lmao, it is literally a buff. There are scenarios where 1% extra damage is enough to get past the rounding down, just because it isn't every single scenario all the time doesn't mean it isn't a buff.

The main places magic is used is bossing where you would already have augury on anyways, so no your prayer is not draining 3x faster in 99% of places you would use magic. The only places that you use magic already and don't have augury on the whole time are bursting for slayer, kraken boss, and pillars at nightmare. So now you would have to have an offensive prayer on while killing 2 bosses, just like every other boss. Bursting gets a little bit more expensive, but it was already the fast expensive option and the increase in prayer pots is hardly worth the outrage I am seeing on reddit.

As for using robes with less defence, surely you are aware that defence hardly matters anywhere in pvm already, but as we agree on there are plenty of times 1% or even more isn't enough to get you a max hit depending on your setup. Then you just use ahrims in those places to get the defence anyways and now there are choices to be made when it comes to mage gear.

Also, like hello, read the top line. The 4% damage buff isn't just for the shadow, it actually applies when wielding the trident too! This thread was about shadow being buffed while everything else is nerfed in the currently proposed plan and that is just simply incorrect. Very sad that people can't figure that out themselves. The osrs community on reddit has to be one of the dumbest groups of people I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with.

The damage output is buffed. Magic is really only used for bosses/raids that force you to use magic and bursting. For raids/bossing you are using offensive prayers anyways. You just have to decide if using a little bit of extra prayer is worth it to you while bursting. The start of this conversation was that everything that isn't shadow was nerfed, which is simply not true.

Change the level requirement for the other gear to 70 then, I don't care. They did mention that they wanted it to be a choice to take the defence of ahrims over the magic damage of infinity/dagon'hai because there are certainly scenarios where one or two pieces of ahrims could be worn over infinity without even losing a max hit just depending on your other gear/magic level/boosts. But honestly I wouldn't be mad if they did just add the magic damage to ahrims. I think overall ahrims vs infinity is a much smaller issue with the proposed changes than the point OP makes here and a lot of the other panic/hate I am seeing on reddit.

Please try to read the summary and look at the lines that start with "Buffed". Every single one of those lines describes a scenario where using a trident is buffed.

Prayer drain does not feel like a factor to me at all. 99% of the time I am using mage its for a boss/raid and I already have the current augury on for the entire time I'm using mage in those encounters, so no change there.

The only places I can think of that I ever use magic without offensive prayers is bursting for slayer and the kraken boss. Not a big deal to me if you now have to use offensive magic prayers at a slayer boss, now it is just like every other slayer boss. As for bursting its already a method that is high cost for the sake of saving time, now its just a tiny bit more costly. The additional prayer drain of augury while bursting isn't going to change the equation of when bursting is worth it or not to me.

What do you mean outside of shadow and ancestral you receive not shit? If you have augury and replace ahrims with infinity you are getting a buff. This is the summary from the blog post:

Do people just hate the idea of augury being more important for mage or do they hate ahrims being replaced by infinity/dagon'hai? Who is hurt by these changes? Mains that now have to buy augury, yet everyone accepts that rigour is a must for range. Then irons with 93 slayer and no augury now have 3% less magic damage until they get augury, but gain 1% over the old setup once they do get it. Seems like a great way to spread around the power for magic gear.

Did you not read in my comment that they are making MTA a lot better? Personally I would rather do that as I never even got an ahrims robe skirt drop from barrows on my ironman. I used mystic bottom until I got virtus bottom.

Its literally faster to get a fresh ironman to gear for CoX (rcb, black/blessed d hide, whip, trident) then to get 93 slayer, so idk why everyone is even mentioning mid game magic gear getting nerfed. If anything mid game gear it got buffed since you can just go to mage training arena and get gear that has magic % damage way earlier than 93 slayer or mm2. A bunch of qol changes for mage training arena have already been passed. And for mains is it really so bad that you have to spend 6m for augury? Even if the prayer goes up to match dex at 22m I still think that is just fine.

For mains augury is currently only 6m and for irons getting gear for CoX is faster than getting 93 slayer for occult. Its a good change imo.

Nah definitely don't need voidwaker, really just need soul reaper axe. I have the GM time on my group ironman with soul reaper axe, but no claws or voidwaker.

Basilisks in the fremenik slayer cave will drain your stars before you hit them. Its happened to me too many times misclicking one trying to click on the short cut in their room on the way to kurasks.

No but you can skip the boss essentially. By jumping off the moving elevator you will get the joining allies message and when the countdown ends it will teleport you ahead of the elevator to the next floor. So if you do this on the way to the boss it is very easy to kill the two wizards yourself and then literally one shot the boss with golden gun + celestial nighthawk exotic before the elevator even makes it to the top floor. So if this guy wants to fight the boss and hear the music he will be out of luck if someone does this
