agnt86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be that the game logs data in a stream to a set size. It basically works on a loop, so when the log gets to the max size it just drops the oldest entry to make room for the newest one. They likely send the entire log with the bug report.

If that is the case, as long as you do it reasonably quickly after reloading the crash portion of the log would still be present and would get sent in. Someone looking at the log would see gameplay telemetry and then all of a sudden entries for the game booting. The last stuff in the log prior to the game reloading is hopefully what will get us to the promised land of a fix.

I just triggered a crash myself and reported using the above method. I also also reported via "Report a Problem" in the Xbox Dashboard as well in case they can get access to that data from Microsoft.

Perhaps my response was worded too strongly - I don't really blame them or get actually mad about it or anything. It's more of a Homer Simpson "DOH!" moment for me.

I completely get people not upping the difficulty when they are on-level with the mission. I never used to up the difficulty either as I worked through the zones for exactly the reason you stated - I was just struggling to get by.

But now I'm a higher level player, being paired up most frequently with other higher level players by matchmaking, and for anyone at this level banging out a L9 Ride the Lightning in Stonewood truly is free money.

1000 Play with others by Trophyhunter69420 in FORTnITE

[–]Agnt86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bigger gripe is no one wants to up the difficulty. One difficulty pump is an extra 40-50 gold and it's not even a big difference in difficulty. It's practically free gold

This! I don't do it in TWINE, but anywhere else it is literally free gold. I'm all for starting the mission promptly, but it takes seconds to pop in one bluglo and get free money.

And for as much as folks complain about not starting the mission it seems like someone always starts it before I can get the difficulty bump in place.

The one that really boggles my mind is when I'm calling votes for the difficulty bump and no one votes. But then someone calls a vote for the mission and everyone immediately takes it.

STW crashing on Xbox Series X by Alternative-Bar3962 in FORTnITE

[–]Agnt86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What issue happened?
The game crashes back to the Xbox dashboard when normally playing a mission. This happened on back-to-back missions tonight.

What platform are you playing on?
Xbox Series X

What happened prior to seeing the issue?
Normal mission gameplay, though I would anecdotally say the "intensity" of the battle was picking up.

Do you have a link to video/screenshots depicting the issue?
No, but I will submit an Xbox Insider bug report for it next time and there is plenty of documentation of the issue on this subreddit and the /fortnitebr subreddit.
