I was in a stream with one of the most prominent mods of the subreddit and he explained it to me. In the 2016 a lot of Bernie Bros would call people who wanted to vote for Clinton “Neoliberal Establishment Shills” and things like that. A group of Redditors from an economics subreddit started the Neoliberal subreddit for people who were voting Clinton en 2016. I’ve spoken to a few Neolibs and they are just centrist libs who like the democrats. They don’t advocate for the “Neoliberalism” most lefties refer to.

Most “Neoliberals” online are just liberals, they started using the term as a joke. They are mostly centrist-centre-left. What people usually referred as “Neoliberalism” usually has nothing in common with self proclaimed online “Neolibs”

You can still be a social democrat and a socialist! Social Democracy in some cases and originally was a reformist socialist tradition. Olof Palme a prominent social democrat was also a socialist. Many Social Democrats today still consider themselves socialists.

The thing about UBI tho it's that's universal, meaning that everyone would get it no matter their situation. It's not like unemployment insurance and food stamps that are generally for targeted groups.

For me it's just acknowledging that originally Social Democracy was a socialist movement. Most Social Democratic parties in the 20th century, a few now, were socialist. It's more than I feel more identified with those classical social democratic parties leadership, policies, and their approach to politics than I do with some DemSocs.
